A guy gave me this to get it out of his yard. What's the coolest thing you've got for FREE. Wife says I got ripped off.
Well, I will be giving a '51 Chrysler away for free if anybody is interested. Then they can add that to the post. As for my freebies, I would have to say the knowledge that I have obtained through this site so far is worth it's weight in gold my friend.
I bought a 51 Merc with a running flathead V8 for $300.00. It came with a spare block and Merc crank. Sold the block/crank for more than I paid for the car. Pulled the running flathead to use in my 31 coupe. Sold the Merc body for $500.00, the guy wired the money and said he wold pick the car up in a week or two. That was 2 years ago. I still have the car and paperwork so I have started working on it. Got 70 and 72 MG's for free a few months ago. 1 is running the other is complete but all apart. Bought a 79 TA a few weeks ago for parts. Paid $200.00. It had a Olds 455 block and all the other parts for the motor in the trunk. Kept the motor and most of the interior parts, tilt steering, spoilers, flares, shaker, etc then sold the stripped hull for $225.00.
i buy lug nuts from the same guy at swapmeets & a couple times he told me to take 1 extra lug nut! i never got no 66 impala free YET anyway! goooood score!
got a cool chrome bullet cauge cup and an old lucite turnsignal knob made at the high school i graduated from. then the other day he gave me an old cue ball drilled for a shift knob.... really bitchin patina!
Black '64 T-bird interior and a couple of carI parted out more completely than he did from this guy from TX, fuel pump from AHotRod, Abunch of SS trim and other stuff from ABoneboy, found 3 PERFECT 14" smoothies down by the street in somebody's trash as I drove by, two are on my Dad's trailer, one got sprayed candy green just to see what it would look like, same trash day situation with a huge box of old 70's style chrome air cleaners, gave one to Aboneboy, kept a bunch of the 4bbl bases for Caddy air cleaners. I also got a scorching case of sabre-tooth crotch crickets from Blackie Hot Balls last week.
Soon as I can get back up north I can have two (2) 1953 Desoto Firedome Hemis ... come ooonnnnn Spring!
I have a 65 , I really wasnt fond of the look but i bought it as a project because i have done bikes and stuff but never an old car. The one i got was a nice starter for my skills , not a total basket case infact it was really streight. The 65 was born the same year as me plus i got a steal from the owner. I will tell ya the car has grown on me , i like the tail lights of the 65 more then the 66 but for free how can you complain.. Cheers and good luck.
I was given this chevy II when my cousin passed away,, HRP I don't know when or if I will ever get around to building this car,,,but it ain't for sale.
Um that wasn't free it cost you a cousin. I got a '53 Stude that a fellow HAMBer pretty much gave to me. I gave it away and it came back. So I guess its twice as free as anything any of you guys got.
a guy called me and asked if i would haul off a 56 chevy that was setting in his field,so i JUMPED .when i got there it was a 54 chevy more door, that goats had been using as a home/jungle jim.it was in real bad shape .i pulled the trim, grille anything that i could and sold it to another guy for $200...
The latest freebie from on of my running buddies. The 292 that is going in the 48 in the next coupled of months. A few years ago he showed up with an early 60's Chev pickup with an Olds 350 and turbo 350 in it. Free, It had a knock when idling. The knock was loose torque converter bolts. that engine and trans were in my 51 Merc before dark and running down the road a few days later. I probably put 75K miles on that engine without a problem.
I got a '54 Hudson Jet for free. It was the small body style, Coupe I shoulda kept it, as it woulda made a very unique rod. However I already had a '55 Ford, '55 Olds, '56 Pontiac, '59 Ford truck already so i was out of room. Ended up trading the Hudson for a bunch of Model A stuff.
You are so right,,,but he told his wife that he wanted me to have the car,,,not his dope smoking brother,,, The strange thing is I didn't even know him that well,,,,but one thanksgiving he and his wife were here at my home and he wanted to go out in the shop,,,he was in a wheel chair and had something the doctors could not get a grip on,,,, He was interested in the wagon project and we talked for a couple of hours how when he got better I would help him with the chevy II,,,,sadly in a few months he was gone.HRP
