What we have here is a 1934 Hupmobile J model, No motor, trans, boot lid, stearing colum, floor, interior, trim, etc... What you see is pretty much what you get, very little rust, the right side is nearly perfect but it has rolled onto the left side some time in it's life. The bonnett is perfect, all the wood has rotted out so the body is a bit floppy, I can fix all the panel work, I'm just wondering if it is worth it, I'm leaning towards no, alot of work. The car is being offered very cheap, I interupted it's trip to the scrap metal man. Anyway, what do you think?

SAVE IT! The 30's Hupmobiles are awesome. If we were on the same continent, I would be trying to get it from you.

Build it! Those are unusual, and have killer art deco stylilng. Plus you'll be saving an important piece of automotive history.

I'd say go for it. It's basically the same body as my '35 and I'm pretty happy with how mine came out. I shortened mine 6" and made it a 2 door. Mine had all the wood intact, but it was still wobbly, having both doors swing from the b-pillar and having it hung in wood made for wobbly. I replaced all the wood with square tubing-much more sturdy.

Gary, your car is awesome. I saw a feature on it (I forget which mag it was), just perfect. I'm not usually that into sedans, but for some reason it just really struck a chord with me. Congrats on a job well done.

  26. Hard to tell how big that car is but it has kind of a Willys vibe to it. Like the missing link between 1935 and 1940. Brace it a little, leave it wobbly and build a gasser. Someone had to say it.

The first one of those I ever saw in person was at a Tridents Car Show here in Long Beach and it was painted Bronze Metal Flake!
    They make cool Rods/Customs.

Here are a few rough sketches of some ideas I had, the first is just a chop job, the second is a chopped panel van, and the third would require the most work, a chopped 2 door sedan. I have always wanted a gasser so I thought the third drawing would lend it's self to that the best.
