I'd beware of the cracking bondo on the rear door as well, a good sculptor can make a rustbucket look solid. Add in the missing pieces and you've got yourself a parts car and one that's been picked over at that...

If it had a complete ch***is, maybe. You can break the bank finding all the parts you would need. Check the Parts Car section of Ebay Motors under Antiques and Cl***ics; there's usually some pretty good deals on there.

  10. How many times have I read some guy crying about the yards crushing out the old stuff, how it should be saved etc etc.

Current s**** price here is $300 a ton. That shell will crush for more than some of you guys would offer.

If you like the car, give him what he wants. Maybe by doing that you'll have a shot at the next one that you want from him.

Or, lowball him, piss him off, and come here crying when he crushes out.

Well, I think it's a little steep, but if you can find a donor frame and body - hell, you'd need to start with a whole other "parts" car to get anywhere. I'd help out, but I have the back half of a two door sedan on the frame, NOT the front half.
You like 4-doors more than 2-doors on a Fleetline? Wierd. I guess those of us who will settle for nothing more than two doors bless guys like you. Thanks! :D

Does he have a similar yeared Buick or Pontiac ... I've considered doing the exact opposite in a previous post by "morphing" the back half of a 49 Buick Sedanette into the front half of my rust ***ed Chevy. I still haven't s****ped that plan.

    Yeah, that.
Boys and girls, the days of $200 cars is slipping past with s**** bringing over 200 a ton. I know a local guy who crushes a few on the side and he is getting $250 a ton for crushed cars. That makes that fleetline worth every penny of $250, even if it doesn't have $100 of good parts on it.
I need the panel below the trunk from that car.

Yep, the yards around here are paying $250 for a complete car these days...................and I can't even unload a '92 Buick for $200 (not that it matters here :) )

What do you want to do with it?

  17. Go ahead and buy it. I have found that the initial purchase price usually is the cheapest portion of a car. the doors should would be worth $75 each .I could use the rear bumper. If you are planning a 4 door build and you have a place to keep it you will come out ahead in the long run. OldWolf

Fuuuuuuuuuck no. Save your money and keep your eyes open. You can probably get a runner for less than 2 grand. Open a separate savings account for your car money and sock a little away here and there and just keep your eyes open.

  20. Yep!

That car is very worth it if you need doors, gl***, stainless, patch panels, garnish moldings, etc. My donor tailpan section was $100...thank god someone parted out one of these Chevy's, or I would've been stuck paying 5x that for good patches.

Low49...are you bailing on the coupe? I've seen you post a bunch of stuff on cars that look worse than what you already have...

NO NO NO NO NO NO!! I'll never sell my coupe it took 18 years to get it back.Im workin a little along on it and im taking a 5 day vacation starting this wed. so i hope to make some progress then.
I just happened upon this 50 at a local yard and i just hate to think of it getting crushed and sent over to China. However it is very incomplete and like was said above it would take another car to restore this one.
I have a soft spot for the 49-54's and this one is a heartbreaker.
    Ya know what i mean?

  22. I hear ya...I had to p*** on a solid '50 hardtop for $800, a free '50 sedan with a bad chop, and a bunch of other cars 'cause I just don't have the room.

Glad to hear you're keeping the coupe...I know you were super stoked to finally get it back.

With the bondo I see I would question what under it I wouldn't even take for free some things are just not worth the time unless you needed it for parts but even then, i don't know.

It's well worth 250 if you have a crunched 4dr that needs the parts that are present on this parts car to fix yours BUT, If you are buying it to restore, I'd save the 250 and put it towards a better candidate. I've found out the hard way that you'll always have way more money in a rough basket case than if you paid more to start with for a better candidate.

Just as it is cheaper to buy a parts car (like this one) than it is to buy each individual piece, it is cheaper to buy a nicer example that doesn't need all those piece$ and body work.

After doing this for 40 years you get pretty good at mentally adding up the costs of the replacement parts needed to take it from a parts car to a decent roller let alone a finished driver. JMO

part it out on ebay (if you have the space to keep it). You could at least double your money, looks like there is still a lot of gl*** and trim and other parts that people would need.

Only if it's worth it you and you have a ton of money to spend on a car that won't be worth a fraction of what you end up spending when you're all done.
