Just a heads up on what some of our lawmakers are trying to do...if it p***es it could be really expensive for us and other hot rodders especially if other states do it as well!!!!!! we need to stop this NOW!!!!!

There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to p***
in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our
vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so
that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection.

The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the
    vehicle license tabs upon renewal.

The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engine:

    Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
    Up to 1.9 $0
    2.0 - 2.9 $70
    3.0 - 3.9 $225
    4.0 - 4.9 $275
    5.0 - 5.9 $325
    6.0 - 7.9 $400
    8.0 or over $600

For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the
engine size in liters to the dollar amount. Add the amounts for each
vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying
$500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license
fees. If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more.

The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline,
electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay
more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage
to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well.

Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill.

I have contacted all of our representatives, and I would encourage
everyone reading this to do the same.

Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text:

    http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summ...6900&year=2007

Here's the link for contacting your representatives:

    http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx

If we don't threaten m*** rebellion over this, they'll p*** this bill
and we'll be paying huge fees every year on top of their increase in the
gas tax. They have to know that we won't stand for any more taxes or
    increase in licensing fees.

I've told my representatives that I will actively work to see that any
lawmaker that supports this bill is replaced at election time.

Please contact your legislators, then copy the text of this email, and
forward it to as many people as possible that you know in Washington
State, and encourage them to contact their representatives and strongly
voice their objection to this bill.

  2. Whew!
Glad all my cars have engines measured with cubic inches! ;)

The law should be the other way...the bigger the engine the less tax. Help out us dumb***es with big blocks and hot rods.

    Just my opinion,

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. This **** has been pretty much the main subject around these parts for the past month. This state already has the highest gas tax in the country, and they just keep trying to pick-pocket us anyway they can. C.I.D tax, give me a break!

I tagged a car I purchased the other day and they asked me what size tires and wheels it had on it.

Evidently there is a tax for the oversized wheels and tires you see on everyones trucks and SUVs, Oh and Cadillacs!lol She showed me the chart, 20" were so much, 22" higher etc.

I thought she was kidding me! Fortunately I have good old 16"ers.

I bet that is because the government thinks that if you have money to buy some 20's for your car then you must have enough to give some to them also.

I am with you guys lets start a HAMBer revolution.

I'm afraid we're going to see a lot more of this kind of ****.

The thing that has worried me for quite some time now is that the big three are growing increasingly desperate for market share due to the Japanese pulling the rug out from under them. As this happens I believe that they will eventually realize that there are a lot of guys out there like us that, for all intents and purposes don't really need them (I'm 39 and I have NEVER purchased a new Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler), and that they can no longer afford for us to have a choice.

And since I believe that they essentially would like to force us to buy a new vehicle every 5 years they are going to start lobbying congress to p*** more and more laws making in more and more difficult and expensive to drive any vehicle older than 5 yrs old. I think that some of the "limited use" items appearing in recent car hobby legislation are just the tip of the iceberg.

And once they start lobbying congress and stuffing pockets, forget about any kind of influence we may have as voters and taxpayers. Our elected officials will bend us right over and **** us out of our hobby like a cheap *****.

I love my country, and completely distrust my government.

Europe has had a "size" tax for a long time ,

Itally had a "cc" tax and even companies like Ferrari made models with smaller motors to sell in Italy ,

Also there was a weight tax too.....

But right now the "Greens" have got every ones attention and are organized so they can try and push thru laws to slow your "carbon footprint " (nice sounding ******** phrase)

This is not going to stop unfortunately.....

"This is not going to stop unfortunately....." I agree.

The reason these laws get p***ed is because they're an easy sell to the general public, especially with the new found interest in the environment and give the government more money that they desperately need to blow on increasing union wages and benefits for their government employees.

By heavily taxing larger vehicles and giving tax credits to hybrids and low emission vehicles they are trying to force us to be more responsible. Like it or not, this mentality is here to stay.

You need to understand the legislative mind and its thought process. All government agencies are always looking to replace or increase revenue. Wether due to lost sales tax or increasing costs , similar to any business en***y. This tax proposal has all the hallmarks of a piece of legislation that will eventually get forced through , like it or not. I dont mean to be defeatist but you can see the train coming down the track. We just had one of the enviromental do gooders proposing legislation to ban the use of fireplaces and woodburning stoves in Illinois , as they now believe that this is now the largest source of particulate air pollution. Give me a break!
As far as the CIT. You will probably need to work with your legislators and or SEMA to defeat or at least put in a exemption clause into this legislation.
