    I wanna say that the Hudson is a '51. Is it a Commodore 6, or a 8?

    That Packard I8 is probably a 356 cube monster. 160 hp. 3-1/2" x 4-5/8" bore/stroke. If not it's a 327 I8 with a 4-1/4" stroke. But I think I read once that ambulances and limos got the 356.

That's a 1951 Commodore Six Custom. It originally came with the 123hp 262 inline six motor, NOT the 308 which was only available in the Hornet in 1951.

The car looks to me like it *might* be restorable. The door bottoms look pretty rusty. If they are, you can guarantee that the car's perimeter frame around the back side of the car is junk, and that's an expensive fix unless you happen to be a bodyman.

As is, in your neck of the woods, you'd probably get between 600 and 1600 for the car if it is complete and non running. Out here, well, let's just say I picked up a 49 a month ago in about the same shape for $100.00.

I'd be interested in that spare front bumper if you are going to sell.

    yeah yeah yeah.

    i get it.

"tell me about this car...i need info! 'c-mon guys, don't you know anything about this car?...I need to know so I can put it up for sale."

    uh-huh.

    nice.

  15. Hudson doesn't look bad. Look over the frame rails from the rear seat back. They like to rot where they kick up for the rear axle, and right ahead of the rear bumper brackets. Fixable, but a lot of work. if it's solid though it's a good $800-$1000 car. Less rotty, more like $500, depends on what shape the motor and dash and stuff is in.

I wish they were available in that shape for $100 here, I had to pay $300 for one with no motor, no front clip, and a bunch of frame rot and flat tow it 125 miles to storage (I thought it was too nice to let get crushed).

I wouldn't rag on the guy, sounds like he had a shot to put his money where his mouth is, buy a bunch of cars and keep them from being s****ped. No one's going to build all those cars at once and most people can't store them forever. If he sells them, he sells them, at least they're not on the way to China to become who knows what. I do the same damned thing all the time.

Packard should have a body tag on it that says what series it is, that can be used to determine the exact year, but it appears to be 49-50. Should be worth a few bucks on the professional car board, they're not exactly common.

22nd-Series Packards were built in '48 and mid-way thru the '49 model year. Based on the 3 grille bars wrapping around the fender, looks like a 22nd-Series. According to the 'Professional Cars' book, the '48 Henney was very popular with 1941 ambulance/he**** units built. There were more than just 1 body style; book lists a '7-window' as #14894 and a '5-wondow' as #14800.

You have a Packard Custom most likely a 22nd series. This would be 48 or 49. They are the same car. The tag on the cowel just in front of the stearing wheel should have 4 numbers if it has a -9 stamp behind the 4 numbers it is a 49. I do not think it is a 23rd series. Every thing forward of the steering wheel is Packard. Hennning commercial body behind. The motor will be a 356 inline 8. I do not think it would be the 327!! The grill is the big egg crate style which is the big clue. The nose on those cars are 7inches longer than the Junior car to allow for the bigger "8" motor. I have a hot rodded Custom 4 dr with a Big Block 454 Chev. I still have the 356 and trans/with OD. Does it have a 3spd or an automatic???? Ter409

Restin&Rustin I'm helping my friend get ready for the Portland swap meet this weekend. We are trying to take an "A" sedan and a "T" roadster. I will try to post some pictures when I get back. What I did to the Packard is to make it into my tow rig. The original motor and trans worked but was getting tired so I installed a 454 with a turbo 400 out of a mid 70s 1 ton PU. I then had a Ford "9" in posi narrowed and installed a new set of axles with Packard bolt pattern studs. All of the rear suspension is Ford truck. I tried to keep the car looking as stock as possible but with heavier running gear. The upholstery was re-done in a tuck and roll years ago. Looks like a gaudy TJ Mex boat upholstery. I also buy and sell almost everything I own so don't pay any mind to anyone telling you its wrong. Good Luck on your adventures. Ter409

ter409 sounds cool cant wait.and teddy thats far out.lol i like it that packard has style and in good shape too, when was that pic taken?

  24. Reason everyone is sure the Packard is a Henney is that Henney had contracted with Packard to be their sole commercial body builder. Flipside was that Henney would convert no other manufacturer's cars either.
Guess what happened to Henney 'round about the mid-fifties??
As was stated, you will find that the only "Packard" in your Packard is the dash, cowl and forward bits. Many times even the exterior trim in the rear is commercial-specific.
Good luck with it, neat car.

The Hudson is a 51. Commodore probably, Wasp, possibly. Should be the 262" 6.
