Been hard at it lately....spending a lot of money on little stuff. I'm broke... It's getting close. This weekend, one way or another, I will fire it up. The body is coming off this afternoon. I'll run my brake and fuel lines. Finish the firewall while it's easy to get to. Put the appropriate fluids in. I've cut my to-do list in half, but theres still a handful of big ticket items left. I'm stuck at work until 1:00 today but took monday off to work on it. I'm crossing my fingers... The dash is done and the door tops are -very- roughed in. Bought the wrong size hole saw for the speedo and tach, so I'll get the right one today and get the gauges in. I doubt it if I have time to get anything other than water temp and oil pressure working though. Rear upper shock mounts done. Shot some primer on the doors to make it look a little nicer, took some pictures for insurance. Got that taken care of, and it's registered now. I'm legal finally! Thats a load off. Third brake light/plate mount/license light. Made a bracket for my plaque, it's at chrome now. The seats are bolted in. The kingpins are locked in, I have front brake drums, my steering arms are reamed (HEY....if anyone needs their arms reamed, I have a Speedway reamer now....$10 a side! Gotta make the money back somehow!!). I hope this weekend will be the turning point to make it start going downhill....I gotta make Austin!! BTW....what weight oil should I put in the rear end? 90w? Anyone?
Now you had to go and make me feel lazy. My dads 32 truck is still a pile of parts. Your modified looks well thought out. Can you tell me more and add some pics of the steering setup? s.
I like that car a lot... Lots of fun and different things to check out. Well done man.. Can't wait to see it.
80-90 gear oil should do the rear end. I may be hitting you up for your reamer, too! Great job eric! Looking forward to seeing that car crusin' Austin!
Loking good my man! I really dug some of the fine details that I saw when I saw it in person. The pics don't do it justice!
Did you do all that work in your home garage? If so, that's quite impressive, Even if you didn't, I'm still impressed. I don't know your level of experience but your modified looks stellar. Nice proportions, cl***y windshield, and nicely equipped small block. You're going to get a lot of compliments on this one.
Thanks! I did it all in the garage...the only experience doing anything like this was seeing others doing it here on the HAMB and getting a LOT of tips from the guys at work (hot rod shop). Enough years watching everyone else do it taught me well I guess. Most of the brake lines are run...found out I can't run my front wheels on my brakes without and adapter from Wheelkid (thanks HAMB!). Decided I need new rear wheel cylinders....try to track those down locally on monday. Put in another distributor. Got a battery tray and battery, will get those in tomorrow. A little wiring and I should be able to fire it off. Probably spend a lot of time doing sheetmetal stuff too.
that thing is really cool.. you'll have to take it bonniville next year.. I'm doing the same thing....we hope to get the coupe fired on Tuesday,,,Should have my Drive shaft done by then and some other little things...but it looks like I might be cruising congress with very little miles on it...... See you soon!!
I think speedway is the least exp. on the wheel cyl. About 2 days to get them. If not oreileys or the zone . Keep on getting after it .
Im wondering about the a angle your engine is set at? It looks like its going down hill in the front instead of the rear? Have you driven this yet ? I do like your idea on the exhaust .. Nice creative thinking there.. Dave
The only way to make that thing any better is to have it crossed up on a dirt road. It looks like 'bout thousand pounds of pure fun... Enjoy,Smokey
That is a sweet looking modified. I really like everything you have done with it. Good luck getting it done! BTW - I used 80 90 GL4 (not GL5) gear oil in my trans ('39 Ford) and my Banjo rear. You can still get it through NAPA - its a Sta-Lube product. Kinda pricey though. I have heard the GL4 is more like the old gear oil than the new GL5 type. Not sure exactly what the difference is though. Mike
The motor looks fine, I think its just the angle of the ch***is rail to get the front down and the staggered height of the carbs on the intake. Doc.
Actually, it is a little lower in the front than I'd like....but in that pic, the rear air cleaner has a spacer underneath it to clear the spark lug wires which made it a lot higher. I have since made the other two spacers to level them all back out.
