Just curious what is the fastest car you have owned. I didn't own it but daddy had a 75 Ranchero Gt with a 460 that would run the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds.

Daddy took that car through a ditch into a field he went back the next day to see what damage he did and the firsttire mark in the field was twenty feet from the ditch!

My T-bucket. Approx. 400 hp 396ci in a 2000 lb car. It had a 3:08 posi rear end and would hook up beautifully. Always launched dead straight. I never got a 1/4 mile time on it, but a few racers who rode with me estimate it in the low 11's. Fastest I had it going was 130 mph on the highway. I'd have tried for a little more but I noticed the windshield glass was starting to bend. :p

  9. My first car was a Bug that ran high 10's,consistant 11.0's. Miss that car!!!

68 Chevelle, factory SS396 car. Car had 68k original miles. I put a 468 in it with a Turbo 400. In street trim....28x10.5 tire, bench seat w/laps belts......10.10 in a quarter with a little spray. Didn't stop real good with drums on all 4 corners.....pissed the tech guys off., no loop, no cage, no real saftey items.....Took it out and put in a cut up car after that.

I bet it would if daddy still had it. I bring it up every now and again and he will start to tear up because he misses that car. It was stock expect for the carb. I've seen him wear countless tires off the car. Ihave also seen him out run 5 cop cars one nite in town, got busted the next day then got the ticket thrown out of court because he was goin so fast before the cops could pull out and turn the lights on we were a 1/8 mile up the road.

You must of had some serious shit done to that 460.If you go to the 1/4 mile calculator http://www.teamenvy.com/battlecalc.htm .it say's you should be putting out around 1100 hp. That's awsome!!! I love to see some pictures.

There has to be more to that story...

The T I have now with 348 and 3X2s is probably among the fastest, but my first new car was a '71 Mach 1. 351 Clevland, Detroit locker, C6 tranny, was probably the fastest. Hard to believe I bougth that car brand new for $4200 and change. Harder still thinking that I traded it in on a new VW Bus a couple years ater.
    Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

Well maybe not that stupid, Hippie chicks liked it. I told people it was a sports car. When they looked at me funny, I just told them it depended on what sport you were into.

Nothing was done to it but a holley carb swap. The 9 sec at a 1/4 mile was done to weeks after the car was brought new in 75. After that night daddy never took it to the track again but raced it on a 1/4 mile bridge a few mile from the house. He blow the motor in it when I was seven years old and sold it. Good times. It's hard to belive the only car to ever beat him was a Chevy.

I'm thinking he might mean 9 seconds in the 1/8 mile.

I mean in the 1/4. It was done at Franklin county speedway. They done do 1/8 mile races, only 1/4. I think daddy still has the sheet that tells the time on it if he does I'll post it som how.

I used to own a 71 Buick 455. I had it punched out to 462ci and figured that it had around 575hp and 650fp of torque. It weighed 3175 lbs empty and the best I ever ran was a 10.82 @ 125mph.It's best 60' time was a 1.46.It usually yanked the left front about 6" in the air.I ran that thing for 7 years and it was consistant as all hell. What I'm saying is that it's hard to say what kind of times a car will run unless you take it to the track.I'm sure your dads car was fast, but only the slip tells the truth.

  25. No way dude. Not possible. Have you ever really been to a drag strip?

Maybe it was a 1/4 mile from the top of the bridge to the river below in 9 seconds flat.

Seriously man, you do have the info wrong..Not trying to ruin the image you have of your dad's car, but it take's a LOT more than a carb swap to propel a Ranchero, or ANY car for that matter to 9's..
    I have a personal friend who own's a 67 Nova with a 434 that run's 9.80's natural and 8.60's sprayed...
This car is a very serious no bullshit car that's proven itself many time's....and it turned over 1100 on the dyno.....
That's a LOT more than a carb, and a lot less weight than a Ranchero......Unless he was tethered to a top fueler at the time
    it didn't happen...sorry.

My monte SS 377/th400 turned 112, 117 in the traps. Limited slip was going out, 60' times were nothing to brag about. That damn car sucked my wallet dry. Of course my fj1200 went 150 before I backed off, and it cost less than my lower end did.
