**** Teague's work was great but Gus Maanum was the master My Favourite pre '65 I actually did a drawing of Stu Hilborn's streamliner last night, I haven't sat down and drawn something in quite sometime.
early... A pressed tin sign from the 30s. Later Mid nineties. The race car roadster is a Deuce. Of course!
I have a bunch of Peter Helck art work.. 50's calendars all old race stuff very cool.. I have Andy Worhol's Cars poster hanging right here in the kitchen.. I HAVE BEEN CUTTING AND PASTING OLD CAR ADS TO CUSTOMIZE THEM I STARTED SO LONG AGO ... YA HAD TO ACTUALLY CUT AND PASTE WITH SCISSORS AND PASTE!
I love auto art from the teens, twenties, fifties, and early sixties. Loved the color combos used in the early works. Maanum is awsome. I have a set of his works that seems to show finer detail to the print than some of the ones shown. Wonderful lithos. Also the not as well known Jim Richards cut-away work is great. Sorry about the big pics. BR
I draw great inspiration from these guys... and all of the other great artists here on the HAMB! Barry Rowe, Hector Luis Bergandi, F. Gordon Crosby, Ken Dallison
I need this one in a much laarger format..like 5'x7'. Better yet I'll take one in full scale. Zora Ruled.
I didn't see anything about having to be auto-related so here is one loosely car-related (because it's by David Perry). Dog sleeping on a grave in Mexico.
There really is too much to choose from, in both catigories. But from this (excellent) thread, i'll take Wvenfield's pre'65 Pike and A32flathead's post'95 Surfmonkey "Bandit & Big Daddy". Both outa-sight!
Here ! here! GaryC.! I agree! Gil Elvgren is my favorite! Gil was a student of Haddon Sunblom(the Coca Cola Santa originator) He had the painterly/****er/oil technique down to a science!..... I love that whole school of thought.
pre 65: i don't know if everybody considers it art, but i do: that is the movie poster from "******", the french and aussie versions are my favorites. i also have a bunch of old pin up lithos: i have a complete set of elvgren that was pulled out of a WWII foot locker (they're framed and hang over my TV). (oh yeah and i love kidrobot toys) i also like the old detective story mags of the 40's and 50's and the campy men's adventure pulp mags of the early 60's. i have quite a collection of these also. Post 95: it is hard to pick a favorite for me. i love Tara McPherson, Sas Christian, and work by my friend Kelly Haigh. I guess i'll include some of Kelly's Work.
WAY too much great illustration from the 50's and 60's to single out, but I wanted a '62 Pontiac GP soooo bad, just from those drawings in ads. Today, my number one favorite is Tom Fritz. The paintings are magic and subjects are definately "on topic" here. In both cases the artists make you want to step right into the picture.
while on this topic: if anybody could help me with information about this american propaganda litho from WWII i would love it. I found it at a small swap meet in North Dakota about a month ago and i know nothing about it. i do not find a signature and the printer's mark obscured by dark ink and is too hard for me to read. like i alluded to above i collect old lithos, but i've not come across any american propaganda in this style before. thanks, the caption reads "to protect our way of living"
hell yea, i heart me some george petty and his tool pinups. awesome artwork here's another petty girl, i'd put this at around 42 or 43, someone correct me if i'm wrong... then a current work from our own B***.
