Haven't you guys ever seen American Graffiti III (aka Even More American Graffiti) ?

It's when Milners illegitimate son goes street racing at Terminal Island in the baddest Maverick in the valley :)

I'm going to go to my local Walgreens, scoop them up and hide them in the womens underwear section. Little kids shouldn't be exposed to such nonsense.

    Bastards.

The old man had one in college. Said it was the worst excuse for a car he ever had. Bought it in a bind for wheels at the time.

I called him just now to laugh at him.:D

You need to realize, some people on this board grew up with cars like that. Crummy as they were, they are "old" now. They re-instill memories. And 'old' + 'memory' sells. No Idea what "American Graffiti" has to do with that, a marketing goof I suppose...

You were born in 1985. I remember new Mercury Capri's at the dealership in 1985. Pops wanted a new Grand Marquis. A 1985 McLaren Capri was the shit back then...to a kid like me...it's all about perspective.

  16. Wow don't get too serious on me boss. What does a 74' maverick have to do with American Graffiti?

Well, If anything this Maverick has inspired me to go get my copy of American Graffiti and watch it...

Probably the only time a Maverick has inspired anybody...

Perfect reason to build a 460 Maverick sleeper. To mess with guys like you... :D

Open your mind. Small car = light weight- yet accommodates a V-8 drive train...You haven't been around much, have you? These are old pics- Roush played around with them back in the 70's, even the 4 doors...look where he is today.

  21. the american graffitti advertisment is in bad taste as far as im concerned , but on the other hand there was and still is some fast mavericks around , ugly car yup! but its a light ugly car..

  22. I remember seeing big billboard ads for Mavericks for $1999.00 They were the same price as new Pintos which were also $1999.00. They were painted a really sickly looking orangish tan color and the cheap models came with 6 cylinders and ugly dog dish hub caps on too-small looking painted steel wheels. I hated the droning sound of those 6 cylinder engines in Mavericks.

Back then Mavericks kind of sucked, but when you see one now they don't seem as repulsive as they seemed back then. There's a guy in my neighborhood who has two of them set up for drag racing with tubs and slicks and they look okay actually. The earlier ones from around '70 or '71 didn't look as bad as the later ones that had huge bumpers on them.

One feature that Mavericks and Pintos had was how the window cranks would snap right off. I remember several friends with those that they couldn't roll down their windows because the handles had snapped off. One friend was always saying about his Maverick, "This things got two wheels in the grave!". ... and that was when the car was only about five years old.

American Graffiti was a 1973 interpretation of 1962, kinda like that 70s show was a 90s interpretation of the 70s (and not even close to accurate...and I was there). In the early 70s, Fast Eddie Schartman campaigned this prostock Maverick, and I saw it run a number of times. He was quite the showman.

My first car was a '76 Maverick...a metaillic turd brown one with an inline 6 cylinder engine. It had the three-quarter style vinyl top, and tan vinyl buckets which, without AC, would adhere quite readily to the skin of my legs.

I wrecked that thing 12 ways to Sunday and it still ran. It went through tires like crazy, but I drove the hell out of it.

The window cranks did snap off, but in those days you could get HELP! replacements at the drugstore that were basically the same as the originals.

The best feature was that the seats folded down all the way....yeah, all the way.

Maverick = rear end that's the right width for 50s cars.
Rode to high school in a brand new Maverick that belonged to a friend.A total piece of shit from day one..
