    The date is Sept. 4 - 7 2008

The fall show is pretty good ... but not as large as the Spring one. No Red field and possibly no green field. Usually no rain but it is HOT ... and HUMID ...

This most recent Spring Autofair was my 30th straight year at the Speedway. The AACA Hornest's Nest moved their swap meet from the Metrolina fairgrounds to the Speedway 30 years ago. I have had spaces every year. The first year, my spaces were on pit road ... and the flea market stuff was on the pit road, the gr*** in front of pit road and the straightaway between turn #4 and turn #1. Then just the Blue field filled up. They added the orange field. Needed more room so the Green field was added. Filled it up also ... the Red field was added.

I have seen it WET, HOT, nice and even SNOW ... in my time there. Sometimes it is so hot and humid, you would love a little rain. Sometimes it rains all three or four days. I woke up one morning 20 years or so ago and there was snow on the ground around my swap meet spot. Weather is always a factor ... and changes evry year.

The Charlotte swap meet is like most swap meets, it has changed over the years. No more days of early V8 Ford stuff in half the spaces ... china tools, cans of spray paint and cheap stuff has slowly but surely ... invaded it. The dreaded comment " It will bring that price on eBay " has also invaded the swap meet.

But I still love to go ... :D and plan on being there until I die ... or if I cannot go by myself ... and cannot get someone to take me.

I had a good time. It was good to see a few HAMBers.

I bought a few little pieces.... & a hood & set of tires for my '32. Also bought a nice neon clock that is already repainted with two new neon rings being made for the outside. Does anyone recognize it from the swap meet? The seller was in the Orange field just a few rows in from Turn 4. He had another neon clock that I wish I had bought. On the off chance that anyone knows the guy, I'd like to get in touch with him re: that other clock.

Thanks to DeuceRoadster for bringing my hood & hood latches.
