Here is the new VENTURA sign that will now forever be a landmark, visible from the 101 fwy at California St. I dig it!
Here are a couple more recent ones.... And our downtown movie theater is a fairly recent addition, sure is purdy!......
Here's a shot of my 40 in front of a neat old hotel in Colonial Beach, Va. The sign is over exposed though, but it is neon....
Ryan, That Courtsey Chevrolet sign brought back some great memories. I was stationed in Chandler AZ from 1963-64. A buddy of mine traded in his '53 Chevy on a '62 Corvair at Courtsey Chevrolet. In December 1964 we drove that Corvair all the way to Columbus OH in 36 hours. We were being reassigned to Craig AFB in AL and took a Christmas leave on the way. That was before the real highways that are there today. Much of the trip was on RT 66 at 90 MPH. Pedal mashed on the floor. We only stopped for gas and a burger when necessary. What a trip. Thanks for the reminder.
The Hong Kong Inn, I've eaten there before. It's classic chinese restruant decor inside, the foods good too. I dig the detail on the Firestone building in Ventura the tires, emblems and ocean waves it's too cool.
my and my fathers resturant with my 50 and my bro's 49 shoeboxes, the sign was put up in 1955 by my grandpa, and I just had 12 neon tubes fixed this fall, it got wrecked in a wind storm about 3 years ago.
Here is an early Mobilgas sign made from plywood. I was told by a knowledgeable collector that this sign was used primarily on the West Coast, and only from 1933 to 1934. It is double sided... this side was face down to a wall so it was protected from U.V. The other side is badly faded.
Someone had a post for show me your wide whites, but I fiqured it fit in better here. Signs on both sides and yes, the tire is new, circa 1950 something.
Might not be entirely HAMB friendly, but I got a few more 60's dealership showroom posters and an original silk screened paper banner from a Strickler/Jenkins Hi-Performance clinic framed and hung up this weekend...
Yaaaaay! Scored me a good one today. Traded some parts and labor for this N.O.S. OPEN arrow sign. It was given to my friend by a friend of the family who bought it brand new in the 60's to put on his auto parts store in Bakersfield. Well they never got around to hanging it up. It is in as new condition and works perfect. It goes crazy when you plug it in, all those bulbs blinkin and flashin!! It's 6 1/2 feet tall and double sided. Now I have to find a good place to hang it where it won't keep the neighbors up at night.
