hey guys! im trying to figure out my windshield situation.. so my car is a 51 chevy 2 dr sedan, but i got a new roof for it and it's from a coupe. with the A pillars lined up and welded, is the shape of my windshield totally weird now that a cut down stock gl*** wouldn't even fit (because top and bottom are from 2 different models) or should i get a gl*** made custom???? and where in L.A. can i find a gl*** guy???? sorry for the long *** dragged out question!!!

    thanx!

they're different, but isn't the difference mostly in height? the cowl line and width should be the same, so cut coupe gl*** may work.

raunchero, your window may be an odd looking shape just because you hammered it so much. you should really get gl*** cut before you proceed much further, it's best to fit the metal to the gl*** you have, it's easier to make metal fit than gl***.

thanx man!! it's fun to try to create something decent looking out of a total turd.... so basically i had 2 inches of post left on the car once i got rid of the old roof and the posts on the new roof are around 8 inches . i just started cutting until i was stoked on the look of the window. my window in the middle is 11 inches, so i dont know exactly how much was cut off.

oh i wanna clear out that the window opening doesnt look odd i didnt mean it that way, what i mean is i have top and bottom from two different cars makin it impossible to cut down a stock gl*** maybe??

  11. doesn't appear to have any problems. coupe, sedan, hardtop and wagon are all the same shape. take a stock windshield tape a sheet of plastic over it and cover it with fibregl*** or even seen it done with bondo, trim it down to size and check it for fit.

Wow nice car, I would image the bottom of the windshield opening is similar, but like others have said windshields (and doors) are different depending on the model.

Talk to bob and Bobs Cl***ic Auto Gl***, he's a hamber, he maybe able to help you.

  26. As Oldbeet posted with the gl*** book info, the coupe and 2dr Styline sedan use the same windshield (also shared with 49-52 Pontiac and small Olds through '51. There shouldn't be any reason for it not to fit once trimmed.

But from what I remember from installing one in a '50 Chevy, if you look at the gl*** from the side, the wraparound gets narrower at the top - if you could stand it up so it's vertical against a wall and look at it from the side, it should be somewhat V-shaped, wider at the bottom.

In your car I think the way to make gl*** fit would be to trim it off the bottom when cutting it, the same as the way the posts are trimmed. Like someone else said, make a template or two of the stock gl***, try that and see if it would fit. If you can't make it fit the opening with one cut across each side, then you're going to have to rework the opening.

Although it may be worth taking a template to the pick-a-part and see if some late model car gl*** has the right shape before giving up.

Excellent work man. It flows really nice.

Where did you get those clip things that's holding your metal together? What are they called? I've been looking for those for almost a year.
