Hey everyone- just thought I'd share pics of my 6v coil that I turned into a remote master cylinder reservoir. Thanks for looking!
The coil is an old early 30's or 40's Delco-Remy unit that I got from a guy named "the Russian". I gutted it, rounded off the fins with an angle grinder air tool and some roloc discs and scotchbrite discs, and made the top piece with a 3 1/4" hole-saw. Then I took that peice and put a bolt through it and stuck the bolt in the drill press, used the roloc discs to get the edges relatively smooth and to round the top edge, and then finished it off with emery cloth followed by 80 and 120 grit sandpaper. I had a local machine shop weld in the aluminum tube, and then I tapped it out to 3/8"-16 thread and put the aluminum bolt in it. I'm not quite done getting the old paint off of it, but I will be soon. Better than billet!
Kool! I've seen similar one's acting as heatsinks on a coupla' my s**** industrial motors. Surely I can find something under the hood to use them for. Thanks for sharing!!
The end that goes to the master cylinder is just flat with a brake line fitting pipe-threaded into the tube in the middle of the reservoir. I'll put pics up soon- I mounted it to my firewall.
Very cool man! Looks like it deserves a very cool-headed bolt. I'm imagining a big old 12pt blower stud of something. Let's see it under the hood once it's all ready to rock!
I'll get pics of it under the hood this weekend...where would one find a bolt like that? It's threaded 3/8 16 (course)... Thanks!
You should have tapped it metric and used a Honda V-Tec head stud. Then it would actually have some performance aspect.
It was the first thing I thought of because I like to use what I find at the track or get for free. Especially cool stuff like broken blower studs. They are hollow aluminum so the blower separates form the manifold and anyone who races a big blower car will have handfulls. To buy them would be stupid, but all it would take is a piece of threaded rod and a cool looking 12 point nut.
you sweeds build some sick **** anyhow... this is some really cool tech, and it's gonna have me looking for these at a swap meet from now on. reminds me of goin to a home store with mama fiddy,,, ya never know what you're gonna find
It'll be going on the '40. I didn't make it to Fergus this weekend because of all of the white **** that fell from the sky...next weekend I'll have pics up!
