...ha ha ha. i kid. i know what it is. it's a Hossfeld number 2 bender mounted to a wheeled base of 3/4" steel. works like a champ and came with a bunch of dies. i made an offer and the guy said "get it outa my garage". so i did! :D
and to think, just the night before i was tellin Duece Pheaton and GMgrunt i did'nt like them anymore because of the killer deals they had each gotten on some stuff i wish i owned. :D GMgrunt did graciously offer to "store" this for me in his shop since i'm a tad more limited on space than he is. helluva a guy ain't he. ;)

i know this is gonna make me sick but lets hear about the killer deals you guys have gotten for under a hundred clams. i suppose we can count freebies too, since zero IS less than a hundred.

Got this a couple weeks ago for the low low price of FREE. Had to have it flatbedded out to SoCal from Vegas though. No rust. Big plans. Going to haul my crap to shows in it. I plan to park it in my space and maybe sell right out of it without unloading much. Already have it at my friends chassis shop, but all the mods won't necessarily be HAMB friendly. Should have it on the road in a couple months, then go for body and paint. Interior last, but fully expect this will be a finished van. The van of all scooby doo vans in fact. OK....maybe not.....but still.

SWEET van. been wanting a 65(ish) no window shorty Ford van for a long time.

the bender base has a cabinet that attached where the cylinder is laying and it holds all the dies. it did'nt get fully done being sandblasted today so i'll have to go finish it tomorrow and paint it up. gotta make doors for it too. i've been "restoring" this bender for the past few days. it takes longer than you would think. i blasted all the dies and every part i could fit in the blast canbinet. the rest got done in the blastin barn with the big blaster at my buddy's place (MASTER BLASTERS here in Charlotte).

oh the things i'm gonna build with this thing. :D

I once got a free stand up piano from the recycler.. i played that piano for years till I eventually didn't have the room and had to get rid of it.. oh well.. i've gotten some pretty cool freebie stuff from family for my cars.. but that always comes back to bite you when they ask for favors.. so maybe they weren't the best deals..

I play upright bass, a restaurant owner acquaintance gave me a bass that had hung on the wall of his restaurant for years. Cleaned it up, sold it for $1800, bought a snow blower and air compressor.

I can't tell about the free stuff because I have sold some of it here. Well ok, one story, back in the late 80s I had a customer give me a 62 Chevy II 2 door, 4 bager with posi. I drove the crap out of that little car for about a year and sold it. It was also the only car I ever had stolen.

Got a free '53 Desoto Powermaster 4-door from a buddy at the scrapyard last year. Good grille and all. Body was shot, but was able to save the grille, all the stainless, most of the windows, taillights, rear decklid, dash, seats, + I still have the shell to take back and scrap whenever I'm done parting it. The only drawback was no Hemi only the straight 6 spitfire motor. Guess my luck just sucks......Sheesh!

Got a '63 Nova convertible for free, all apart, no interior/drivetrain, but sold it sans title for a grand 2 weeks later.

I won't mention that the 2-hour trailering to fetch it resulted in a rebuilt truck tranny 6 months later to the tune of $1200...

Im kinda good at this stuff. (Knock on wood)

Lets see...a guy around the corner had 2 Oldsmobiles 98s...the ones you use for Merc swaps. Got those for a hundred bucks. Oh, and he threw in a low mileage ALL original 67 Nova 2 dr ht that needed resto. 235/3spd/factory posi 3.23 rear. Thru trade of a 41 Plymouth I had gotten from an ex I got a basically complete 49 Mercury 4 dr. Got a 49-51 Mercury Monterey accessory wheel complete and in nice shape for $30 at a garage sale. Got a 60 Plymouth 4 dr for $200. That car was cool.
Free air compressor, tire machine, workbenches. I got 2 shoeboxes around the $100 mark. Wait no 3. 2 @ $200 and one @ $100. Bunch of other shit Im sure.

In college my buddy's parents gave me a '64 4 door Galaxie. She was rough but run like raped ape. They said he couldn't have it because he already had about 20 cars.

I drove it for 2 years and my brother used it to deliver pizza. One night it was snowing like hell and he was fighting to get it home. He blew a freeze plug in the block. I bought one of the compression types, stuffed it in, drove it for a bit and traded it to guy for an AMC 360 Police Interceptor that I put in my Jeep.

    Still miss that old Gal.

Let's see... my first car, a 76 Datsun, my second car, a 69 Pontiac, both FREE.

    A 308 straight 6 out of a Hornet for $100 even

2x 1953 Desoto Firedome Hemis for FREE if I can ever get them out of the woods

A 39 Buick Sport Coupe body (rough) donated as a starter for a vintage stock car

And last weekend a fellow HAMBer and I picked up a 54 Chevy truck for $200, split it 50/50, I'm taking the chassis and he gets the rest.

Got a '29 Star body and a set of A rails for 100 bucks

  26. Bought a 51 Merc coupe from an old guy a few years ago....100 bucks. Its rough but complete. The best part of the deal came when I went to pick it up and the guy told me he had a buch of "spare" parts that went with it....rebuilt control arms and front brakes, painted dash, extra gauge cluster, stainless grille, extra rear-end and springs, fiberglass skirts, spare steering wheel, a hubcap, and the title of course. He had a PERFECT primered spare decklid for it also....I had to give him 40 bucks for that though! I got fucked.....at least the ole Merc has an overdrive in it. :)

the 49' Ford tudor i have the guy pestered me for 6 months to get out of his yard. a really nice body on rolling chassis with just a little rust out in the front pans an easy fix. so since it was free i decided i needed to chop it and now im fixing to start getting it ready for the road. i also had a customer who gave me an offy 2X4 intake for a 348/409 that was near mint. and i know its O/T as such but when i got out of high school i bought a 1 owner 73 Dodge Dart Swinger, sublime green, slant 6, auto,a/c, p/s, 38,000 original miles for $350 drove it forever it seemed and made a mint off of it when i sold it. i really wish i still had that for my daily it got killer gas mileage and looked like a new one at that.

Original Thickstun PM-7 with original red paint for $35.

How about Tommy Thickstun's first generation hirise (pre PM-7) for $25?

Six old Halibrands (some smoothies) for $300. ($50 per wheel)

Old chrome '32 heavy I-beam for $100. (OK, how about $99.99?)

NOS (not Coker) Firestone ribbed sprint tire for $35.

Granted, some of these were a decade ago, but some of them were LAST YEAR!

Both pop machines, $100 for the pair. Both fully functional and they are both early-mid 60s machines.
