Hot Rods SUHRsc Track Roadster Update #4

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SUHRsc, Apr 29, 2008.

  1. Zach, on the lights, looking at the Ford roadster in the above pic, it could be interesting to do small cowl lamps (5") faired into the lower front clip (for aerodynamics), and a larger central light (type? commercial) behind the grill. Several cars in the thirties did this to increase their light output, racers and otherwise.

    Just a thought.

    that sure is tempting
maybe i'll make a mount and see how they look in there

i dont have much frame sticking front but i can probably just make a Y shaped arm sticking front from the crossmember
might be better to use the smaller cowl/fog/spot lights?

i'll fool with it when i get some time
thanks for all the input everyone

zach, you are a true inovator.. who'd a thought of hanging headlights on jack stands. Personally I think it's a little bulky but its your masterpiece.

Seriously.. Looks good, there would be no other place really to put them. They would look funny any higher.

  14. I realize this is Apples and Oranges but I was trying to get a period look with possibly an old time road racer effect. With my headlights [IMG]

Gotta say This looks great! I'd dig the concealed lights.
Very Auto Union. The sleekness of this one surpasses
the earlier effort which in itself was no slouch either!
Zach, your talent amazes me always!

First of all, thank you guys!

Kevin, i really don't want to make you feel awkward or anything, 'cause it also happens to me from time to time, but... it's only a photoshop... for now... maybe... hint...

Just to gives Zach a new idea to tinker with, not that i didnt like the previous one but this way he doesn't have to take 'em off.

on the mmm side, it kinda feels... you know, to make holes in such nice craftmanship. i do like it alot like this tho, my 2 cents.

    thanks 37Nash
    I do actually like that....alot!

honestly i like all the concealed ideas
my only concern is....are they "hot rod" enough?

the car is kind of a bare bones stripped down lakes roadster...more so then a street car
this is why i keep thinking it needs to have the lights just stuck on there and able to be taken off
im not sure if that makes sence or not

all of the hidden light ideas really do look great and make me want to do that
im just torn with wether or not it fits the "story" of the car

    i'm defonitely considering it though

    thanks alot!

    Thanx Nash,
This is what I said "Gotta say This looks great! I'd dig the concealed lights". So I knew it was PS,but thank you for looking out for me,:D. Zach's talent is immense! I'm glad to know him.
I like what you did with his design/craftsmanship/ It makes for a good veiwing.

    Zach,
Don't worry about the periodness of them being concealed. Auto Union as well as the French coach builders did it in the 30's.
I feel that it looks racy for a track job.

This might be more than you want to spend, but think of the possibilities... Crime Scene has a bike headlight like an enlarged '36 Ford horn grille or the black car above.

Maybe you could get them to sell you just the grilles? He is on the Jockey Journal and offers a discount there. Might be worth a try.

i wonder if you could just make them?
make a sphere on the lathe....then use a ballmill to make the slots to appear as bars....then sand all the edges to look cast?

i'll have to look at the shape of the nose more to see if i have a flat enough spot to make them work
initially my plan was to hide lights behind grills like this
but was really wanting to keep it "american hot rod" more then anything so its a tough call wether or not they'll fit the bill

i know it would actually look better....but i just dont want to stray from my plan too much

    The car is fantastic.
I really like the hidden lights, too.

BUT, your idea of a homebuilt, not too perfect ride would lead to the removeable lights. The function of the car is to go fast, track or lakes. So form would lead to removeable lights and also any other road required accessories that don't lead to a faster car.

    Just my 2 cents.

I caught him playing Gran Tourismo on a PS3 (driveing a *gasp* Audi Station Wagon) at Hodrod Heidi's house last night... said he was being a gamer and that "this is as much fun as hotrods"... we may be loosing the boy... Hopefully Hershey will jumpstart and give him some GOW! hahahahaha

  29. Nash37's hidden lights are killer. Still looks period as Cyclone Kevin points out but retains the sleek organic look you achieved so beautifully with you track nose. Is there a big single headlight behind the grill? Because if there is that would be even cooler!!

  30. Damn - Looking great Zach. I dig the concealed lights. It is a very Euro touch (even early American aero cars).

I AM truly appalled though about this Gran Turismo report. :D Hopefully you will redeem yourself.

    Hope to see you soon.
