That's the shot I was thinking of Mark, yes. You did send me a copy, I wasn't going to post it though. I thought that that shot was from Dragway 42 in '63. I love these kind of lineage mysteries to track down. Can you make out a name on the car in the Dragway 42 shot?
Jack Bliel sells some great S/S pictures including ones of the car as the Kentucky Colonel running at the Presque Isle Strip in Erie, PA. He sells it as Dyno Don but It is Heath ... I'm sure.
Either Hot Rod or SS&DI (can't recall at the moment) had a shot of it in a race report from Valkyria, FL calling it the Kentucky Colonel too.

The Fermier Bros. car at Island Dragway in '66 maybe '67. I took this photo. They came all the way up from the South chasing points a few times. Old friends Bobby & Harry Fermier used to stay at our house in northern NJ when they came up this way. Harry has since passed away but Bobby and Jim Amos have found the car and are nearly ready to run it again in the N/SS wars. It'll be baby blue as it was originally.

Yes, please leve your pictures large. I agree with Dean. If the file/scan is too large I don't think it'll be able to be posted so you're not taking up too much space ... as I understand it.

Ok, here's what alot of us did back in the early sixties and before ...
If you went to the track with your car and it maybe was a fast street car but knew you couldn't beat the dedicated cars in ... say SS/S or whatever ... and your car met the requirements of a higher class you up classed. You could just say you wanted to upclass or maybe you BS'd the tech guy ... fooling no one of course ... but what the hell.

Here's a pit shot from Flemington, NJ back in '62. Pete Cioffi and my brother and pals had a good fast street racer '62 Ford 406 ragtop. We towed to Flemington and saw that there were a few better set up cars in SS/S. The Ford ragtop not being the hottest setup for SS/S and looking around the pits some, we told the tech guy the car had a new option, a 427 inch motor running the 3-2's. Up we go into A/FX. The 409 behind us did the same except he was in B/FX ... maybe a 300/327 judging by the number on the window.

Bingo ... a single run with nobody else in A/FX that day and a trophy! Hot stuff with an A/FX win ... LOL! Note of course the obligatory signals by Richie Pedersen on the left, my brother next to him and Pete and his squeeze holding the trophy. Lots of fun back then.

The hot dog in SS/S at Flemington's 1/8th mile in '62 was a red Impala 409 owned by Joel Risoff (sp?).

Yes, that was the 65 all steel Ramcharger car my dad had bought. Ted had installed a injected hemi, awb the car, sold it to Dave Rupp in Florida and one of his mechanics, Nick Zapedis drove it for him. I have forgot the spelling on Nicks last name. It was supposed to be called "Tuff Shit" but since Dave owned the raceway there in west palm beach, too many people would bitch about it. So Tuff Shift it was named. Dave also bought my dad's 64 Ramcharger Super Stocker and still has it.

Sorry this is so fuzzy! This is a picture of the first Mr Norm Sport Club event at US 30 in Gary, In. Besides the Ramchargers and a couple other cars most of the 64 Dodges were sold new at Grand Spalding Dodge.

  25. Where did you find this shot? It was taken by John Durrand who shot for Eastern Drag News and SS&DI. I found an original Durrand 8x10 of this at the York Toy Show quite a few years ago. I've never seen another until this. John doesn't even have the negative for this one anymore even though he does have them for other shots from the same night. I think Dave was match racing Dyno Don the night this shot was taken.

Is that some kind of liquid dropping from behind the front bumper on the passenger side on the shot of Strickler at Cecil County ?

  27. Yes it is. Maybe radiator overflow. I don't think catch cans were required then.
