the walker radiator is spendy. I have had alot of success with northern aluminum radiators. they're avalible through just about anyone who sells arrowspeed equipment, and usually run around 250 bucks. (which is close to the price of a big br*** one.)
they come with or without trans coolers, and have a billet neck (which is actually a good thing, cause the stamped aluminum necks wear out pretty quick.) the mouting brackets top and bottom are oversized, so mounting is easy. good product!
I would reccomend an aftermarket ****** cooler and buy the radiator without-it makes for a cleaner look, and makes building/adapting a fan shroud about 50 million times easier. pretty much let them know what length and width you need, and 90 percent of the time, they have one built in that size,on the shelf and ready to go.

on the column, it is easier than you think. one of the major advantages of mustang 2 is rack and pinion steering. but, I am gonna ***ume that your column is facing about30 degrees in the wrong damn direction.

what I did last time made it easy, easy, easy.

step 1. make sure the coulmn (stocker) is where it is supposed to live-up down, side to side, the works. box bolted in place and all.

#2 mark on the tube where the firewall is, with a scribe or other implement of scratcy.
#3 pull the steering wheel back off and remove the whole works.
#4-fire up the chopsaw! you are going to cut the box off as close to the very end of the tube as you can-inner shaft and all.
#5-pull the shaft out of the tube-it should be very easy now that there is nothing holding the box side together. make sure you catch the bearings and collars on the "top" side as they come out.
#6-take the outer tube back over to the chopsaw. find a comfy spot to cut it at-about 1 to 2 inches OUT from where you marked the firewall. (out as towards the box and engine compartment.)
#7 here's where the trickery comes in. you will need to go down to your local bearing supply house. you are looking for a roller style bearing with the same INSIDE diameter as the OUTSIDE of your steering staft, and the same OUTSIDE diameter as the INSIDE of the tube. as long as you get a helpful schmoe, this should take about 20 minutes.
#8 you are going to make a couple of "stops" -I a peice of tape on the outside of the tube to mark with, then 3 little machine screwsto hold the bearing. ( they went just behind it) and a really basic clamp on the shaft to hold it tight.

at this point, you can re-stap the whole column. you should have 6 or 8 inches sticking out of the tube to work with. get a couple of borgeson u- joints together and mount the rack. -you are going to need to have the exhaust manifolds on to route the rest of it, but it will be a simple process of cutting and measuring to get to the rack. make sure it is supported well, and does not bind before finalizing any welds or the end angle of the column( since the box is gone, the "reveal" plate will be all that is holding it in place as of yet-but you can adjust the angle of your column later by making mounts that out the column where you want it. )

cool trick time- find some chrome tips down at the local auto zone that will slide over the column ends, and use them to mount the column-there is about a half inch of room in there, so you can screw them onto the column with a short screw and presto! a chromed out column that cost you a total of about 12 bucks (not counting the u joints.) and you get to keep the bad *** giant steering wheel in the chevy. (which means you don't have to **** around with power steering!)

  5. Nice meeting you at Columbus. I just ran across this thread, looks like a nice project. About 3 hours after I met you I sold my truck to a body shop owner in N. Carolina thats only gonna put business logo's on the doors and drive it to the Street Rod Nats in Louisville. If I can help get yours on the road this year let me know. Joe

Megan, I put one of the Summit brand universal aluminum rads. in that 57 wagon I sold in Columbus.

I couldn't get the car hot. It sat through all that crazy traffic thursday, not to mention the 177 miles there, and never peaked 185.

That's the best $160. ever spent.

    BTW, I already got rid of the 48 p/u I bought in Columbus:eek: :D

But I think you'd approve of the newest ride.

I'm going to buy another of those rads. for this car too.

Thanks for all of your help everyone. I am happy to hear all of your radiator success stories without buying an expensive radiator. I spent most of the day yesterday (yes, i picked the hottest day of the year thus far) cleaning my motor outside. It is ready for paint now. Hopefully my parts will come from Ch***is Engineering tomorrow and I can get those installed.

ChromedRat- Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that if my van column does not appear soon.

Woogeroo-Thanks for the links. I've been on the stovebolt forum before and they were not very appreciative or understanding of my Riv swap. Oh well, to each there own. I will check out the other sites though.

NickS- You are bad. And that is all I have to say about that.
(BTW-Thanks for the message about Hot Rods to Hell, I Tivo'd it. Watched part of it yesterday AM with Selden instead of Saturday morning cartoons, much better for the boy!).

Harrison- I had no idea I used those four words. Planning on heading up to Louisville this year? We need to meet up!

Keep the advice flowing and I'll keep the work moving.
    Thanks
    ChevyGirlRox : )

If I make it, it'll most likely be a one-day trip. Up there early & back home that night. :(

I'll let you know what it looks like when we get a bit closer. I'd love to catch up with you guys & see what you've been up to.

Let me know if that works out and I'll give you my cell number. We plan to be down there Wed afternoon -Sunday in FULL force with all of Matt's cars. This is the last year he can be in the vintage air show (ha ha ha) so he wants to take everything, hence the reason I won't be that upset if my truck isn't done in time.

Anytime you want! I just checked the UPS tracker and it looks like ALL of my parts on order are coming tomorrow. So I will be out there probably every night this week. Just give me a call at my office to make sure I'm going to be there (and for directions). We are trying to finish up Butch's 37 and get Matt's give away truck up to snuff to drive to Louisville. Fun times...:D

What kind of rack works with that? I've got a second one to do and I've already got the line on the disc brakes.

must 11, camaro rear, 350/350/ this is a standard combo for this truck. all the parts are real available and easy to do. of course there are many ways to go. if you stray to far from the norm it will affect resale value.

I know this board is not a big fan of late model clips, but, our 57 Chevy pickup has a late model GM clip under it with power steering, disc's. been under there going on 7 years and it drives great.

A friend of mine installed a M II under his 48 Chevy pickup and he does not like it as well as the GM clip he put under his 39 Chevy coupe.

Another friend had a M II under his 32 ford coupe by a well known shop at the time. Later, it smacked the wall at the drag strip. None of the welds broke but sure ripped the crossmember etc six ways from Sunday.

Shocking to see how thin wall the aftermarket M II stuff is

Wow, an oldy but goody :D

The truck is so close to being done it is stupid. It just needs plumbed and wired, I have all that hard stuff figured out. I got a little sidelined working on the Chevy but plan to get back to the truck as soon as the Chev is back together. Riding in Jerry's last week at the Round Up was an inspiration! :D

What's a must 11? it must be better it goes to eleven! :D As for the rest, all I really heard was "blah blah blah".. break out of the rut dude.. and the reality is that something a little better and a little different will enhance the resale value....

Not against subbing just that the Camaro seems to wide for these to me... would need am S10 style one or maybe a 80's G body...

Did he try to scare ya?

You can get an s10 rolling frame for real cheap, and all the rebuild stuff is inexpesive.

It is too standard, that is why I went with the 401 Nailhead. I have found the parts I needed at my local NAPA. I'm not so much concerned about resale value. I build cars the way I want to enjoy them!:D

I decided to keep my old frame such it was in such good shape. I did really think hard about doing the S10 swap though. Maybe next time...
