  2. HA wipe your ass harder 15post New guy, pull on your big girl skirt and dont get offended by my pretty darn neutral comment. This is a "Traditional" board and there are many people out there who belive that "rust is not traditional,' or at least that rust should not be embraced. I dont care to take a side and Yeah its called jalopy, but uh... they aint all jalopys.

anyone who goes out of his way to diss another is the real looser...to bitch about the rides on one post and then come back for popcorn on another means you are here for the drama..not the cars ....go get life bitch...or start watchin soap operas...i can't belive ive even participated in this shit ...it seems like every second thread is about this is better than that...the internet narrows the spectrum of enthusiasts...you can find rat sites, trad sites, street sites...anything you want...seems to me that if you can't get along with guys with such similar intrests, or feel the need to be an internet cop...you may need some counsuling ...personaly i feel sorry for the people you deal with in real life...

    Ooletwah Speed Shop-

Thank you for posting the pictures of the show. It's so great that I can come online and see pictures of shows from across the nation, because with my budget I just simply can't afford to travel to TN from Wisconsin....Just ain't happening. Looking through them, there are a lot of cool cars, and there are a lot of cars there that are rather radical, and don't fit my taste. But I know what kind of work goes in to any vehicle, and I could never put someone down for working their ass off for what makes them happy. Fella's this was a picture thread. And I know how the majority is touchy about the *whispers* "rat rod" term around here, but the HAMB is about spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to hoodlums world wide, not bashing it into them with your 1 1/8" combination wrench... :D

Just the ramblings of an FNG, Take it as you would a grain of salt...

When the term was "created" it was often in reference to primered HOT RODs and customs that were invading the shiny scene... like these:

and it was never a proud term..... ten years later the "Rat Rod" is a whole different animal and Tennessee is proof. I'm sure the people are nice, and the event was fun, but it looks like the OSR Rat Rod nationals. It is what it is...
And, for the record, I've never owned a mini truck. :D

For the "rat rod" defenders, help me understand something. I'm not trying to berate or put down with the question and I really do want to understand the rationale/reasoning. Some of these cars have been defended because it's a "build on a budget" idea. Yeah, I understand that process and it fits with the traditional hot rodder who used what he could to go fast.

so, explain to me how a guy can afford a hemi and blower but can't afford a couple quarts of paint and some metalwork. And why put a $7-8000 motor in something you won't protect from the elements and is rusting out from under the motor. Help me understand the mentality.

  15. Yes.

In my opinion simply stated a line has been drawn between guys who only have their rod as far along as money will take them VS the guys who do not ASPIRE or even try to have their rod be anything more than rust. no cash vs no class.
Personally my rods at this stage in the build probably fall into rat catagories, however my grand plan for them is way way more than that. to me that is the difference.

i am born and raised in tennessee, and we are being inundated by people from such places as california. i assume that they are probably trying to escape the standard west coast elitism you project. i do not own a rat rod, but i am all for having a good time. i didnt go to the show but if those who did had a great time, then thats all that matters, we need more good times. Whether or not you are looking at rat rods on a drag strip or watching a monkey eating gravel, either way fuck it lets do it

  20. I knew a girl once who had a gravel-eating monkey....

  21. If a 89 Ranger is a mini-truck? I'm guilty.

So let's all take the tour... have a laugh or two at someone else's expense... make mean-spirited remarks... walk away feeling superior in many "traditional" respects... because The "Rulers" of the automotive world have spoken!

I love to look at the pics from whatever event, from whomever and wherever.

It's my mental vacation after a long day in the shop.

    SO THANKS FOR SHARING YOURS.

Looks like this guy's having A LOT of FUN!!!

Where I come from...I do this for fun, it gives me something to do and ALOT to learn. One day I hope to know my ass from a hole in the ground...but until then I'm having fun. Once I know something, then I'll start being a jaded "traditionalist" and spreading my opinion like the Gospel!!!

Is this whole argument about rust? Paint? Bodywork? Making your own parts? Getting off on making an enjoyable ride? Calling it a Rat? Primer? Whidewhitewalls? Red rims? Pinstriping? Cars? 'Ole ladies? Girlfriends? Drag racing? Categories? Sub-categories? Pompadours? Tattoos? Levi's? Wingtips? Elvis? Ricky Nelson? Buddy Holly? Peggy Sue? Rock-a-billy?

Does any of this argument even have to do with cars? I'm confused? What's the problem? Call your car whatever you want, I'll call mine what I want to call it!!! And I won't insult your taste or craftsmenship by calling yours anything other than a CAR!!!

  25. Yep, my car is in a garage, that's usually where you work on them when it's 370 below zero. The fucker will stay in the garage until I can pull it out without someone saying "look a rat rod!" I'm sure there were some fine cars there, I just didn't see many in those pictures. I get on the HAMB so I don't have to look at cars like that. Also, mini-trucks have always made me want to fucking barf. Thanks.

Don't be confused. Go to the stickies and read what this site is about. Or, you can do a search for "traditional" and read the definition as clearly stated by the owner which was posted just last week. Being a "traditionalist" is a huge part of it (and personally I find your putting it down offensive).

Having FUN? Crack whoes have FUN. Top fuel dragsters are FUN! $100,000 street rods are FUN! 70's musclecars are very FUN! Ricer modifications are FUN! Low rider art trucks are FUN! While all of the above are fun, they don't belong here.

And, since by your own admission, you "don't know shit", I have to ask are you building a car/cars? If yes, WHY in God's name? Are you trying to kill yourself or just kill others? Building/redoing/restoring a car...a driven vehicle and weapon...is not something that should be done by people who "don't know shit."

Ooletwah Speed Shop, I am soooo sorry !!! You started a pic thread and I saw that you had a great time and posted pics of cars that were there and some of them I am sure you liked. I for one enjoyed your pics !!! I like what looks cool to me.

When I saw that a couple "Forum Nazi's" on your thread making stupid remarks about the pictures you took of cars you liked and trying to make you feel bad for trying to share them, I had to stick up for your right to enjoy what you enjoy. And your right to share your enjoyment of cars without being criticized. I am sorry about all the drama from people that keep stepping on your pic thread. They keep trying to defend their reasoning for making rude comments about other peoples cars or what people choose to do with them. I can only hope that the memories of this thread doesn't ruin your next car show.

Please keep posting pictures no matter what. There are a bunch of us who will look at them and like them.

First: Let me say that I never meant to offend you... We all love traditional cars, and that's why we're here. YES it is FUN!!! And YES I am working on a car...and I'm sure you remember learning too...right? "not knowing my ass from a hole in the ground" is a little slice of reality along side a heaping helping of humble pie...you should try some?

Following your instructions...I asked Ryan to please point me towards his definiton of "traditional"...and this is what I got back:

"I've got no idea what your buddies were talking about, but maybe this?"

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=297

I understand what this forum is about, and that's why I am here...but putting people down and hiding behind traditionalism isn't all that acceptable in my book. This WAS a thread about a really great weekend of fast cars and cool rides, but apparently there were only a few of us who could enjoy the pics.

Why the need to respond negatively to someone sharing such cool pics?

Ooletwah Speed Shop- Great thread, and awesome pics!!! Keep 'em coming
