How do you keep a torque tube from dripping gear oil...this didn't happen untill I raked my 33 ford... Thanks, Guy
your rearend gear oil is running down the tube and leaking out of the cone at the u-joint,if i was guessing.if so, i make a oil seal plate that bolts between the tube and the rearend.it has a seal that seals off on the driveshaft, and keeps the oil in the rearend.give me a call if i can help. -danny
The front of the tube needs to be higher than the back. The gears throw the oil out, end up running out of lube and get very $. I believe Vern Tardel makes a seal for the torque tube.
Danny, Do you supply the torque tube seals to Dan Krehbiel in Temecula Calif? He rebuilt a Columbia for my '32 and supplied the seal plate that is between the tube flange and banjo. It works great no leaks at the u-joint. Also installed the neoprene o-ring seal in the u-joint cover from John's Transmissions from Ohio. No Leaks. The FOGGER
Danny, I've got a '32 V8 rearend (same as the '34) but it has a '40 ring and pinion, so the pinion sticks out farther. Does your seal plate work with this? What I have now is definitely not working, as evidenced by the oil dripping off the banjo and rear bumper after a long drive. FYI, the Tardel tube inserts don't fit the '32-'34 rearends.
yes,but i need to know what all has been changed from stock.there are slight differences between 33 and 40.i need to know the diameter of the drive shaft,at the pinion.also are you running a 40 banjo on a 32-34 tube,or a 32 banjo with 40 guts?the location of the oil drain back hole is in a different place.it would help if you could give me a distance from the banjo face to the end of the pinion. -danny
