I was at work and I got a whiff of a familiar smell.....old oil or grease. I may be crazy I dont know, and maybe its the memories of the garage, but I actually prefer the smell of old oil over perfume. Anyone out there agree with me or maybe I'm alittle off? Talk to me guys...and girls too, I know that may be pushing it but I know in my heart there are girls reading this stuff too. Dusty out.

  8. On a similar note I was walking my youngest around on a halloween night when we came to a house with a wooden screen door. When he said thanks and let the screen door shut the noise instantly transported me back in time to my grandmothers house. The sound of the slamming wooden screen door and the spring loaded latch was so familiar it was scary! I had to go up to the door myself and let it swing closed again.....

I absolutely love the smell of cutting oil.

Whenever my wife gets new perfume (I haven't bought her any in years) I have a secret plan. I set the alarm clock for 3:00 am, when I know she'll be sound asleep. I then empty out the perfume into the sink, and refill the empty perfume bottle with cutting oil.

I guess that she's lucky that I don't have the same love for the smell of layout dye.

I have the same memories of my grandma's house too. My house I live in now was built in the thirties and still has the original multipane storm door to the front porch with the same spring loaded hinge, when I feel nostalgic I just go out my front door.

I'm with striper when it comes to the smell of old car interiors. I absolutely love that "old car" smell. Much better than the "new car" smell. That and gasoline get me going.

I miss the smell of Fire Chief from our boat back in the '70s
My grandma used to take us around St.Louis in her 73 Duster, looking for freshly paved asphault on hot summer days - we both LOVED that smell!

Seems like even asphault smells different now too, I know unleaded gas don't smell "right"

According to scientific research the sense of smell is the most powerful trigger for recalling deep-seated memories.
My office is on a working waterfront and the briny smell of fresh seafood instantly takes me back to the fishmonger down the street from my grandmother's apartment in the bronx 45 years ago.

  22. Smells are among the most powerful memory triggers. I love the smell of old Ford grease (sorry, I'm a Ford guy) and the way gas USED to smell, I don't what they sell now-a-days....but it doesn't smell like gas anymore.

While there are a lot of smells related to cars that I like, I'll take perfume. Of course, it depends on the scent and whos wearing it :D.

When i was at Autorama in Cobo I was with afriend whos not a real carguy. AS we went down to the lower level I turned to him and said "do you smell that?" i could smell the cars down there as oppsed to the mainfloor where there was no car smell. It smelles like grease and oil. I guess it depends on where you are which smell you'd like best. I certainly don't want to smell grease and oil in the bedroom...:D

The crankcase vapor fumes from an old car with a road draft tube really take me back. I remember that smell from my first Hemi.
