Very nice, but should have left a little trim on it so it didn't so much resemble a Type III "Cal Look" Volkswagen Squareback from the '80s. That's all I can see despite the thousands of hours of work. Mars Red (red-orange) and BBS looking wheels look 25 years outdated. I do really like the grille treatment.

All you guys that keep saying its not your IDEA OF COOL...need to remember these awards are given to cutting edge high tech cars, not traditional cars!!! every year after the Detroit Autorama and the Grand National Roadster Show everyone bitches about the winner. These awards are not about the cars and trucks we are into plain and simple....Its like complaining about being rejected from a gay dating service because your not gay!!!! get over it!!!! next year will be exactly the same just like the last 15 years..I like this car for what it is a very well built car with lots of engineering!!!!

Yeah, big Borrani's would have been bitchin even if they are sorta early style.
Remember Cliff Hansen's Brizio Ferrari/Deuce '32 with the original alloy wires?

Than what the f*ck is it doing on this board. I thought the HAMB was about traditional hot rods. Not something that looks like it was designed by Doc Johnson.

I thought is was a pretty cool concept, but was surprised to see it win. Usually there is a clear cut winner, that is obvious to anyone, but this year was a tough call.

Just proof that us crazy hillbillies out here in the NW might know whats what with customs;)

  12. Dont be so critical and narrow minded. Every car on here have some cool things done with some great engineering Thats what this car has and is way out of most anybodys league here but most all of us can appreciate it. I am glad someone posted it as its very different. I also like the posts about different approaches to old cars like Eddie's model A. Its not traditional but it sure has some cool fabrication that people can borrow ideas from.
Autorama also doesnt have very many traditional cars but still have cars worth posting. Same as the Roadster show etc etc.

Sorry, didn't mean to be so harsh. I can appreciate the machining, design work, etc. that goes into something like this, but to me, it just doesn't work. But it's his money, and if it makes him happy, that's what's important. Guy down the road from me has a $1 million plus street rod and last I saw it was on ebay for $285k with no bids.

  15. Not really H.A.M.B. related but, I think it's pretty cool to see two cars from the Northwest in the Great 8. Congratulations to the team at Divers Street Rods, it's great to see a prestigious award like the Ridler go to a shop from Washington. I’d also like to congratulate to J.F. and his ’55 Chrysler on making the Great 8. I know him personally and he sacrificed everything (family, work, and a ton of money) to finish the build on time.

It's entirely reasonable to wrap a Farina design body, in this case a Nash/Rambler wagon, around a Ferrari drive train since that's what errari did in the first place.
For once the whole package makes some sense.

"It still looks like a Rambler. Just goes to show when people have more money then they know what to do with it."

thats kinda funny, how many of us if givena pot load of a cash wouldnt put a giant motor in whatever your driving? a fucking Ferrari powered rambler? what a sleeper haha.

as far as it still looking like a rambler, every one always talks about a custom just looking like what the factory should have done. nothing crazy just for the sake of being wild. alot of the cars up for the award this year had body lines that to me just looked like they were 'daring to be different' . i thought this car was the obvious pic.

and come on, who wouldnt love to fly around in a waaaaaaaaay over powered rambler? haha

There are a lot of different aspects considered when choosing the Ridler winner, This car was truly awesome, I got a really close look at it and was able to talk with the builder while the judges were narrowing down the "Great 8",.. what appears to be luggage is actually access panels to the electronics, radiator, and several other components (which by the way all looks like jewelry),.... fit & finish, under body panels, engineering, interior, overall concept, a tremendous amount of subtle modifications,.... the list goes on.

Like it or not, this car is a masterpiece and earned the Ridler Award,
as far as some of the cost quotes,... I believe the Ross Meyer "First Love" 36 last year tipped the scales at 1.2 Mil.,..... and I didn't hear exactly where the Nash came in at but I believe it was a little less.

I have pictures of all the "Great 8" cars (There were 27 contenders for the Ridler this year),..... I am still whipped from the show, but if anybody wants, I would be glad to post them later this evening , if nobody beats me to it.

Oh yeah,......... one more thing, The Basement was once again a spectacular hit,..and IMHO getting better all the time,... great job Rudy !

I would really like to see the build sheet, how can a car really cost 1.5 MILLION dollars to build? $15,000 builds a basic rod, 150,000 dollars would build an awesome car. 1.5 million, 10 times more money? I could see maybe 400K.

Your right Harms Way, Troy got $1.2 to build that Ford.I think its interesting that two station wagons made the final eight. Who would have thought a wagon, much less a Rambler could win the Holy Grail!Personally, I thought Harry Willetts 32 roadster and the DynaMat 32 roadster made stong style statements.Wait til the Golden submarine gets done....

  22. Shouldn't that thing's name be "Ferrambler"?

Things like that are the reason I don't go to indoor car shows.

  23. What people lose sight of is that there is still someone standing at a machine making a part, or bent over a vise hand filing a bracket, or even sitting in front of a computer programming a CNC machine to make those cars.

They might cost a million bucks to make, but time is money, and there is a LOT of time put into some of those cars. Admittedly it's not always time well spent, but it's not some robot that screws those cars together.

It's car guys... like you and me.

Four or five people full time over a year is gonna be $500k for labor and overhead. Add parts and materials costs and it's not hard to get to seven figures. When you start making custom suspension pieces and doing fab work on just about every part of the car, it adds up fast.

You get five guys working on a car or at the lathe at $95.00 per hour shop rate and you're looking at $3,800 a day or $19,000 a week. That's almost a million in a year and you haven't even ordered parts, paint, interior or material.

  29. Then you would miss an incredible car that had some of the most incredible fabrication I have ever seen. Carefully scrutinizing a car like this gives you some clue on how to build a car right.

Actually three wagons made it to the Great 8; the Ridler winner, a '55 Chrysler and a '56 Chevy. I was pretty surprised (and stoked!) to see that as well!
