With all the talk of Bonneville lately, it reminded me of The Worlds Fastes Indian. Been a couple month since i seen it last....GOD WUT A GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!! Also looked real hard for time line errors... couldnt find any? Exept the transvestite, did they have them in the 60's?
Had trannies since the dawn of time... And there are plenty of "errors" in the movie if you parallel it against Munro's real-life timeline.
Check out the documentary they did with Burt, real footage. The movie was good but as always, they have to take a bit of "artistic license" to make it appeal to people other than HAMBers.
Read the book, "One Good Run" about Burt's life. From other discussions I have learned that even though it is much more to the truth than the movie, it has been polished a little too. John
I was on a cruse with my wife. We had dinner reservations and this came on the t.v. I had only seen it 2 times. She went to dinner without me. But now she is talking to me again.
saw again last weekend on our road trip to el mirage really set the tone for the day. i always get a little choked up when they let him race completly factual or not, at least they didn't make it cheesy like a fast and furious
Plenty of inconsistences, both historical and technically, but who cares? it's a movie, and a good one at that. Was at the WFs in 04 when they were filming. Wandered over and took some "behind the scene" pics. Standing next to the Challenger, on the same salt that M/T drove it was a real highlight for me.
Ultimate Gear-Head Movie. Gives me goose bumps watching it. Bonneville is only an 11 hour drive from here it turns out. Speed Week might happen for me this year. Definitely something I have to do very soon.
Anthony Hopkins is one of the best actors ever. I have seen him in many roles and he always pulls them off. His portrayal of Burt Munro as a genuinely nice guy for whom the others were willing to bend the rules should be a kind of "life lesson" for everyone.
Great movie indeed, got to enjoy it with the company of my pops who is a bike man himself. Also got to see the Indian in Vegas last year. I don't know if it was the exact one from the movie or story, but it was damn cool.
This was the first time I have ever seen a car movie where a car never flipped upside down and burst into flame for no apparent reason.
Timeline was more compressed than erroneous...they shoved stuff from a considerable time span into a single Bonneville, necessary since only HAMBers would have watched a 96 hour movie covering it all... Bishop and Tardel did an incredibobble job on gathering cars. Not all of those liners were around at once either, I think, but they should have been and that's art! Even the miscellaneous cars in the LA street scenes were great, looking much more real than the cars in many retro movies. Many viewers were probably not aware that there were cars back then that were not pink convertibles with continental kits and dual skirts, spotlights, and antennas!
It was a pretty good movie. I didn't need the trans or bangin the old lady. That took away from the movie IMO. I could have used a lot more time looking at the Red Head and other classic B'ville iron, like the Flying C, and less of the Hollywood license crap. But it was a good movie, just not a great one. Rolly Free as this great big John Goodman sized guy was a bit of a stretch too.
I don't care much for movies but that was one worth watching. Guys like that have always been my heros.
Any one know the story behind the damage on the nose of Challenger? It was a good movie, they just had to 'jazz' it up a little for the un washed masses thont dont get it like we do. Oh, and I cant say I thought much of his Kiwi accent............. Choice, eh? Bro.
Ive loaned my copy to several of my buddies and told them to try and get their wives or girlfriends to watch it with them. So far every non car person thats seen it has really liked it. Our last two trips to Bonneville we've had to take my Astro van. About two hours out from the salt we put the movie in the laptop and ballance it on the counsel with the sound coming out of the vans speakers so we can all see and listen at the same time...It really gets us hyped on the final leg of a 15 hour straight through drive.
It's a great move and one you need to own. My parents who are in the late 60's and not into cars/bikes at all even liked it.
I've shown it to people who don't even OWN a car who liked it...the lunatic heroic quest is a universal story.
This movie is the best,if anyone needs some inspiration to go out to the shed and work on their car, this movie does it. Good friends of my wife and I hail from Burt munro's home town ,apparently he was fond of the 'wimmin'
I met someone that knew his close friend , about 95% true. the rest was movie stuff. No matter, a wonderful feat!
best movie I have seen in a very long time. Anthony Hopkins did a great job of portraying Burt Munro as someone who could go through life by unconditionally accepting people for who they were - a lesson we could all benefit from.
