Well, that's is the unfortunate problem for sure. Luckily I have a real good independent fasteners shop across the street from me that has been there for a long time and they know their stuff inside and out. I hope they can stay in business for a while. I try to go there whenever I can to support them. But they aren't open on Sat. and Sundays and only 9-5 on weekdays. They are old school, down to the hours as well.

Austin Bolt is a good shop. Take 'em back and Mary will exchange them for Grade 8's or star washers I'll bet

To late to stop them now we don't make hardly anything anymore. They are into us too deep. When they put antifreeze in our toothpaste what would they do to our nuts and bolts?

    We got "sold out".

Our buying power is being used against us,
and the people making the decisions
are not the ones paying the price.

:DYou have GOT to be kidding! I bought a couple hole saws from them about two months ago and the damn bit broke off! It hadn't even reached the point of cutting the hole and this was in 3/16" FIBERGLASS! Guy said he guaranteed it was the good stuff. I made him give me my money back instead of a swap.

These stretched and distorted, because they are too soft.
    Definitely not brittle.

Most likely the wrong material,and/or not heat treated.
    And no quality control.

Cheap, ungraded, flat washers are made from soft crap,so they probably ran the same material through the lock washer die.

I had the great pleasure of buying some Made In USA line wrenches yesterday at Carlisle.S-K and Blackhawk were present and the price was great.
It gave me a good feeling to know I got quality.
The good stuff is out there,we gotta hunt for it?

Why do you think scrap is so high? The chinese need our steel so they can make this cheap crap to sell back to us.

Maybe I missed the mention of it, but did you get them from Austin Bolt Co on Rutland Dr? If so I'll steer clear of them from now on or specify for stuff made in the US.

On the same note. There's a lot of "Made in U.S.A" stickers on stuff, but in really small print, "by parts manufactured in China". Ya gotta READ the labels close!

You actually tightened 77 of those things?!!! I would have stopped at about 5. I buy my bolts from a little local hardware store. I'd rather support them than lowe's or home depot.

This I swear to be true;here's my experience at a local Fastenal store.I run a shop that specializes in Infiniti and Nissan repair. One day we have an issue with a threaded hole, the hole is recessed ,so I'm going to have to weld a tap to a bolt.I decide to drive around the corner to the local Fastenal to pick up a tap to modify. When I walk in,I see one new face behind the counter and no one else. The guy looks like the resident golf pro at a country club..you know the type,hi dollar knit sport shirt with a collar, nicely pressed khaki slacks and a set o shades on a lanyard.I ask the guy.."you got any metric taps?"He goes ,"whaddya mean..taps?"I said,"you know..to cut threads".He replies "Whaddya mean threads ?"I'm now starting to get exasperated..then he says "it's only my second day here".I'm thinking Christ..if it was your second day a McDonalds you would certainly know that a quarter pounder is made from some poor cow.It turns out that the guy's manager was on the phone in his office,at this point he gets off the phone and mr. mechanical whiz yells over to him "hey! do we have any taps?"mr. manager (another unfamiliar face) yells back "tacks?"The whiz replies "no Taps!"Well this starts a volley back and forth between these two mechanical geniuses..that rivals a Laurel and Hardy routine..finally they decide that they don't have what I need.I say thanks and I leave pissed:mad:.A couple of days later,I go back to the same store reluctantly in search of some 10mm flat washers.I try to find them ,as I am looking ,the golf pro comes up and asks if he can help me.I tell him what I need and he goes "I think that we have to special order those."No sooner than he tells me that,I look down at the shelf in front of me and there is a bin full of bagged 10mm flat washers.I pick up one of the bags and inside are the flimsiest looking washers, and stamped on the bag is...you guessed it "MADE IN CHINA".Now I'm really pissed:mad:,not only are the people in the store incompetent, but they are selling junk at the same price of quality U.S. hardware.I left in a huff vowing to never return to this store again.I returned to my shop and phone ordered a restock of all my hardware from Sosmetal in Philadelphia.I've dealt with them before and have been very satisfied with their pricing , service and quality.
Undoubtedly there are some good Fastenal stores out there,I wish that my neighborhood store was one of them..

That's what we get for going to China and saying "Make this Shit Cheap". They're laughing thier scrawny asses off while they're unloading boatloads of our money. Most of the shit they make is counterfiet. We're paying them our hard earned money to Fuck Us
in the Ass. Someone ought to call the Law!!! LOL

I suspect they will sell a franchise to almost anyone,
even Golf Pros and burger flippers.

A few weeks ago,I was looking for some oddball fasteners,
and McMaster Carr won't ship to Canada .I went to
several different industrial supply places, nobody knew
    what I was talking about.That isn't too unusual,but the
only one that would bother to actually look in the catalog
was a lady at Fastenal. No idea where the parts came from,
but they did the job,and I've bought more since then.
