33 dodge pickup, ideas, parts, pics, etc

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rodwerkz, Sep 14, 2006.

  1. This spring i picked up a 33 dodge dump. I've pulled the cab, hood and grill and i'm going to build myself an open wheel pu out of them (bobber or ruddy style as they are now called). Hell I need something to keep me busy this winter now that the T is done.
First off i'd love to see some pics of 30's dodge pu's that have been hotrodded.
Secondly i'm starting to look body parts as well as "historic documents", any ideas what years share the same body style. I'm pretty sure 34's are the same, or very similar.

  4. You've got a lot more to start with than me!I'm starting with a rusty cowl from one car, a windshield section from another, and two seperate doors!

There are a few other '33-'34s in there too. I belive '33-'34 cars and '33-early '35 trucks are the same, incl. Chrysler, Desoto, Dodge, and Plymouth.
Chaz is the only other truck I can remember seeing, but I've seen several coupes, they look sweet! Here's some patch panel links, looks like you may need them. I've talked to this guy personally, his name's Floyd. I'll be ordering from him soon.

These people have higher prices, but offer some stuff Floyd hasn't got yet.

  5. Looks like i've got alot but she's rough. The bottom 2" of truck (including subrails) stayed with the frame when i attempted to lift the cowl :)... luckily it's mostly flat panels which are shot so i'm not worried about refabricating. The real challenge will be the doors since the lower inner panel on one door is half gone.. Should be fun, luckily i'm not scared of fabrication.

Thanks for the links and feedback...keep it comming

  6. wow - the price on those cowl panels is steep.. guess i'll be trying to fab my own... maybe it will justify me buying a shrinker/stretcher :)

I've done a few 34 dodge PU over the years.
I had a pair at one time, one was red(witha 318) and one was candy red with a chopped top(with a 440), I also built one for my niece that was also chopped(360 in it).
I am doing a roadster PU that started out as a regular PU.(it will have a 440 in it too)
here are the pics of them.

Man, I absolutely love those factory suicide door 33-34' Dodge cabs. Isn't a 35' the same cab except it has doors swinging NONsuicide style? Every time I see one they are $$$$ and I thought 32-34' Ford cabs are getting pricey.

The 35 cabs are very different from the 33-34 cabs, the 35 has a filled top and it is more rounded and the front of the door is straight down not angled like the 33-34 doors. Ron...

  14. Damn, Ron, you have had some nice shit! But I must correct you, EARLY '35 trucks had the same suicide style doors as '33-'34 cars, late '35 is like the one above.

    thanks Richard.
now I'am not 100% positive but I believe that the smaller trucks were regular doors and the 1 1/2 ton and larger ones were the ones with suicide doors in 35, not early and late, but I could be wrong:confused: Ron....

  16. I was told my cowl (that's all I started with) was an early '35 pickup, but I just call it a '34 to avoid confusion.

  17. Sorry to report that I've been so busy with fabrication jobs and finishing touches on my T i haven't had much progress.

I've done tons of parts collecting in the meantime though.. Scored a low mileage 500 caddy, 40 ford front end, and a 12 bolt to be hung with a 42 ford spring... also a 2002 bmw steering box to do cowl steering.

I hope to be back to it within the next month or so. My two year old is obsessed with it and plays in it every time i open the shop door. he keeps me when we can fix "mater tow-truck"..

    Good luck with yours!

I am working on one now. I've found parts very hard to find. Grab everything you can.

  19. that's a great truck.. i remember checking out some of your initial posts.. your chassis work is sick..

your right, parts are really scarce. The only repro parts available are the cowl patches.. I've already made the bucks for doorskins and i'm going to end up making all the lower structual bits of the door from scratch for the passenger side. i'm also going to have to make bead roller dies to make the lower beauty line on the cab.. but alas the truck was free so i can't complain..

33, 34 dodge cabs are sweet. There is a difference between 33 and 34, early 35. The difference can be seen in the angle of the front of the door. 33's were one straight line all the way up the front of the door, 34's and early 35's were a combo of two different lines. Kind of confusing to explain. Here are some pics of my dads 34 fourdoor dodge made into a twodoor.

  25. Dogman, welcome to the HAMB but please put the "Text Message" stuff down, and type full words so we can better understand you.

  26. When cobbling together my roadster pickup body, I was able to fit '33 left and a '34 right(or was it the other way around?)car doors to an early '35 Dodge truck cowl; the windshield had been cut off, but I could still tell the windshield was steeper. To avoid confusion I just call it a '34 Plymouth.

Not sure if this will help or not, but here's my late fathers '35 Dodge pickup that was built in the mid-60's with a 425 Buick nailhead...sits the same today, unchanged. (except for the Torque Thrusts in this photo - which have since been changed to back to steelies)
