Ding ding ding! we have a winnah!
This was the Joe Ondo chevy in 1960. The story related to me by Joe's grandson, David was that Al came out west with brother Bobby in hopes of landing a ride and this was his first ride at Ascot.

I was going through my Fotki albums this morning looking for something entirely off topic, when I came across these two photos I had forgotten about:

I shot these at a vintage race in Coronado, CA in '03 or maybe '04. This car is drop dead gorgeous, and look how hard this guys is driving!

Sorry guys.. gonna slip some new stuff in on ya.

These are from my trip to Santa Maria Speedway in California last week. Enjoy.

Track was Beautiful. The first shot is from Highway 101.

The track was in a HUGE vally.. very neat! There was a big group of horses on that first hill side just past the highway.. Lucky horses, they get to watch FO FREE every week!

Above: The grand stands were built into a hill side.. I love when they do that. It makes so much sence..

Below: Check out this Maintnance/push truck..

    Car quality was excellent..

This was the best looking car (in my opinoin)

Lined up for qualifying, Made for a good picture with the mountains and such...

The only Woman driver's qualifying attempt didn't go so well. Thats her mark right in front of the wrecker. She stopped quick. Pretty hard hit.

We need more of these signs in public.. EVERYWHERE!!!

The fast car dash.. (check out the mud on the wall. pretty heavy place)

below: You can see where the right rear hit, then the front, then he rolled twice..

    BIG MUFFLERS!! Welcome to california.

Place was still pretty heavy right before the feature.

One thing the Mufflers did do, was... on the caution they poored out constant BIG Blue flames.. Neat.

as the race went on they kept moving the cusion up.. The leader finally jumped above it and checked out... (running the cusion on the left rear) Although close, he never made contact. This guy would be fast at Eldora.

Once again, sorry for the new stuff..

    Joshua Shaw.

If you have ever taken your girl to the track and realized how lucky you were to have her by your side, then check out "Go On By" first song on there myspace player, cool line about seeing her at the dirt track race..Hope you like it, let them know if you do....If you guys want this deleted let me know..(song should play as soon as the window open's)

Santa Maria, I remember it well. Took my first laps as a bonafide "race car driver" there in 1977. Always enjoyed the place , although in the early 80's I learned how unforgiving the concrete walls could be. Great place to watch a race. Like all tracks here in California, hope it stays around a while longer.
We used to pit inside. You can imagine how crowded it was with 40 plus cars.

Thinking about buying this. To new to be vintage? It is an original 1975 Edmunds with dash Tag. I want something a little older but not having much luck finding anything, I'm not sure if I want to do a ground up build either. Any thoughts?

It's a generational thing I guess. In 1975 I was deep into such cars so it almost seems like yesterday to me and hardly vintage. BUT, if you look at it this way; in 1975 a comparable car would have been, say, a post war Kurtis and certainly considered vintage. I would say, if the price is right, grab it up, if it's not universally considered vintage now, it wont be long until it is. (Now I'm feeling old :()

I don't have any history on the car yet, I am trying to get the dash tag number from the guy. The main hurdle is I am in Cincinnati and the car is in Seattle. Shipping may cost as much as the car itself.

Buy it.. THERE NEVER GONNA GET ANY CHEAPER THAN THEY ARE RIGHT NOW!!

So some grouchy old man might say its not vintage.. maybe not to him. Its all about "What you remember" I want an early 80's champ car so bad, and I'd give my left nut for one of those Kenny Rodgers Gambler cars.. CAUSE THATS WHAT I REMEMBER!

Now is the time to buy these old 70's, 80's and even 90's cars if you have a place to put them. Len Paxton showed me a HUGE building when I was at his place. The rafters were PACKED with sprint cars from the 70's 80's and 90's. AS FAR AS YOU COULD SEE!!! He gave nothing for these cars (most were just frames and body) THATS THE GUY HAS VISION!!

but, the bottom line is.. THERE NOT MAKING ANY MORE(originals) and THERE NEVER GONNA BE THIS CHEAP AGAIN!

  21. It is a pedigree car, not a copy. Pedigree matters. Fun is what it's all about, but at some point you also want pedigree.

I have definitely asked the right crowd for advice. I am getting some shipping quotes now, I can get the car for under $5000 with trailer and some spares. Price seems decent to me, but I'm not an expert on the prices on these things.

That champ car on the bay right now is awesome.

A little off topic, but this seems to be the place to ask this.
I have the opportunity to purchase a Kurtis Midget. The car will come with a couple of Ford V8-60 flatheads and assorted parts. The car is complete with all body panels intact. Can any of you tell me what this car may be worth, or where I can find out?

Not a expert either, but less than 5k (as pictured) certainly seems very reasonable to me. Is that a Autocraft motor?

Aint worth nothing, let me know where it's at and I'll haul that junk outta there for them, no charge.

Seriously, IF it's a real deal Kurtis, complete and restorable I could only guess 10k+ (?) very desirable! need pics!

It is a scat based VW. He says it is ready to run.

haroldd1963 Is the Kurtis restored or need restored?

It needs to be finished, all mechanicals are completed. Just needs paint and assembly.

I would agree with Rootie Kazoootie if it is a real Kurtis, If it is a copy, which most of them are and depending on how much finishing is required I would think $6,000 +. Back in Sept. I passed on a Kurtis copy that was complete in boxes and needed a lot of work and it sold for $3600. One of my dumbest moves ever. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm sure we are all thinking this but if you pass of course I would like to be put in line.

    BZNIEL-
I believe I found a listing for that car (maybe the same place you did?). Anyway, here's a couple more pics (less motor) Can't really tell for sure, but the trailer appears to be decent also.

even without any history that car is worth 5 grand easy, I see a few things that aren't standard Edmunds, the nerf bars etc but not a big deal. if you even think you want it then you need to get it.
