People who say (I'll take it) only to leave you waiting for a payment that never arrives, because they change their mind, or didn't have the money to buy it to begin with, are a pain in the ......! However, sellers who don't sell to the first one who posts(I'll take it), I believe, fit into the same description. I have been done this way twice lately. When there have been no views and no responses to a just listed item, you know that you had to be the first to respond. Not hard to figure out! What do you guys think?

it's usually better to send a pm to the seller. That way he can't go anywhere on the HAMB without at first knowing he has one. If the seller just doesn't sell to ya that's one thing BUT if the seller got a pm by somebody else FIRST saying that he'll take the item then you didn't get there first. They should at least post a sold on thier add

  3. Well I have refused to sell to people because I didn't know them been left hangin' more than once on that one. But that is a rare occasion. Guess I'm old school HAMB if you don't take the time to at least tell who your are (Intro) I figure you got something to hide. (uh not you personally just you in general).

But I see where you're commin' from completely.

In defense of someone who you have decided is a looser I think a lot of times the fellas will put something up here then someone local finds out without even commin' on the HAMB. It gets sold no h***le no shipping. They probably weren't thinking about you at all just peddlin' the parts. I doubt if it was anything personal at all.

Does that make it right, probably not but its probably not worth getting shook over either. There's more parts out there, you'll get what your after if you're after eventually.

My pet peeve is guys that sell you something spend your cash and the pieces never arrive. Then they wonder why you don't ever want to buy anything from them after that. Go figure.

I guess that's probably true. I've bought and sold here and never even had to question anything as it always went the way it should. I do use paypal mostly and maybe that's why it's been so easy but at the same time I've sent money orders too but still never had parts withheld or been refused. Oh hell I guess I'm a little:confused: by it. I do see your point too

They have been few and far between for me. Gotta be a jerk in every crowd I guess. I guess the reason it bugs me is that I expect everyone to keep their word no matter what the cost. Probably makes me an idealist.

That said I think I bought some heater valves from one of the fellas a year or so back and never sent the cash. I don't recall who it is and I've gone thorugh my PMs and can't find where I was supposed to send the cash. So if I didn't dream it and I owe you cash on some water valves drop me a note.

Well I hijacked the post; damn haven't done that in a while.:D

with what? 46000 plus members? it would be impossible to know who to trust . Sometimes you can get an idea just from their posts that they or he can be a jerk( I left out the she on purpose). All I can say is that I haven't had ANY problems with anyone here and hope I don't. Hell you can screwed after you send your money to somebody on the auction site as well , oh wait I just did get screwed on there. Anyway the thing to do like said before is if you see a part or something in the cl***ifieds you want, send a PM and hope you get there first and the seller does it right. My other .02

I listed some parts here and on 2 other sites. I sold a part on another site, but didn`t post SOLD until I had the cash in hand. In the meantime, I go to check on my ad here and some guy posted "SOLD -- it`s mine" below my ad. I PM`d him to let him know that another guy was sending money. Yea, he got all bent outa shape. I guess he figured as long as he posted "sold" to my ad and didn`t PM me, they would officially be his parts ... ??

Doesn't matter if a person is first to speak up or not. Calling "dibs" is ****. There are a few people who do it religiously just so they can get their name in the hat and then figure out if they can swing the deal.

The first dude to produce the cash is the new owner and if that dude just happens to be local so the seller doesn't mess with shipping it's even better.

Sure it's great to help a fellow HAMBer out when you can but let's face it, people only post items for sale for one reason... to get them sold.

If being the first to PM and say I'll take it doesn't count for anything, then to people like me, this is a lot of wasted time. I post and send a PM both. What I was complaining about, is a new listed item with 0 views, only in this case can one know that he was the first. I bought 440 parts on the internet last year, and recently drove 1,200 miles to pick up a part from a H.A.M.B.er. Don't get me wrong, my experience on the H.A.M.B. has been very POSITIVE! In fact, I have met some true old school rodders here!My suggestion in order to keep your buyers buying at this site rather than other sites is that if you are only going to sell to people you know, put that in the add. The H.A.M.B. is great, but there is always room for improvement.

If you see a newly listed item with what looks like zero views, it's very likely that someone has already beaten you to the punch.

Most message boards don't instantly update the view count, it takes 1/2-hour usually for the counts to update.

You might not have been the first one to PM the seller. I honestly doubt that when you see zero views on a thread that you're the first to view it. A lot of folks are watching the cl***ifieds here on the HAMB.

Just trying to help you see the way message boards work here so you don't misunderstand the seller's intentions or actions.

  12. Maybe its just me but I don,t know how some people can sleep at night or hold their head up in public knowing they ripped off a fellow rodder. They are especially taking their chances doing it to a fellow Hamber!!! They know who they are and are justing waiting in fear of being singled out......

Don't forget RSS feeds. Someone may respond off of one of those and you would have no idea either way.

The point is, the seller has the right to sell to whoever they think is going to make the deal the smoothest. If that's you, great. If not, that's the way it goes.

It all boils down to what the seller wants to do. If the seller wants to go in order that is up to them.

As far as what we will police, we don't consider a deal a deal until the seller has been paid. As mentioned, it;s up to them to determine who is paying them.

By the way, this isn't a cl***ified site. We don't make any money on them. In fact, they cost the HAMB money and cost the mods their free time. We provide it as a service and that is all. It makes no difference to us if people buy here or not except that we do want the cl***ifieds to work for HAMB members.

What if the first guy to respond is the same one who has said he will take something, only to back out three times in a row? If the first guy says send me a picture, and the second one says I'll take it, who gets it?

Frank, by the time the same guy backed out of three deals he'd be on my ignore list and not answered ever. Asking for a pic means nothing if someone else steps up and says they'll take it. With as many members as there are here it only stands to reason that a share of them have no integrity and no qualms about flaking on a deal. However most are great and the transaction goes smoothly My .02

Just a couple of simple rules for easy living.....

    1) If you say yay, buy it!
    2) If you sell, send it
    3) If you miss out get over it

    I do all 3.

Just because a guy wants a picture -- means nothing. The first guy to speak up and says "I`ll take it" gets it. Period.

I sell to the first person who puts cash in my hand.

If I want to buy something from someone, I make sure to get the money to them ASAP. If I drag ***, I don't get pissed if they sell to someone else before I do.

Money talks. Two weeks ago, I bought a welder of CL. I saw the add in the morning, and I drove 100 miles to pick it up that afternoon after work. If I had waited, it would have been gone.

What's so difficult anout telling a potential buyer you'll hold it for "X" number of days or hours and keeping a list of of other guys' emails, phone number, etc and contacting them if the first guy flakes?

I called a guy in Syracuse (about 90 miles away) one time and told him I'd be there in two hours. I gave him my name & phone number and he said he'd hold it for me. I got there within the two hours and he said he'd sold it about an hour after I called and gave me the "Money talks....." ********. I was so pissed, I never said a word, just climbed back into my truck and left before I did something I'd regret. I guess some peoples word ain't worth squat any more.

I was buying something a few weeks ago and called the guy who was busy the day I was in his area. He tells me "don't worry it's yours and it isn't going anywhere" that was on Saturday....then on Tuesday I get a PM saying someone else wants it what should he do??? I was a little pissed and responding a little rudely as I was ready to pick it up once (5 1/2 hours from home..just happened to be in the area)
My take on it is if you tell someone it's yours ...then it IS. Otherwise tell them that it's for sale until someone gets there with the cash. (my item was only $20 and no I didn't pay for it because I was told not to worry about it)

i admit to being guilty once. i had a pair of 40 ford drums and backing plates listed here. i had a person very interested in them. i was supposed to get a shipping quote, but before i could do that, i was reminded of a promise i made to sell them to a friend. this friend had helped not only me, but everyone he knows by machining parts we needed. i felt bad about the hamb deal. i ended up just giving them to my buddy. now, i ask around if anybody is interested in stuff before i post it here. live and learn.

Well I had an experience here last year of a guy saying he wanted it. Then after over two weeks of excuses and waiting for the money he tells me he doesn't have time to get a money order and mail it. B.S. If you want it don't expect someone to hold a part until you decide you can spare the time to send the money. Also just because it's listed here doesn't mean no one else can buy it either. When someone steps up and says they want it I mark the item SALE PENDING when I recieve the money then and only then is it marked SOLD
