The same thing happened to me. I had my Shoebox in the driveway for the first few months I had it. I didn't have room for it anywhere else (at the time I owned several cars that were in various buildings in town). It had all the windows, tires were up and it wasn't stripped. It was just that the paint wasn't shiny any more and it was not tagged ...I guess.

I went to the dective in charge of the case against me and calmly told him I knew who made the complant. I also calmly told him that I knew it was legal to park a registered, tagged car on the street for 72 hours before you had to move your vehicle. I then told him I have 5 other cars in the comparable shape of the one in question, and no more room anywhere other than my driveway to "store" one of them.

I told him I would take care of it, because it was my intention was to register all of my cars in the following week. He seemed pleased until I told him I was also going to park one of them in the street IN FRONT of the neighbor's house for 72 hours, then drive it away, get another one, and do the same thing over and over so that I may be in lockstep with the law. He told me to wait... he'd talk to them...

...I never had to do anything.

I often wonder how many of my neighbors "watch" me. I had my truck in the driveway for at least 3 years before I moved it in the garage. Half of the time I have a cover on it until the wind tore it up. And the reason I moved it in is because of an article in the local paper stating that the cops where getting ready to start ticketing vehicles.

I live in an eddition with about 400 or so homes on about 15 or so streets. There are about 5 or so of us in the neighborhood with "projects" in our garages. I see many other things in peoples yard that I would complain about than worry about the guy with the "junked car" in his driveway. Like the guy with the dogs that won't stfu.

    Good luck to you man.

We got a "leftover nazi" double-dipping ex- cop that was someones pal as a property inspector two years ago.(That's how we figured he was hired to his post? He didn't merit the position thru experience or personality!)
I have a very high respect for law enforcement, but mixed feelings for county agencies and their ilk.Especially idiots.

This guy went on a rampage and issued registered letters to property owners for piles of leaves and "junk on the porch."
    You know;pathetically stupid stuff?
A neighbor on my street framed his letter and hung it on his front porch, then called the newspaper to ask them to document it and his pile of leaves.

Things really quieted down after that.
(The neighbor raked his leaves and put his porch chairs(junk on the porch)away for the winter...

    Crazy #!!%^&!! ?

Just make the state government and insurance companies happy by putting your car back into the system. They understand money. Then you can tell everyone to go sweep their on back porch! Or , put it inside.:D

It might not be the "next" door neighbor that is doing all of the complaining.
When I lived in McGregor, Tx there were a group of old biddies who rode around in one of the group's big white Cadillac in the early evenings taking notes on things they didn't like in town. Then they would present the list to the city manager who also took care of code enforcement.

They usually had at least one thing to write up on me and I did hear from the city on my 34 Olds but putting the current tags on it took care of that at the time.

If you don't have tags on the project car TAG it now. Then move it around from one side of the driveway to the other or in the garage or cover it up with a car cover. If it runs and drives make a loop around the block once in a while so the neighbors know it runs. And then park it in a different spot.
I also am in firm belief that some of these cops and code enforcement guys are in cahoots with the tow companies, that happened here. We had a rash of desirable vehicles getting flagged and an unmarked tow truck showing up to drag them off. It took a friends dad who is a local bigwig to put the quits on that scam.

Can't tell you what to do with the parts car but I think I would get it stripped as soon as possible and pass it on to the next guy.

Living way to hell out in the country doesn't help that much anymore. My buddy just got nailed for his mess and had to get rid of a bunch of stuff that he should have gotten rid of a long time ago. But he had so many that the local farmworkers referred to him as "that hillbilly with the junk yard".

There's always a loophole...just look for it. My neighbor across the street has a big cube van that he uses for storage....it was tagged for towing....I told him that since it is over 25 years old he could get antique plates for it....good forever with just a one time insurance cert.....done deal. The girl at the dmw questioned him about the vehicle, and he told her is is an antique EMT vehicle that he uses in parades. HA!!! He's a good neighbor....just needed to know the loophole.

  11. I went thru the same crap when Ilived in Milwaukie Oregon. My born again uptight never gets laid neighbor would call the cops every time anything didnt go to her likeing...even to the point I got ticketed for blocking my own drive way at 7:30 am with my own truck and trailer as I loaded for a trip.....now I move back to arizona bought a acre outa town where all my neighbors were buildin something, and nobody says shit about my cars.....even my pile of t fenders bodys and frames we just scored.bottom line ya gotta find a way around their bullshit games, and once you find out who the snitch is.........Then again we are still allowed to carry a gun on our hip here!!

  12. Do not do this they do not need any help MAKING PEOPLE UN HAPPY
JUST GO ASK WHAT CAN BE DONE TO COMPLY EXPLAIN THAT YOU HAD JUST GOTTEN THE ONE CAR 24 HOURS BEFORE THE CITATION AND WILL NOT BE LEAVING IT THERE PERMENENTLY
BE CIVAL AND YOU WILL BE TREATED FAIRLY
THATS WHY THEY ARE CALLED CIVIL SERVANTS

PS CEASE ANY ILLEAGAL ACTIVITY(IF ANY?) AS THEY NOW HAVE MEANS FOR A PROPERTY INSPECTION TO SEE IF YOU COMPLY

    GOOD LUCK:D

I agree with PAPERDOG 100%!! Take his advice.

  14. This gives me an idea for "abandoned" cars in the middle of nowhere, ignore me if someone else said it over the last 4 pages. Just report a nuicance junk vehicle, watch for the green sticker, wait ten days, and call a buddy with a tow truck. Follow him to the junkyard, and VIOLA! Probably more to it than that, but you get the idea.

Shit, where I live your o.k. if it's on your property. I've had my '48 on my driveway, in peices, for two years. Nothing.

  16. Tags or get a storage unit, depending on where you live a storage unit is $50-200 a month for a unit that can hold two cars.

Leaving a untagged car on the driveyway is hard to do most areas unless you are in a rural area. You just have to work with the system.

Hey Richard, That is a pretty dick move to do to someone. Maybe that's what is happening to this guy? I know you wouldn't do that now would you? Even that abandoned car belongs to someone.

Similar thing happened to my dad a few years back. How he handled it was by calling his local congressman and telling him he isnt a voting man but could be? The problem went away!

Readin this, I'm fearing the day the cops in my neighborhood have to start 'doing their job'. Most have stopped by to say hi and talk about their own project cars or 'that one reminds me of ...'
I've got my own project in the garage, but three others in the yard...no tags, one's a 'georgia truck' (no title). One's tarped as it leaks...one doesn't and one isn't worth tarping right now.

    Best of luck with that.

Man I dont wish for many things, being a grown man and all, most things can be worked for.

But I really, really....reeeealllly wish you wouldnt log on here anymore. All you have is white trash trucks and your posts are either about shooting people, pomporiffic screw this or that I have something to prove, or trailers..and whether that be of car transport or broken down living arrangements is unclear at this time.

  23. damn lighten up.RichardD was just makin fun of the bullshit the cops and government guys pull on everyday taxpayers..........I doubt he would even think of doing this for real.......

Use it to your advantage, you got 10 days to strip everything off the parts car you want, then let them take the carcass away, saves you the trouble of disposing of it yourself.

I live in a sleepy little town in the middle of the cornfields. Spent a couple of years on the Village board. Really interesting. Seems people only want to come to the board meetings to bitch about poor drainage, barking dogs and junk cars.

Anyway, we have this one old guy who has about half a dozen old cars on his lot and the neighbors were complaining to the board. One of the board members volunteered to go talk to the guy. The guy was a little pissed off about the whole thing but asked what he had to do to be able to keep the cars. The board member tells him that he has to put them inside of a fence.

Here's where it gets funny. The old guy runs out to Menards and buys a bunch of stockade fence panels and some wire. Takes it all back to his place and wires these panels up to the sides of the cars. Just encloses each one in it's own little privacy fence. Probably didn't even have to take the fences down to move the cars. I laughed my ass off!

Small town politics, everyone should take a turn.

I live out in the sticks a bit, like a house every 400 feet.Must be a law here that says ya have to have at least one junker parked in the driveway.

  29. Similar has happened to me. But now I have a broke down Mercedes in the drive for a year and a half and nothing is said. Front yards scattered with kids toys cause people are too lazy to clean up is just fine . Our hobby is always under scrutiny from the "PROPER" folk

Same deal with boats here as well...you can't store them in your driveway or within sight. But you know, that's okay with me. I love old cars as much as the next guy, but if you start parking junkers in the driveway, then there is nothing preventing you from parking them on your front lawn along with refridgerators and busted washing machines (with a couple of pit bulls leashed to the handles). I don't think its asking too much. Yeah, I know there are pricks everywhere, but I'd be just as concerned about property values too.

I've got a 2-car garage, and I choose to use it for storing and working on my rides. It is NOT full of household shit that the wife thinks she just has to save.

Like someone said, take off the parts you need and get rid of it.
