I just bought two 27'' smithys for my stock 350sbc and should have them in tonight. I to am looking for the 50's mellow tone.

  2. No mufflers on my Nailhead. 1 5/8" dia. 84"long Lakes pipes. Not too bad, until I jump on it. Then it raps!

I have the Cherry Bombs on my F100 with a 289. Doesn't sound too bad but I would go with Smithy's instead. I'm swapping mine out soon.

I gotta jump on the bandwagon for Brockman Mellowtones. Brock is a Kustom guy from way back. He makes them himself. He'll make them in different lengths (12" to 48"?) for you, with either glass, steel or no packing inside them. He does them with a special "twist" that makes them sound SOOOOOO good!

I just ordered my Brockman Mellowtones. Brock is a great guy to talk to, really takes the time. I told him what kind of sound I wanted, the engine and on what car - his answer was 22" steel paks. Can't wait!

Are the blue 'WALKER - CONTINENTAL' mufflers still available?
i see alot of rods built in the 60s-70s still have these mufflers on them & they are still blue. -

blue continentals were put on my nomad sometime in the early 70s & i left them on & they are still blue & deep -not annoying yet.

What he said! Put steelpacks on grandsons 289 Galaxie and sounds so sweet. The steelpacks will retain their sound longer than the glasspacks.

I have the shorty Cherry Bombs behind my 250 straight 6 w/ stovebolt headers and 2.5" out to the rear bumper. Mellow cruise and mellow idle but look out when you rap it out. Could be a potential window breaker. FUN!

I have run a pair of Brockman Mellowtones steel packs on my 49 Olds for 20 years and thay are still good. I went through 3 pairs of Smithy's in 6 year on my 48 chevy 6 cyl. I will only use Brockmans from now on.

  20. My favorite is whatever sounds the best. What I'm saying is, any certain muffler will not sound the same on every car. Example, a few years ago a guy pays me to install a small block Chevy in his car that he bought from a friend. He leaves my shop to get a new exhaust system. For now, forget which mufflers he chose, but they sounded like shit. My neighbor at my shop complex came to me after the guy left, and said that's the worst sounding exhaust he'd ever heard. Well, a week later he scatters that motor, and pays me to build him something with a little balls. I do, and with that same exhaust, that thing just sang. Me and my neighbor were stunned at the difference in sound between the 2 motors through the same exhaust system

  21. STEELPACKS.....only way to go....Whatever brand.....
Smittys in the fifties were steel pack...not anymore..
The best ones from the fifties do not exist anymore...DOUGLASS..PORTER.
    were the ones everyone wanted

Got 18" Cherry Bombs on the Y-block in my truck. 1 7/8" pipe, mufflers all the way forward, and pipes straight out under the bumper. Nice & rumbly from inside, and an awesome rap outside.

They are all steel, and about 3 to 3 1/2 inches around, and are steel packed with steel shavings and the center section is a garage door spring. :) They sound F'n Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee The set I have I have had for almost 20 yrs and never installed them.
