Ok I've recently bought a 55 331 hemi. The valvecovers were smooth on top and had the bumps for adjustable rocker arms so I was slightly confused. I flipped the valvecover over and saw on the inside chrysler industrial. Well what someone had done was glue a piece of aluminum over the lettering and put filler on the plate to blend it all in. The valvecovers were nice and painted. Not anymore I've spent the last 3 hours cleaning all the adhesive, bondo and bead blasting all the paint from them. Hopefully in the morning I can paint them. I'm just glad that someone didn't weld a piece of sheetmetal on top! I guess the flip side to this would be if the fella that did that were to see them now he might think"What kind of jack*** would want the chrysler industrial showing?" O well to each thier own. Now I don't have to try and buy my valvecovers back from B***!!!

It's one of those Chicken vs Egg, sort of deals.

  5. Or you could slap some Ardun valve covers on their from the flathead conversion kit and tell Joe Nobody that its actually a flathead underneath. If he says "Really!?", you could slap him really hard and then tell him to go buy a bicycle. Otherwise, great find and best of luck in the future.:D

I guess the reason it bugs me is the industrial valve covers look *****in in a hot rod. Sorry but they just look so damn cool! I know different folks have different tastes and all but damn don't jack up perfectly good hemi valvecovers!!!! I won't even tell you guys about the chrome imperial valvecovers I just bought that someone sprayed primer on! Lets just say thank god they didn't do any prep work, **** I just told you about them!! They didn't even clean them. When I asked why they primed them He just said" Seemed like the thing to do".I don't think I'm going to have to call Billy Mays and get any of the fine products he peddles late at night to clean them, the primer just wipes right off and the chrome is as pretty as ever.

A guy shows up at a run with a Deuce 5W. The frame does not have the beauty lip at the bottom so I wonder what kind of frame it is that fits so well. The owner replies that the car must have been run over some stuff as the frame was all creased at the bottom. He had a hard time getting it back flat. True story

If I ever get a hemi, and that may not happen, the cost is crazy, but the one thing that would tip me over to that wonderful money pit would be 'Industrial ' valve covers ...
    they flat out rule.

  13. Like I've said before- "Because they CAN".

They either haven't learned, or refuse to accept, the simple Biblical principal that while all things are permissible, not all are beneficial.

I'm still trying to piece the suspension back together under my Mercury. The ***** that had it before me hacked it up so badly that the car rode solid with no suspension travel at all. The brackets that hold the bumpstops to the frame were all crushed flat. My favorite part though has to be the shaved antenna. They cut the top off and left the base and wire in the fender - brilliant. Of course it was also spray painted the mandatory black with red wheels. Too bad as the red paint under the black spray paint actually wasn't all that bad. *****s.

Okay, I have the best one......

This past winter I put my '56 t-bird up for sale. It had a fresh 312, buckskin tan car, some good options, solid frame and floors, needed body work bad, nice original interior. Asking $12,500, real good price. 312 car in a ultra rare color, certainly a stock restoration candidate. So this winner comes to look at it. Tells me about his '57 bird and how he wants to do another one. Says he wants to put in bucket seats, late model wheels and suspension, 4.6L automatic fuel injected...all the stupid **** that losers want. So he tells me about this complete 392 hemi he wants to sell. I tell him I will pay him good money for it long as it checks out good......so a few days before I am to go look at it, he calls me. He says the heads and crank decode as a 354...no sweat. Tells me it has a bad jug, no sweat, I can fix that. So then he tells me he couldn't get the crank out....TORCHED THE ROD CAPS OFF!!!
Not the bolts, the FRICKEN CAPS! And threw away the rods. Then took the heads apart.....THREW AWAY ALL THE SPRINGS, VALVES, ROCKER ARMS!!!! Not to mention he tossed all the head bolts and hardware. What a ****ing idiot!?!?!?!?! Probably a $1500 motor now nearly worthless. I p***ed on the motor, the $400 he wanted was a good deal yet, but I refuse to deal with *****s.

Why did the guy with the valve covers do what he did. Simple. They were his and he wanted smooth ones. His covers, his choice. No biggy. If we all wanted the same thing ....... well you know..

The hemi thing - now thats a different story...

  19. Because they are *****S thats why. I gave up a long time ago trying to make sense of the stuff others do that i think is stupid.:eek:OldWolf

I came into the shop this morning after running errands to find some photographer sitting on the front of the Anglia out front. Very curtly told him I didn't appreciate anyone sitting on the cars. I think I hurt the guys feelings. He took his model and left... WTF is wrong with people? If it's not your car no matter what shape it is in keep your fat *** off of it...

Surprise!!! When John Buterra built that smooth '32 3w with the moon roof he took a brand new set of Deuce Factory rails, a rosebud torch and beat the reveal out of the bottom of the rails to form a flat sided frame. To John it was just a "hichup" that detracted from the form he wanted to achieve.

During my 36 years in health care, I've had the opportunity to see an awful lot of unbelievable people and situations. To address those I coined 2 rather discriptive sayings. The first is "IDEOPATHIC *****", the second, and aimed primarily at nurses, is "TFI" (TOTAL F#%&*@G IDIOT. You would not believe the substandard level in healthcare that seems to be acceptable is this country. Yes, there are exceptional people in healthcare, but there are far more that are worse than marginal. Like the old joke: What do you call the guy that graduates dead last in his medical school cl***?....................DOCTOR, and there are a lot of them.

I know exactly how you feel. I just sold my older restoration, mostly stock '50 Ford convertible to a guy locally. He wants to make a nice reliable kustom by swapping a late model Lexus V8, add '51 Ford headlight rings, '53 Buick side trim, weld on late '70s Cadillac quarters and lights, install a tilt column and swap my cherry two tone interior for Buick Regal buckets. I'm sure it will be really "nice" when it's done.:( Did I mention it's a rust free Texas body with a strong running flathead......

Based on the pedals, tilt colum with a column shift automatic I can only imagine how "nice" the rest of his ride is:eek: I'm really hoping it's not an original '32.

The reason I dad that dumb stuff that I did is that it seemed like a good idea at the time.
