Funny. I saw a friend of mine do it recently. I was with him. 78 miles an hour in a 70 zone. Cop does a u-turn and comes after us lights flashing. I said "let's see you talk your way out of this!". Damned if he didn't. Told the cop, "officer, thank you for stopping me. How fast was I going? Really?
see there Paul I told you this speedometer isn't working right.
I just bought this car and I knew it seemed like I was going too fast". Cop just smiled and said keep it down and have a nice day. Probably wouldn't have worked for me.

I had a county sheriff pull me over early one morning a few months ago for not using a turn signal when I changed lanes. I admit, it was my fault not to. He also questioned me on the tools in the bed of my truck, that I used for work, supposedly because of a rash of break-ins of storage units in the area.
I was cool the whole time and patiently waited for him to go through the routine, then got my digital camera out of the glove box of my truck and snapped a photo of the front of his car. He asked what I was doing, and I replied "I was going to take this photo to traffic court with me to show the judge when I contest the ticket."
He said "A photo of what?"
I said "Your burned out headlight."

He tore up the ticket and left.

Kinda off topic, but I wouldn't reach into my car for anything when the officer doesn't know what I'm doing. Around here the next thing that would happen would be an ambulance call for gunshot wounds.

Bro has a glock between his seat and the console, we pull over bro hangs his arms out the driver window, when the cop rolls up to the window bro says hi I gotta glock right here and here's my license and off duty license, cop say have a good day and we're back to 78 in a 60..... got home pretty quick!

I got stopped for speeding (4 points), but was polite to the cop. He wrote me up for disobeying a traffic devise (2 points). I took it to court and pled 'not guilty'. The D.A. asked if I would plead guilty to a defective speedometer (no points). I agreed and the fine was $35.00 + surcharge to the State, but no points means my insurance won't be going up. It's just a game to raise money for the Governments.

I've only been pulled over once in my life. I was pulled over for speeding. You know how fast I was going? Three MPH over the speed limit. The real kicker is that it was on a street where if you're not doing atleast ten over, you're holding up traffic. To be fair though, it was a state trooper who pulled me over while I was driving a company truck without the company name and DOT number on the side. He needed a reason to pull me over so he could do an inspection (so he could give me a $300 ticket for no name/DOT # displayed). If you're not familiar with DOT inspections, state police and DOT officers can give them, but local and county can not. Which is why the local police officer I p***ed not thirty seconds earlier didn't give me a second look. I'm not mad though. He only gave me a warning for the "speeding" and the company paid the DOT ticket, as they should have as it's the company's responsibility to make sure the truck is legal.

In Texas the locals can write DOT if the officer is DOT certified. 99% of the time the officers are only doing what we pay them to do. However here we have the DWG guys. They block driveways streets and do whatever the heck they want cause they can. They even block the left turn lane to work radar. Some day I hope to see them have to take a corse in edicate on traffic stops. Right now they **** big time.

Don't know if this counts because I didn't get stopped. I didn't wait around. Many years ago I crested a little hill in a '58 Corvette indicating 120 mph and a state cop was coming the other way with his lights going. He didn't get me but he got the owner of the Corvette in a Cadillac behind me who was trying to keep up. Didn't give him a ticket either.

I figured a "Honoring Fallen Officers" special plate not only goes to a good cause, it can't hurt the prospect of getting some mercy shown:

How much does the state pay your company to put their info on the side of the company's private property.

To be fair though, it was a state trooper who pulled me over while I was driving a company truck without the company name and DOT number on the side. He needed a reason to pull me over so he could do an inspection (so he could give me a $300 ticket for no name/DOT # displayed).

Best advice for beating a ticket...

    1. once you stop put both hands @ 12:00 oclock on the steering wheel and wait for the cop to get to the window. If it's dark turn on your domelight before he gets out of his car.

    2. when asked for your "papers" ask permission to reach into the glovebox.

    3. don't say anything until he asks the usual questions and don't argue.

    4. treat the cop as if you've known him/her all your life, just as open, sincere, and friendly as can be without sounding phony.

    5. when asked about your driving record (pretty popular question lately) be honest and perhaps a bit glib about it.

What all of this does is "humanize" the situation. A cop is a person just like you. By putting your hands up on the wheel they're in plain sight, as well as the domelight at night, it shows respect for their personal sense of security and safety. The record question is one I usually handle like, "well, I'm no saint, had my share of tickets in the past, but I honestly can't remember the last time I was given one...been a long time." A calm open-minded visit is the best immediate defense. It might sound all too obvious but it really does work. I've handled the last few stops just that way and it worked every time. I most always act shocked that I was going as fast as they say, even though sometimes they're right! Try it some time. You'd be surprised how quick it changes to your favor.

I got stopped one time in my old Galaxie doing like 40 something in a 25. Cop asked if I knew how fast I was going, I told him "no." It was dark and my dash lights were out. I told him I can't see the speedo. He had me turn the lights on and he checked. He said slow down and get them fixed. I may have slowed down a little but the lights were broken until I got rid of the car, I thought it might work again, as long as I didn't get the same officer!

Just the other night my buddy and I were riding in my pickup, going over to his apartment. We were tearing through his neighborhood and a cop pulled us over. I looked behind me and on my back seat was the 30 pack of Coors we just "obtained" (were both under age). I thought for sure we were screwed. He came to the window, asked for my license and registration, so I told him I had to reach into the glove box for them. As I was fiddling with all the junk in the glove box, the cop starts looking in the cab of my truck and spots the beer. He asked if either of us had been drinking, and I said "No, not yet" he kind of chuckled and told me he'd be right back. My buddy and I were ****tin our pants and the cop came back handed me my stuff and said " You were going 47 in a 25, try to keep it down ok?" I said yes sir, and as he was walking back to his car, he said "Drink some coors for me will ya?" No ticket, no nothing.

  20. Hot summer night 1989, Missouri. Rounding the square in buddies 72 340/440 Demon. Straight header on one side. Cop on foot, waves us in. Writes ticket for no exhaust, hands buddy back his license. Big crowd around, lots of loitering. After much talk, buddy asks for license back. Cop says, " I gave it." Buddy says no! Large search for license, even checking for melted license on fenderwell headers. Cop tears ticket up if we put cherry bomb on somehow and leave town. I vise grip it on and we round the first corner, muffler falls off, I get out throw it in the trunk in sight of officer, and we leave town. He was a cool guy, always let us slide. Damn those days were fun.

Buddy of mine works in film SFX here in Australia. They were shooting the opening sequence for 'Ghost Ship' where the wire cable cuts everyone on the deck in half, and after a night's shooting they were covered from head to foot in 'blood' from the shoot. On the way home at daybreak they got pulled over for speeding, and over here it's proper etiquette to get out of your car and greet the cop as he approaches. The cop took one look and bolted!

    Cheers, Glen.

If you are ever over on this side of the Pacific,DO NOT jump out of the car,to greet the officer!!! That would be a good way to meet the business end of a firearm!

Got pulled over by a green 95 gt in kansas last month. trooper had a bike t-shirt, jeans, and a long ponytail poking out of his hat. the car had a one headlight on, and a HOOTERS front plate. He asked me for my ID and walked away. He came back to the car and asked if I ever go to the continental club and said he always parties there. I was then told that he normally runs drug task forces and just wants me to slow down a bit.
    I was stunned...
