The guy in the top photo looks like Johnny Cash !! I did get to see wall of death, when I was a kid in the late 1960's at Brother Gilberts Stadium in Malden, MA. I was only about seven or eight years old, but I still can remember it vividly. Everyone would be looking down in the bowl, then he would bring the bike to the top of bowl and every one jumping back.
I thought that looked like an Indian. Can anyone name the (approximate) year and model? I'm thinking '28-'31 Scout 101. Thanks, Kurt
They've had the "wall of death" at the Primer Nationals in Ventura the past few years. Best $5 Ive ever spent. Saw an ol biker chick ridin side saddle a couple years ago. Good ****!! The kids kept goin back all day.
I use to go every year to see them when I was younger but never with a cat along. They would have two or three at the same time. When you are 12 years old it was thrilling.
Seems I started a thread with the same photo last month (April). http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257235 And, please do give new guys a break - we are growing all the time by several new guys a day. Instead of chopping their heads off, try helping 'em. You used to be a FNG, too!
You read my mind! Ive seen a lot of cool **** on here and and not once did i give a **** where someone got a pic !
Just how do you go about deciding to use a lion with a stunt bike show? And having decided that something like a lion is the thing the act needs, do you set up auditions or what? I'm not saying I want to do this but it would probably benefit me to think in this fashion.
Does this mean that lions are traditional?!?!? I bet it's a matter of weeks before somebody with a flat black RPU starts showing up at events with a tattoo'd lion in a sidecar.
ahhhh, every now and then you see someone born into the wrong time. Think of how things would have been if, in addition to Big Daddy, Shirley, the snake, the zookeeper jungle jim and so on, that line up would have also included: FEARLESS EGBERT! -90% Jimmy
Back in the day, Gilmore Oil's ad mascot was a lion - hench the Gilmore Lion. Nutso air racer and stunt pilot Roscoe Turner was sponsored by them and flew in races and in appearances with "Gilmore the Lion" in the ****pit. And given the one-ups-manship of the carney life, why not add a lino to the act? Bring one on your next rod run and you'll be the talk of the countryside for years to come!
Yeah, you saw Samantha Morgan who just recently p***ed away. Published by Cyril Huze May 9th, 2008 in Editorial. Death Of Samantha Morgan Of The Wall Of Death. She was defying death to make a living, zooming defiantly around the Wall Of Death. She was a beautiful woman, always with a big smile, even when riding the Wall. She was the unchallenged Motordrome Queen, the only remaining woman trick rider out of a handful of daredevils still riding the 90-degree walls. She had been crushed many times by her Indian 101, burned doing the double firewall stunt. Samantha Morgan known also as Sam Morgan Storm p***ed away April 24th at the age of 53 in her West Palm Beach farm due to complications from the numerous back injuries and broken bones she had sustained in her long illustrious career. Sam was mentored by one of the original and most accomplished Drome riders ever, none other then the great Sonny Pelaquin, She was a runaway at age 11 and lived in several foster homes until she first met Sonny at the Dade County Youth Fair. After seeing him in his Wall Of Death Show she asked if girls could do this? At age 15, pretending she was 18, she became one of Sony Pelaquins crew members, then Sonny became her mentor and teached her the most dangerous tricks, like riding side saddle (upward split). She loved the taste of G force mixed with adrenaline. She was saying, When I am on the Wall I feel free and its the only time when all my pains and the pains of this world go away. She was inducted in 2006 in the Sturgis Hall Of Fame. She was a pioneer and will remain forever a role model for all motorcycling women. She will be missed by so many friends inside and outside the motorcycle industry. You understood French that you learned when immobilized 4 months in an hospital in France after an injury. So, I am telling you: Envoir, Sam. Yeah, Rhett is still at it, but I just saw him last month and he is looking pretty banged up. I mean real banged up.....I've had the privilege of being in the wall as he was riding a few years ago. The last thing I would call it is "lame" He is a f'n Gladiator when riding!!!! I hope Rhett starts taking care of himself to ride another day..........
That car's just AWESOME - I cant claim to understand anything about how it's put together, but I'd love to know more
Sounds like that should be the start of a joke. "So,this chick pulls up to a bar in a vintage sprintcar with a lion in a sidecar........"
and ziegfried and roy thought they were hard core..how the **** do you get the lion in the side car and train it to spin around a freaking wall many times a day?.....yeah shifty shifterton i am gonna get a lion to attend some shows with me,because of the traditonal aspect...wonder if they eat billet?
It takes no time at all to post a source, and it's a simple courtesy (if not legal matter) to do so. After all, somebody else made the effort to scan that photo and upload it, while all the FNG had to do was right-click. You're right, I used to be a FNG. I took my knocks back then, and I learned a lot about how to conduct myself properly a**** my peers through those knocks. dan
Look at Foul's profile, if you are not already familiar with him....then look at the source to which Foul credited the photograph...and the reason for his initial reaction will become a bit more clear, gentlemen. A touch harsh, perhaps, but understandable.
yeah maybe, but that is NOT where I saw it, it was on an entirely different car forum. Like I said, Google it, that picture is all over the web...and the real "source" is the photographer. I have no idea who originally posted the picture on the web, maybe you know??? perhaps "foul" was not the first to make the enormous effort of scanning it?? maybe it doesn't matter?? let us know if you figure it out foul, sounds like you have have the time for some exhaustive research pal....however if you actually took the photo or own a copyright on it then you have my humblest apology and I will promptly remove my post and/or give you proper tribute... Anyway, I'm gonna go work on my car in the meantime.
