Sorry I didn't reply way back when. The valve covers are original Cal Customs from Ebay. I think I paid north of $75......... Stock 440 valve covers cleaned up and painted Hemi Orange can't be beat.
Hey, I just picked up some sweet finned covers at the swapmeet! Check em out! These will clean up real nice
All of my cars have a big block Mopars in them 46 Desoto 64 Plymouth 66 Fury wagon 70 dodge short box
I've got one in an '76 flatbed-(RV conversion) dually. That thing will hold at least 4500 lbs and pull a trailer with 3000lbs and drive better than when its unloaded. well a little slower up the hills but it goes. When I had more money i'd use it as my daily work truck, but now that gas is pricey its not used as much. The only problem was when the plastic timing gear wore out but the steel replacement was quick. I can't imagine it in a smaller hot rod you guys are nuts!! TP
I've got a few waiting...no pics though. I also have the long rams to put on something... Doliack...I will be PMing you later!! I have the optionto do something similar! Dave
dvanecek, not sure if theyre cal custom, but theyre RAD for sure!! I havent seen finned covers where the fins go down the sides like these. Too cool!!
So what kind of intake was that that you showed on the first page of this thread? Is it a home built type thing?
My '56 Plymouth wagon is getting a '69 440 that I've had for several years. It's a zero-mile rebuild that is built to stock '69 specs. Behind that will be an automatic and a set of 3.23 gears in a '66 Mopar 8-3/4" rear. My wife's '78 Chrysler New Yorker has its stock 440 in it. Yeah, i know it's non-HAMB-friendly, so what! I've got three additional 440 blocks, cranks, and quite a bit of 440 parts that I've been hanging on to forever - no, I'm not selling any of it.
how hard was it to put that 440 in your car? i have a '56 and a 440 and would like to put the two together. some say it's not an easy swap. thanks
It's not. PM me and I can give you the name of a guy in SoCal that has a 440 in his street-driven 440, and it looks like it could've been a factory install, damn near! I'm doing the same thing on my '56 wagon, but using shorty headers.
Here's a quick 15sec video of one of mine running: <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Dqma9_MlTc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Dqma9_MlTc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>
Same here. I have had a 440 in my '64 NY. Never ran till now. Engine has been taken out, heads removed and put on the engine below this pic; Here's another 440, but stroked with a 4.15" crank to 496" and fitted with a period correct intake system in the '60 NY; Currently I have a 440 at the machine shop to be decked, bored, honed and linebored. When I get it back I will be building another 496" stroker motor from it. But this one will be roller cammed and get a nice and shiny huffer on top. Not sure yet what car I'm going to put this one in.
I've got one in Azael, and I'm just starting on Psycoholic... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325512
I have a couple of 440s, and one of them is destined for my '33 chevy with a tunnel ram. I haven't even started working on the car and a couple of my friends are already pissed that I'm going to put a Mopar engine in a Chevy. Oh, the horror!
As long as the 'foreign' engine is an upgrade over the current one, it usually allright. (And with Mopar vs Chevy it usually is ) But don't you go putting Chevies in no Mopar now ya here? That would get you friends pissed even more I guess...
Yeah, I think putting a Chevy engine in a Mopar would set some people off. The Mopar crowd is a proud bunch!!
I made this top and ran it in sealed wood for a year then made the finished product. It worked good. The other is one in the works which I never finished but a fellow racer asked me about it so I dragged it out and set it on my project car so he could see. it. I also have a severley modified Team G which i raced for many years. I can picture it too if anyone wants. It has extended runners inside and raised ports on the head side almost max wedge size but for modified iron heads. Don
its not HAMB friendly..but one came in my 68 Charger..runs like a ****d ape too also have a "Muscle Motors" 440 out of Lansing Michigan ..600+H.P. on Pump gas..so they say..still sitting on an engine stand (some day it will have a home)
Don, how'd that rail get past the tech? Love that racing bucket seat... ;>))That aint my rail. That is my HEmi jeEP project which is about 20% done. I mock up everything in wood first. Yup. Even manifolds. It is a lot cheaper to correct it then then when you are working in the final tubing! This is my rail and it does p*** tech!
