The guys are thinking motorhome and B'Ville in August. Can we get on the salt near the pits with the motorhome for base-camp? I heard not. We'll have to beach the motorhome, God knows where, and hitch a ride to the action? That sure negates driving that lumbering piece of **** all the way to Utah. Any input?
What guy's... You may be able to pit with us for a trade of hanging out in your motorhome out of the heat...Lucky call me
You can certainly park the motor home at either end of the pits right outside the yellow caution tape, and right along the course. Your issues will come in when trying to get from the pits/motor home area to the start line which is a few miles away. Best to bring peddle bikes or be really nice and friendly to girls with cars there that like to cruz around from the pits to the start line all day.
You can't stay on the salt after sundown, it's closed for all including the participants. Use the motorhome during the day on the salt then head to the "bend in the road" for overnight.
Me and a couple buddies. Your idea may work. You race without a motorhome? Just a pickup and trailer?
we took a motorhome on the salt last year. left our eazy-up frames in place when we left for the day, took the canopys off in case of wind. that saved our place for the next day. everyone does it. had a minibike or two to get around the pits on. they're a long walk on foot if you plan to see it all. we stayed away from the starting line until our last day. went directly there first thing in the morning for a few hours, then returned to our saved spot. we stayed at the bend in the road at night. you can shower at the truck stop or bum a quick one from someone who was lucky enough to get a room. only downside was we never made it into town for the nightly festivities and goings on in the parking lots.
Just don't drive on the thin spots, where they tell you not to drive. Ask the Coddington gang what happens if you do.
Well Dan, over the years of going to the salt I have observed the following .. Unicycles (the kind with the big wheel) Tiny "crotch rockets" Powered bar stools Go-carts Of course these are for "pit roaming." For local "cruising"; (in town) dune buggies - helps if it has "tags" Mountain bikes - motorized and with "tags" Mopeds - will at least get you from one hotel parking lot to another And if all fails; a good old bicycle Oh, and I forgot; being nice to Denise.
I ride bicycle for exercise so I take it with me to Bonneville. I got 15 to 20 miles a day on it. I built a rack on my Mullins trailer for it. Charlie
Yeah, thats what I meant. Tow something to Wendover, S10/Suzuki jeep thingie, etc. Leave the motorhome at the bend and scoot about in the tow thing. Leave your tent frame as mentioned for a base of operations at the race track. Bottom line? Have fun, come see me in impound if you have a chance, DW
