Anyone know where I can get pictures and procedural information on chopping a 36 ford 3 window? I would prefer a Bonneville top chop with the posts laid back as I feel that it makes the car sleeker and racier looking. Anyone able to help? Thanks

If this is your first chop I'd experiment on anything but a '36 3 window. Oh, the horror!!!!

Here is one that is racy looking...not chopped.

PLEASE know your skill level before attempting to cut a 36- 3 window...They are very difficult to get right.

    Good luck, -Abone.

Being the owner of a three window iv been studying the chops on this body for years. Iv never seen one like you describe.(laid back w/s) That is a look that’s been done on 30? to 34’s only as far as I know. But it could be a cool original thing to do.
The best chop Iv seen done was done by the Marcels? And was published in street rodder 2 or so years ago.
In my opinion anything more than three inches on 35-6 three windows kills the car, and im the guy that will chop anything earlier 5 or 6+.

Took a cl*** this summer from Gene Weinfield. We chopped a 36..3 window, took 5 inch's out of it.What a job. Looked good though. Well worth the trouble. We had to cut it length wise and width wise. Had to add 5 inchs to the length and alittle less to the width. It's not a job for the faint of heart. I have a bunch of pictures of the chop if ya like to see them.

Might as well jump in the deep end. Better to chop a 36 3window than waste time on a lesser deserving victim...

That's a tardel chop... They are often so perfect and well proportioned that your mind tricks itself into believing that Henry wanted it that way.

This looks good IMO because the door tops are still curved and not flat. They're so many that get flattened out here and look squatty. I love em chopped but don't have the cajonies to do mine.

  19. It does!

Hotrod1932, anymore pics of that 3w?

Fish's 3w has the best chop ever.

Here is another pic of mine.

Cutting straight across or dog legging it is the preference of the person doing the chop.

No more pic'. Did'nt like the chop either. It was a cluster ****. Gene Winfeild missed the boat on that one. Should of seen the owners face...WOW. To bad cause the car was right now it looks like a ****ty mailbox.

  22. Look at what Cole Foster did as well with that 5 window turned 3 window. The rodders journal had some good photos as well. To me the best 3 window chops are Cole and Collori coupes. That 5 window that I pulled out of the mountains is going to become a 3 window just need to put the 32 back on the road and then start on the 36. Will give updates as the build goes.

Except a very few chops, most chops on 35's to 40's coupes look like ****. Kieth hit the nail on the head, perfect lines , mild chop, perfect proportions. The proportions on the fat fenders are easy to wreck. The bottom is fairly big on these cars and when you make the top area too small it looks out of balance. Also the window shape is so important, which was mentioned by Irish Mike. Old Henry Ford had a very talented design team and the beautiful lines are for the most part, hard to improve upon. I know opinions are like *** holes , but thats mine.

Here are a few pics of mine before paint. This car was chopped wrong by another guy and was rescued by Jeb Scolman of Jeb's metal and Speed.

It is a difficult chop because nothing is straight and or square, like chopping a ball. Like others have said, easy to f'up on these and lots of them look a bit off.

This is difficult to explain, but to me there is too much decklid area on a 35-36 3Window. They look good chopped when viewed from the side, but as you walk around the back of the car at some point it is all *** and the top looks way out of proportion IMO. I love to see someone photoshop one and move the top back 6-8 inches and add the 6-8 inches to the hood.

I liked the article in rod and custom on your car. Would you happen too have some pics of the 2nd chop in progress when it was saved. Have you decided on a color for the car as of yet.

It's funny the things we do and don't like. That long tail is one of my favourite features on a 36-3w. I have a 5w I plan to chop when I build it one day and I've been doing sketches to try to get more of that long tail look into it.

O/T ...but anyone got any pics of well chopped 36-5Ws?

    Pete
