I just sold a 67 Lincoln 2 door for $400.00. it was pretty well smashed in the front already, but the rest was in pretty good shape. it was going to the derby.

it's ****ed up but what can you do? just sold a 72 ford truck for $100.00. the guy siad he needed it for parts but I'm pretty sure it was going straight to the s**** yard.

when I win 40 million in the lotto I'm going to go around and save all these cars that are not worth anything so future generations have something to play with.

I hate to see any decent car be destroyed.... We demoed a '80s Caprice wagon last summer with low miles and great shape... At some same event there was a guy with a '67 Wildcat HT that was pretty damn decent.... I watched a guy do a '53 Chevy sedan a few years ago... He said it was his parts car and was really, really rusty....

I think we are doing an '81 Malibu this year.. Got it for $25 bucks.

There was some dweeb in high school whose Grandmother gave him a cherry, and I mean perfect late fourties car, can't remember what it was exactly, but it was big, grey, and perfect; like a restored original, except this was a perfect survivor. He drove it for a couple of months and then derby'd it!! 35 years ago and it still makes me mad enough to spit.

I've seen a 65 Impala and a 58 Caddy in the past few years. Alot of Kentucky natives around these parts. They seem to just have old iron laying around waiting to be smashed up.

Way back when the square T-Birds ('58-'60) were used allot because of the big front and rear bumpers.... kind of makes me sick thinking about it now.
A few years ago there was a derby in Santa Maria at the fair grounds and somebody drove a clean '59 Ford 2 door sedan, I said what shame and the guy I was with said oh it's just and old car...who cares!
I did crew on a '64 Merc 4 door at the SM fairgrounds derby.... I'm so embarr***ed about that now!

some of that stuff makes me sick..although im entering in my local demo derby im not smashin up cars like that...for people that do demos the key is to get a car with a good frame...thick beefy frame with no rust is what you need..and ofcourse somethin with a decent size trunk and frontend...they are fun but i would never do one in like a nomad..thats just sick!

The guy I work with took two 68 4 door lincoln conts. like mine (VERY VERY NICE shape from Texas with NO rust and all original). He gutted them, threw a SBC in it (9 inches back) and derbied (sp) them. He wanted my perfectly 70,000 original miled 68 Cont 2 dr. to derby. I told him he is crazy and I wouldn't ever sell it to him to ruin the perfect car.
I guess they are good to derby but not a perfect nice one.

I think the days are gone where you will see anything GOOD get smashed up..are there any mid to late 70s early 80s boats that are worth a damn? my wife drives a 75 Cougar XR7 I doubt if you will even see anything like that out there..I loved the Demo Derbys and don't regret smashing up big 4D 72 Olds and Ford wagons..my favorite was a 77 Cadillac 4D, when will those ever be valuable?..I did smash up a 4D 71 Nova in a sack race, anybody ever done that? The driver has a sack over his head and the p***enger is telling him where to go! they send the cars around in twos...OK now start turning a little to the left, left, LEFT DAMMIT, Shiiiiiit, WHAM..its loads of fun....

I just think the whole derby thing is for uneducated, no teeth-havin, backwoods readnecks, who are to stupid to do anything intelligent.

    Just my opinion.

  14. The way to win at derby is to turn the rearend upside down. that way you have three speeds in reverse. You can run them down in second reverse and they definately know it when you hit them. Also run a dummy radiator up front put the working one in the trunk and use electric fans and use exahust pipe to route the coolant. OldWolf

Aparrently Lincolns have quite a history in the demo world. I bought a grille for my 37 Zephyr on ebay - the bars were all perfect, but it had been cut out of the car with a torch. The guy's Grandfather used to demo Zephyrs because they were the toughest thing out there at the time.

A buddy of mine demos lincolns. He is an evil son of a ***** car killer.....

Just kidding. He uses field cars - you know the kind that bring $500 at the crusher today. Let's see, win 2 derbies, pocket a grand and the car still brings $400 for scap. Them there rednekks maybee aint so stoopid!

Remember Evel's cl***ic demo derby? I remember there was a nice model A coupe, some bentlys or rolls royce cars. Just about a stupid a thing as he ever attempted.

I won a demo derby in a 77 Grenada and I am not sad at all about that, or the 75 4 door Montego, 74 LTD wagon, 75 Caddy. Not a single regret about the send off I gave those pos cars.

Suicide car in the pics is/was a T-Bird, not a Lincoln. I love the suicide door Lincolns, but I'll admit the T-Bird models were fugly.

Couple a years ago, a guy was driving a low-miles '63 Buick to the fairgrounds for the demo derby and the dynaflow ****** ****ped out. Even though all the gl*** was gone and the body was reinforced, I gave him a quick $100 for the car to get the 401 Nailhead, 45-fin aluminum brake drums, etc. Can probably s**** the rest out now for triple my investment.

when i was in high school 5 years ago the auto cl*** teacher got a hold of a 1959 and 1960 imperial. they had been sitting out in a field for year. he was just going to smash up the 59 in a derby and restore the 60 but then he just turned them both into derby cars. thats the only thing he liked to do. it wasn't really a fun cl***. destroying old cars like that.

Oh yeah there's drivers worth saving and they will sell them. here's the site: www.wecrash.com and go to the message boards. Some boards require you to login, not a painful process, but others you can just view as a guest. ENTER with caution if you have a weak stomach about seeing cl***ics crashed!! check out the general board, motorhead lounge, and cl***ifieds.

Lets see.... in the past 10 or 15 years, I have seen these derbied: a 58 Lincoln, countless 63-66 Imperials, 57 Ford, 59 Edsel, 58 Edsel, 69 Lincoln, 51 Merc with a flathead! 63 Chevy Impala, 64 and 63 Galaxies, bunches of old Caddys including a 60 flat top.....

Here's my '59 Lincoln. I've run two Suicides, a '61 and a '69. I've got a '58 Mercury I'm gonna build for next year. I've also run a ****load of mid to late sixties Imperials, mid seventies GMs including wagons, and mid to late seventies Mopars. I've destroyed more of these cars in one night than anyone could shake a stick at. BUT, I ***ure everyone, I've never wrecked anything worth saving, and I always save any salvagable parts off all this ****. In my eyes, nothing is ever wasted, and lets be serious, I would much rather see a mid-seventies Impala go to a derby than built into a donk, any day. **** it.

  26. This one is going to hurt some guys out there. Hurts me! Islip Speedway, Early-Mid Sixties.

If you want to see something really sad, watch the cl***ics that get smashed in the demo derby at the beginning of the original Love Bug movie.

  28. i one beat a derby guy bad enough to put him in the hospital for 5 days.

reason: he used a 67 Shelby gt 500 fast back (my dream car, i would kill nuns for that car) he bought it for $500 Barn fresh... right out from under me the day befor i was going to buy it, i showed up and it was gone, the owner told me who got it and why, i drove to the derby (at 120mph) to buy it from him, i had $10,00 i was willing to give him, CASH!!, got to the derby just in time to see a 77 caddy broad side it.

when i told him, he laughed in my face and called me a stupid ****ing Yankee .

almost did jail time for that, but the judge was a car guy and a mustang owner, he threw the case outta court and called the ***** redneck a few choice words.

the same thing should happen to ALL derby guys (can't call em men, cause there not)

  29. Well, the New York State Fair championship Demo Derby came down to two front-wheel-drive 2000 or so Chevy Malibu sedans. They outlasted big 70's Chryslers, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Cordobas, the 80s and 90s Crown Vics... everything else I've seen win, that should win. The backs of them were smashed into the back seat, the rear wheels weren't even turning, and they just kept going, they didn't even start to smoke and get hot until they were in the last 4 cars running. All I can figure is they're so light that when the big cars whack the front of them they just slide instead of smashing up. Once the hood was bent down over the radiator support, they just didn't bend in any more. A Monte Carlo someone else ran was the same way - he had to get in through a heat and still ran a long time in the final.

I was surprised - but also happy - maybe they'll become the new in-demand demo car, instead of the big iron. They're getting cheap enough, I could have bought a nice one at an auction a couple weeks ago for $600 or so.

  30. Ha Ha ha, yeah ****in' right. Ha ha. REAL men drive Mustangs. Ha ha. Running a Mustang in a derby is just retarded, mostly 'cause they wouldn't hold up worth a ****. In you're case I think it's great, and I would consider doing it myself if you were watching, Yankee.
