  3. Tough call on the taillights Kirk, maybe the the less is more approach is needed. Something subtle not so out there. A single slight bubble and real smooth perhaps.

The rest of the car is kick****!!!

    Kirk,
Listen to your gut. The paint on the car is outstanding, and the entire flow of the car is****s. From the pictures it's hard to tell how the tail lights work with the entire car, but from the pics you posted they just look like some cheap after thought. i don't know if you were to even modify them some if they would work. The look of the car is just too sleek and smooth to have them sticking out like they do. And with a car as perfect as yours, why have one thing on them that is questionable... even 50/50 is a losing bet...

So my vote is a resounding no on the tail lights...

    Evel's post # 54, page 3 is exactly what I would suggest.
The current lenses look a little busy to me , and I think would be more at home on an olds, or roth style bubble top.
My opinion , more of a 60's mild flair- 2 or 3 horizontal strips ( white)
    Sometimes less is more.

Amazing. It must be totally amazing in the sunlight....

I am not feeling those tail lights at all...at all. That paint is ALL you need.

The car looks amazing....the taillights need to go. See If you can find ones with a metal peice in the center to mimic the Grille, I dont know if they exist. It seems to me there is no other pointy rocket shape on the car. my 2 cents

  10. Again,

I like the taillights, just not for your car- the paintwork is the focus, so something more subtle will do more for the car. It's kinda like what I tell my music theory kids- what you compose needs both stress and release. Too much release and the piece is boring, too much stress is hard on the ears and makes you stop listening.

Your taillights need to be more of a release for the eyes- something that makes you look at them after awhile and go, "Hmmm, yeah!" instead of "Wow!"

  11. Howzabout the same pattern, but scaled down in reverse, in holes in a sheet of polished stainless covering the taillights. Or a line of small bullets going through the taillights, across the cove through the other tailight. The cross thing looks kinda like the style they used on later model Fords 63-68.

If you like the look of the plexi, try looking into flourescent red plexi, make it into shallow vertical fins, don't polish the edges, and bond it to the flat taillight shape in clear plexi, paint the back of the clear lens your metalflake/lace blue, except mask where the flourescent plexi fins absorb the light from mthe back. The fins will glow kinda red even when not lit, and the lens background will be shiny and blue, when the taillights come on, the red fins will glow like neon tubes.

If the red plexi is too orange, hit it with some candy red to darken them up. or use Blue flourescent plexi for shows

yeah gotta add another no to the taillights. Kinda looks like a cheap afterthought to me too. I'm glad you decided to go with the pinstripe. I know in the early stages there were talks of leaving it off and I think it really adds some depth to the whole layout. (not that all that clear doesn't have enough depth). Looks amazing. I'll trade you my 30 year old double wide and a pig for it?

They were new unused lens when you got them for a reason, they're***** ugly. Put the stockers back on untill you find or have made the right looking ones for this awsome ride.

You want a real stupid suggestion?

How about OEM lenses on the street, and translucent blue ones while on display/cruising?

Shit, it's only three screws - and would be one more '60s show thing. Just a thought.

Taillights can make it or break it for me, and I'm not sure on yours. I'm leaning towards "cheap" honestly. I do like Lucky's idea of scaling them down some.

Didn't Ford have star trim available in the 60's , as an aftermarket decoration? I saw a dealer pack of them once, probably stainless. I guy used them on a door panel. Kind of shaped like what you have there. Could always pop a hole in the center and have a Lexan tube come through tastefully.

Have you been talking to Alex. He suggested blue ones too.

The stockers are going on until I can decide.

My opinion is basically worthless, but I don't think the taillights look that great. They seem kind of homemade up close and the white fins don't look good to me. They do seem much better lit up though. Maybe just more simple taillights might be better. That car already has enough incredible over the top detail and maybe in this case, less is more. Hopefully I can get over to the show this weekend to see it. Best of luck finishing it up. Better get out and get some more snacks for the guys.

    might look cool...

I like them though. The striping really sets off the panels nicely.

  29. I agree. Im not gonna pimp for anyone else, but the lenses look like you were desperate for the lenses to "measure up" to the rest of the car. They dont.
Red glass lenses with horizontal bars cut in them from the back. Not through the lens, just cut into it.
