Kay , i admit, it sounds morbid.......but Ive been dealing with mental[panic disorder and the like [not depression!]/and alot of health issues for yrs, and i started thinkin....." are all my rides and koo stuff going to be divided up right"?or go to who i would like???? well, hell no!!! but im only 37~! matters not! we all still have a lot of things in our lifes that could make us go away to quickly..drunk drivers, cancer, just to name a couple....so......
i think its time for me to make things right!

i love my wife, thats a given, but she is not the person for the job for delegating my things out the way i would like!!!
she loves the hobby, and the folks she has got to know in this wonderful world, but , it isnt her job, to unload my stuff!!!!

so, in a long and winded way, I'm just saying, if you have a loved one that you know has no clue what your stuff is worth, you would be wise to make it known........we will all not live forever, and unfortunately, some less then others......so , we should make it as easy on our family as possible!
yeah, sounds bad, but dammit, our fams love us, and i don't want them to have to wonder if they made the right choice selling this or that~!
    sorry for the Babel!!!

I know what you mean bro...that's why I keep my parts tagged with what they are and a list of who they go to...anytime I sell something it gets crossed off the list...I thought I was the only one nuts enough to do that...

Sounds like a very caring and wise thing to do. It could save you family a lot of grief. There are some who would approch the family saying the departed wanted me to have the car, bike, or what ever, and the family is in a difficult situation. I think you are bringing up a very good point.

In addition last week I went to the cinima, not something I have done in the past 2 years, but a very good friend suggested I see "Bucket List". It really got me thinking, and today I talked to another friend and he said he is on a cross country trip with his wife, he is working on his "Bucket List".

This makes total good sence, but it sure is going to ruin it for the guy hoping to get a set of Ardun heads for $150 at an estate sale. Poor *******.

The thing that prompted me to do it was a friend's dad died, and his friends took whatever they wanted (usually at night or when nobody was around)...what was left got sold off by my friend's dumb*** husband who had no clue what anything was worth and lied to her about how much he sold stuff for...

  7. This holds true for everything else besides car stuff, guys....make a will...be specific...keep it updated...make sure that you specify where/who your kids should go if both you and your spouse go at the same time. Some of this may not be addressed in a will.

My wife & I have wills that are VERY specific about our possessions and our children's futures (extended family issues made us be very careful about this  ), with supporting do***entation, so that in the event that certain people tried to fight the will legally, they would have a difficult time of it.

In addition, we have a 12-page letter ("In the event of") that gives details about life insurance, funeral details, bank details, & so forth...but also do***ents our children's medical details, school information, activities, and anything else that is relevant to our lives. This makes things MUCH easier for a presiding judge and our will's executor to cope, and helps ensure that our wishes are followed.

The letter is updated once per year or as needed, and sealed, notarized copies are located with the will, the executor, and one other family member, and retrieved/exchanged whenever they are updated.

Lots of work?? Sure...but it's not as if I can do it AFTER I die. :D Maybe all these details will help someone else out there.

I lost my best friend who was only 24 at the end of Jan. We built two cars together, both mustangs. I have no clue what the plans are for his car as of yet, I know what we used to say to each other but I cant request his car now. I made my living will the other day....

I had always planned on taking it with me,but now I dunno....Years ago,my son asked when he was gonna get my 442 ragtop,I told him'when I'm done with it',he asked 'when is that?' When I saidwhen I'm dead,he replied 'Oh boy,I can hardly wait!' I sleep with one eye open when that kid stays over! ---bil

Breeder' when I came down with cancer took my two daughters and went out to the barn. I told them that I plan to hang around along time and you know, life stuff. Them we went to each car, each engine, each wheel, etc and decided that if something happened to me that the cars would be finished by two close friends, what it would cost and to keep the stuff for themselves.(they dig my cars). We were out there for hours, actually enjoyed ourselves. got them straightened out The halibrands on the 40 cheve p up, chrome reverse on the model A, Ansens on the chevell.( no perpetual spinning 20 inchers with rubber band tires) They also know what the stuff is worth!!!!! and not to tell their mom!!!!!
Also did the will thing like homespun91. Piece of mind is great.

In my line of work,I'm a tattooist, strange is a daily accourance.I for one think you should cover your bases, let it be known what your final wishes are.A lady comes in the shop looking to get a Sponge Bob Square Pants with a fishing pole tattoo to memorialize her Dad.That in itself is not strange. The clincher was she brought her father in with her.She keeps her Dads ashes in a Sponge Bob Square Pants cookie jar!

Todd, we've know about your mental issues for a looooong time ;-)

I was actually thinking about this on the way to work today. My wife and I have already discussed this. If I go before her, she's going to let my brother 'Lil John take the garage over. He'll know what to do with all my ****. He's to keep what he wants and sell the rest, all proceeds going to my wife. I think that's fair.

'Course, this is now motivation for John to knock me off so he can have my coupe...

When I ***ume room temperature, I told my Wife and Son's that each of my sons could pick out one of the project cars with all the parts for it ( or a completed car),.. split up the tools they want,.... and call the old car auctioneer to dispose of the rest with all proceeds going to my wife,.... So keep a eye on the obituaries,..... some good deals could be right around the corner ( ya' never know)

  23. Christ, when I drop dead (and I will most likely go before my wife) she will have one ****ing hell of a mess to clean up! Rusty cars and parts everywhere!

Made a will a few years ago. A copy is in a safety deposit box.**
Once a year I take it out and review it; with the wife.

A couple of years ago, I sat the wife down at my computer in the shop, and using Excel - Microsoft's - we went through all my tools and car parts one at a time, listing each of them; their value - current - and made tags which were tied to the parts. (this has proven helpful when it comes time to eliminate a few things and take them to swap meets)

We laid the tools out in groups and I took pictures and made notes on the pictures of the tool values. If new tools are added - or old eliminated - lists are adjusted.

It was a BIG job - took about a month - BUT ... now she ** has a detailed listing of all my stuff.

** A close friend is an auctioneer, who also has a copy of my will and the detailed listing of parts and tools. If I "kick the bucket"; he has instructions as what to sell. (plus a fair value)
He is very familiar with my collection.

In addition to him having copies; my sister has a set as well.

Overkill? I don't think so. My dad died suddenly and left behind one of the most twisted estates that ever had to be settled. It took almost five years, and the lawyers made a "killing."

I know what ya' mean... In 2006 an entire family that was in a King Cab Ford 4wd was wiped-out when a Semi crossed the interstate and hit them head-on... The Mom built bikes for Wicked Women Choppers here locally. They were returning from a Birthday party for one of the daughters...

Seeing this wreckage shook me up, and made me think exactly the same thing... My wife would have no idea what to do with my acres of ****, when I finally cash out. It got me off my ****, and I revised my will, got my organ donor card, and my wife and I actually started discussing what we wanted for our funerals and such... Nobody wants to think about this stuff...but, it isn't fair to saddle loved-ones with the burden of trying to decide these things when the time comes. It's better to plan, and talk about it now.
