First off it doesn't have to be a driver error roll over does it? A roll over is a roll over. ;)

Statistic would prove that you are far more likely to have a fender bender or other type of accident rather then a rollover and a person is much more likely to retain control of the car if their butt is planted firmly in the drivers seat by a seatbelt. Anyone who thinks they can hang on to the steering wheel and keep control is just fooling themselves.

I watched Rich from Pure Hell fame, who can drive the shit outta just about any car, forget to put his seatbelt on, go down the dragstrip, car started to slide, he started to slide across the seat toward the passenger door, which popped open and Rich in the car was heading straight for JimA! Lucky for everyone he was able to stop the car and no one got hurt. My point is, if Rich would have had his seatbelt on he would have been able to control his roadster better. Honest mistake.

Megan got lucky when her T-bucket flipped on the highway going 70MPH. If she would have landed on the asphalt inside the the soft brush on teh side of the road, she would have been dead. No if, ands or butts about it.

I'll wear my seatbelt still, thanks very much;)

It's Ok if you wear a seat belt, as long as you don't wear your top !:D

the only thing i dont want to be belted on to is a Motorcycle..but up here in Michigan they Force us to wear Brain Buckets so thats good enough.

  5. Yikes.

Glad to hear the fella is in stable condition. Good thing (in this case) he didn't have a seatbelt on.

The car looks fixable. hell, it's a thousand times nicer than my 3 window at the moment.

Wow Denise that's messed up! Roll bars and seat belts anyone? The seatbelt issue has good points on both sides. I've always believed that converts or roadsters need a roll bar ever since I saw a Chysler convert flip on its top on the cause way. There was about 5 inches to get out from under it. Those people lived amazingly. Anyway, maybe he didn't know how to drive a traditional roadster and took it for granted.

I sit pretty high up in my A roadster, and you do think about these morbid things as your flying down the road. (the car has aircraft seatbelts, BTW.)

In my "slow motion dream roll over scenario", I duck my upper body down below the dash, while belted in, and pop up when the car lands upright after a few rolls.

    Hey, its my dream, alright?

  9. I did'nt mean to sound like a jerk, you are right, if you roll a hotrod 'cause you were doing doughnuts or someone runs you off the road it still sucks the same amount. I will allways wear seatbelts topless or not. And I allways encourage shirtless driving in topless cars.:D

  10. Speaking of beating a dead horse............I'll bet he could have saved it if he had radials!!!:D:D:D

By the way, I've worn my seat belt in my roadster every mile I've ever put on it. It's usually the other guy you have to look out for anyway.

  14. Cages in roadsters are typically hideous looking... but this thread showing the outcome of a crash with a rollover may give credence to actually having one.

In this thread by Chopperman http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243757 I asked about the possibility of building a "street cage" for a Model A and doodled a quick picture... maybe a pair of taller halo's like a Jeep needs to be added?

It'll be interesting to hear the owners account of the crash. I would like to know if it was in fact tire related, suspension related or just plain old driving error and poor judgement. It's actually very difficult to flip a car over on pavement... but once you are off the tarmac it's a whole 'nother story folks. I'm just glad the guys o.k.

What a shame! Car is rebuildable and it sounds like the driver will recover. Would like to know the cause.

i really dont see that being a problem, look how many people can manage to roll new cars with radials on them. ive been driving my 34 pickup for close to 7 years with B.P.'s on it and it handles fine, i use to drive a busy 40 mph 4 lane road every day to work and have had to test the brakes (40 ford) and its handling many times.

  17. I understand that Firestone made a radial that was great for rollovers!

Good to read driver's being OK. I hope someone's posting the cause. The car will be rebuilt for sure, not too many such roadsters in Norway.

And I know a few local lawyers that made a bundle from it. Of course one of the fine gentlemen is in Federal prison for bribing judges.

When I drive my roadster, my visual radar is on high, l'm scanning for potential idiots with cellphones, and I drive it like a granny if i'm in traffic.

And their main problem was not enough air in them. The general public has no idea that air pressure in their tires should be checked monthly, or for that matter that they should maintain anything on their vehicle. I am totally amazed when I follow some idiot driving on an almost flat tire!

Maybe roadsters need an ejection seat like a fighter jet. That way, you're belted in, but still get shot outta there if something goes wrong.:D

  24. Best wishes to him... And of course, to his car!

Have never really thought 'bout it before now - maybe one (me) should build a cage for the tudor???

I'm glad the dudes gonna be okay...His statement that "they" don't have restrictions over there (to that effect ) concerens me deeply....At first it seemed that foreign buyers were buying form us almost at list pricing now I see them going for the jugglar in price....Now they may be become sueing us if our cars don't comply to there entry stats....My last car went to NewZealand...Pretty well stock 46 cpe so the only liabilty would have been our Dear friend HENRY....Think "AFORE" ya sell and and sell at your highest to other lands as your small sale price may not be worth it....CJ.

  26. Don't think, you can generalice like that - people know, what they are buying, og mostly it's how it's being driven, that's the problem - not the car...
Know of alot US-imports in DK, just standing in workshops, being rebuild to match the strickter demands of veihicels in DK, and see the same with swedish cars...

Hey, don't worry about us suing your arse.

Before an imported car gets registered in New Zealand, it has to go through a pretty tough safety inspection which is signed off by a local inspector. If it is modified, it also has to have the modifications certified by a different guy.

And when you get through all that, all cars on the road here get a regular six monthly "warrant of fitness" check as well.
