So this afternoon I put the body back on the car temporarily to figure out exactly what angle to mount the steering box and column in the car.

I like how it's turning out so far...although I did decide that the windshield posts are going to have to be raked back a little more.

Now im going to have to cut the front off my chassis, I wasnt that happy with it before but now seeing yours with the kick and the awesome Engine mount I know I can do better.

Ah yep... just about over it ;)

That headlight bar / nerf / shock mount is sooo tidy.

To all you TIG admirers, give thanks to ARGON (the MIG god) because without him most of us would be in the shit. The fabrication is spectacular but we can't all be experts.

Pretty much everything has been said about your fantastic craftsmanship. Could you comment on how you prep the metal, removing mill scale? Sandblasted or sanded , grinding what grits? Sooo clean Thanks, Craig S.

I usually start by bead blasting the parts in my cabinet, then it's a combination of 36 grit Roloc, Scotchbrite Roloc, hand filing with assorted files, DA with 80 grit, then hand sanding with 80 grit.

Most of the time I'll only do all that if the part is slated to be chromed. If not, a once over with the Rolocs is usually enough.

    Are they stainless?

Fresh ideas and design, well engineered and executed... nothing more to ask for really. Very nice work Brian.

    Thanks...

The exhaust is just mocked up right now. I had a couple of old Cal Custom chrome belled-tip extensions that I bought at a swap meet a few years ago, and I'm using them for mock-up.

I'm planning on duplicating them when I get around to doing the exhaust for real. Not totally sure how I'm going to do that yet though...

  20. You are fast becoming my favourite hot rod builder.

Wow!... So many nice details and did anyone notice the welding? ;)

Can't wait to see this one done. Will it get paint?

Thanks Brootal...I really appreciate it, even though I'm still a little fish (no pun intended :) ) in the big ocean that is hot rod building.

Yes, this one is slated for paint. It will most likely be the first real painted and upholstered car out of my shop. I've done several "finished" bikes, but I haven't got any other completely 'done' cars under my belt, and this will probably be the first. The '49 Chevy Fastback is still slated to be a finished 'done' car as well, but I'm not doing the paint or upholstery, so I don't know when it will be finished.

I still plan on painting my coupe some day as well, but it's one of those long term projects that has no immediate end in sight. The roadster will be 'done' pretty soon though.

That's funny Glen, I'm finally starting the '48 Buick Super project that's been in my shop for a while, and I keep looking at it and saying, "what would Glen do?" :)

  24. I dunno... you look pretty big, um... tall, in the photos I've seen of you. :)

So where did you learn to weld? Is it just from building hot rods or are you a trained welder? Nice welds really are like art to look at.
