    the shame of it all.
nah not really, keep cuttin and welding, you'll be the envy of the class when you finish.

  4. Are you gonna have enogh room for the dist. and run an engine fan. I cut one like on the 5w and had to beat some room for a small TPI dist. Lost the fan room. A least the pump was too low for the rad. Bet some vette guys are mad about the FI unit.

Cut a 32 firewall to fit a motor, or chop it's top to get the "look"..Either one is still cutting a 32, and it really dosn't matter if done right...
The 32 in my avitar is unchopped.....but will be loosing 4" when i build it..lot's of fella's said "omigod, don't chop it up!!"
There's ALWAYS gonna be someone who's asshole will pucker when they see it gennie tin get "modified"..oh well.....
It all depend's on how it's done..your firewall dosn't look bad to me....but what do i know.:)
    And the injection unit, NICE!

I would have just trimmed about an inch from the pass side firewall where it sticks out. I would also use a Zip's pump riser so the fan is higher where there is more room. All fits then and you keep your floorboard and foot room. The radiator tilts forward so the higher the fan the more room you have. Your floor fab is going to be a bitch. I would also loose that vet motor mount that is not suitable. A nice Hurst style willwork better. I ran an injector on my 3W for 21 years. It was a #380 injector.

I've seen plenty of SBC in 32's without cutting the firewall!

  17. Me and a friend who has been a Hot Rodder since the '50's just finished chopping a '30 Model A Sedan 6" in front, 5" at the door post and 4" in back and it was a barn find from South Dakota. It was all there, very minimal rust and definately restorable. But instead we chopped it and it looks tough with a chop rake. And I don't lose abit of sleep.
I say it's yours. Enjoy it however you want. We are Hot Rodders, we are fabricators, we are customizers, we are visionaries. But above all we are, Hot Rodders. We can't leave shit alone.

As far as it being rare or destroying HISTORY ... I say cut it if you want. But from a financial standpoint ... you messed up.
Nice uncut firewalls bring seven hundred dollars and more as a general rule on eBay ... cut ones bring considerably less.
I would have bought one already cut some or not " CHERRY " and then made it into one modified to suit me.

That's what I always try to do. :)

Here's mine. Like Andy said I used a Zipp type water pump and was able to get it all in without cutting the firewall. I may have to raise the motor some to get clearance between the tie rod and harmonic balancer and this will necessitate cutting the firewall a small amount to clear the bellhousing. I made the motor mount similiar to a Hurst but bent it forward to clear the stock fuel pump. I plan to run the Rochester, ran it for years on my 34 Chevy sedan.

Does it really matter what it would sell for if you are using it on your own car?

Why sell a nice part that you need for your car and replace it with a shittier one....in the interest of saving (literally) a few dollars? Is it so you can tell your buddies, "Oh, I had a really nice firewall but I couldn't bring myself to cut it. So I got this junk-ass firewall and spent a week straightening it so I didn't have to cut the nice one."

I could understand if you had two firewalls to choose from, then you'd likely want to use the worst of the two if you needed to cut it up, and maybe sell the good uncut one to make a few bucks. But if you only have one and it happens to be a good one, then why not cut it to make it work for your application?

Cutting shit up that's desireable to restorer-types is one of the cornerstones of hot rodding.

  22. When the hood goes up, I'm betting no one will see anything past that kick ass fuel unit.

The cut looks like clean work.

you could always pick up a brookville firewall and cut it also. its not like they arent out there to be had,but i do agree from the financial perspective that was an expensive cut. (i bet it felt good too;))

    ? ?

A few dollars? Cut up around the bottom Deuce firewalls bring 3 to 4 hundred dollars ... ones as nice as the one he cut bring 7 to 8 hundred and more, and so 4 to 5 hundred dollars will buy a lot of parts and stuff ...

I have cut original firewalls on BOTH my 32 Fords ... :)
But I did not throw away 5 hundred dollars cutting up a CHERRY one.

I went to the " stash " and used a already previously cut up 2 or 3 hundred dollar one

    :D :)
