Norm Jones is one of the most likable and respected car guys in Austin - a town that is chock full of the really likable and the really respected. Truth be told, Norm is the guy that just about all of us aspire to be like when we grow up. He's "bee...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Sweet. That's some of the car porn I was telling you about. I haven't forgotten Ryan, I'm just super busy.
It really does not get any better than Norm Jones That man is top notch and I would bet a million dollars he has no enemies. I am also thankful that I can call him a friend for sure Not only is he a old hot rodder there is not many if any that I can name that has put more miles behind a 32 Roadster dash with three pedals than him Thanks so much Norm for knocking the dust off that video and getting it t o Ryan to publicise. Too COOL Ryan and Norm!!!!!!!!!
Norm is the coolest and one crazy mofo lol.Oh and Ryan what was that cry baby hillbilly music that was playin in the back ground lol...................
Brought tears to my eyes when I saw the Mackey & Veselka A Comp Coupe car. These guys were from my home town of Corpus Christi and gave us a lot of help when we first strared drag racing in 1957.
This is some kick ass stuff, thanks! Any chance there are other early NHRA footage, would love to see if I could be lucky enough to see my car at the Detroit nationals. Don
Norm is a gem, that's for sure! Thanks for sharing the film and thanks Ryan for making it happen. I never get sick of seeing the way it really was!
Great Video!, But, man I felt like I just smoked a pack of Malboros and drank some shitty beer in a bar full of missing teeth Hags!
You guys are crazy! "Concrete Cowboys" by the awesome Mr. Shooter Jennings?! I think it's perfect music to represent my hometown of Oklahoma City. (Although I'm sure I'm not biased or anything...)
Cool footage.....some really neat cars. But the tunes don't fit the bill.....drag racing is a violent sport and deserves rockin' tunes. Yeah, I know, everyone's a critic......
Thought you hit it right Ryan. The footage is terrific, we can visit the time and the event...thanks, a million memories.
The last part of the video is the best you actually posted more than one photo shot of the Buck and Bohls 444 roadster from Austin Tx. Not only was that car fast but could hold its own in a carshow. Thanks a bunch for those screen shots. http://hechointexas.blogspot.com/2007/10/old-texas-dragstrips_11.html
Wow! Thanks for the schoolin, great footage. Musta been late 57,I saw a 58 Chevy sedan delivery@4.41...
RE "late '57". I too saw a '58 Chev, and '58 Ford wagon. Back then the new cars were about all released in Sept of previous year, so this musta been shot in the Fall. Do we know a date?
I believe it was in Sept. of 1957. -could be wrong, I have other similar photos from that drag meet dated in Sept. of 57.
Very kool film, kinda puts you rite there on the ground at the time. Love them movin' pictures. As for the music, the steel guitar on the second track was beautiful.
I thought it was good. I never realized how much Shooter Jennings sounded like Blaze Foley or vice versa, You probably like him to, he's from Austin.
I like Rockabilly. I like some classic rock... I love early 80s punk. I love early Blues... But when you get right down to it, I'm a honky tonk guy. Shooter Jennings is kind of a throw back... And if he isn't careful I might stalk him. I love Merle. I love Willie. I love Waylon. I love Kris. I like dirty cowboy music. Kill me. I almost did this video with some old b-side Gene Vincent stuff, but I thought you fellas had heard enough of that kind of thing with these visuals. And, concrete cowboy just felt like Norm...
