I have an 833 4 speed out of a 69 cuda 340. Im looking to buy a 360 out of a 76 dodge truck. The trans should bolt up to the motor and work as long as I use a 10.5" clutch right?

  2. Its not the diameter of the clutch its the spline that the tranny cares about.

The 360 and the 340 are the same basic casting. The bellhousing from thr 340 should bolt up to the 360. There may be some difference in the crank flange, I'm not a big small block MOPAR fan so maybe someone can chime in on that aspect. So you may have to use a 360 specific flywheel and pressure plate then just make sure your clutch plate has the correct spline and you gold.

I think you will have to rebalance the 340 flywheel to 360 specs. If memory serves me right early 340's were internally balanced and the 360 is externally balanced. Good luck, Mike.

Shouldn't be a problem, but check on moparts they would know. It would have 23 splines, hemis had 18, and if its aluminum its a 3 speed with OD, but still wouldn't matter.

360 engines DO use a different flywheel than the other LA series small blocks. They are easy enough to find in 70s Dodge trucks, though.

I would just have to get a 360 flywheel then? I know there are 2 different tooth count/sizes I would need the smaller 130 tooth wheel then im assuming

  7. That depends on which starter you're useing.

Check out the sleeve for the throwout bearing. I have run into some 23 spline boxes that use the Hemi bearing. Should be bolt in, use the 360 flywheel. The 360 is externally balanced, as some of the later 340's. The 360 uses a cast crank, the earlier 340's had a forged crank, bolt patterns are the same. Starters should be all the same, old part # 3250 for most rebuilders.

So ya have a trans and are getting a 360.....do ya have a bellhousing?
Later bells have a larger pilot hole (even bigger than the 18 spline trans) than the 23 spline '69 trans, but no big deal, as you can swap input bearing retainers or even get just a sleeve to locate the trans to the bell. Brewer's has got 'em. All they do is A-833's.
Just find a '70's SB Dodge car/truck (car's had an alum OD box, bell is same) and get the bell, arm, etc....and be sure to get an external balance flywheel for a 360....

i have the bellhousing throw out bearing with fork and all the shift linkage from the cuda (and of course the trans)
The truck bellhousing would need the larger flywheel right? and the one I have for the 340 would use the 130 tooth? it would make sense

If ya got all the stuff from the 'Cuda, all ya really need then is an external balance flywheel for the 360 and a pilot bearing.....and just a good clutch.

  12. There is a possability that the crankshaft is not finish reemed for a pilot bearing on the 360. The easy fix is to use a new style pilot bearing found on magnum motors.

That would be the 130 tooth right? and the cuda starter would work?
oh and it would be the 10.5" clutch?

I will be sure to keep that in mind thanks

Looks right to me. Ifit were me I would hit up the yards and find a used 1. Get it in writing that it was surfaceable though. I have seen some that were so thin that the disc springs would hit the F/W bolts.
