  1. Karen Stouffer went to St Gen's too. Karen Lindstrand back then.
She has stayed very cool and genuine despite being a Pro Stock Bike
Celebrity. My dad says one night he and his buddy Dick Jones were cruising their 56 gasser looking for action. They park in the field at
Glenoaks and Peoria. He sai back in the 60's they raced from the other end towards Peoria and used the signal light to start the race.
Anyways he said Larry Dixon Sr. is there with his blown gas 55 chevy
(the original, original green one) uncorked and he' "sawing off'' mopars one at a time. While dad and Jones are hunkered down in the
bushes watching the action, several cops with lights off come onto
Peoria headed towards the "starting line" while Dixon and his next
victim are warming the hides. The cars start the race and before long the cops figure out that they don't know they're coming so they turn on their lights. Dad say's Dixon never lifter forcing the cops to go single file in one lane as Dixon blows by em. The cops didn't know wether to shit or go blind! Dad says you could hear Dixon disappearing off into San Fernando for several minutes (Whaa Whaaa
    Whaaaaaa).

and show ya the '56 (Yesterdays Child), but after you walked by in the show car area behind the stands I never saw you again.

Back in the day, some of us had scanners to monitor when LAPD was coming. On the way home, Bottle Bob spots a Metro Unit following him down Sherman Way at the 405. He turns onto the S/B ramp and nails it. You could heard the Metro Unit guys saying, "Holy cow, he's leaving us like we're going backwards!".

The next day, I saw Bob and asked what happened. He said the LAPD helicopter lit him up and almost landed on him to stop him. He had to bail out of jail.

Simi Valley had street racing on Sundays. Me and Bottle Bob decided to check it out. We're in his 68' Vette, cruising down the 118 frwy. About a mile from the off ramp, Bob nails it to see how the motors running. (Keep in mind, it's a roadster with no roll bar or seatbelts).

As the off ramp approaches, Bob shuts her down and turns towards the ramp. We musta been doing over a 100 mph when the Vette jerks to the right. Bob straightens her out and we pass the ramp. By the following ramp, we've slowed to about 30 so Bob eases the Vette off the frwy. At the bottom of the ramp, he makes a left turn that uses 4 lanes to complete. We pull into a shopping mall and stop. I jump out and check underneath the front end. The castle nut is missing off the right tie rod and the tie rod is hanging loose. OMG!!!

Across the street was a all night gas station where we found a regular nut that would work.

  5. One Ray Wustrak aka "Ray Ray" is taken his black primer 415 sb
Nova with 2 plate units to Manchester. The car had 3.70's and a
9x30 Stocker slick so you could drive it anywhere. He's in the fast lane on the 405 fwy south just about to the round Holiday Inn and
were in the next lane over following in the "support car". A city cop car comes cruising up behind Ray and flashes his beams for Ray to move over to the next lane cause he's only going 55 or 60mph. Well
Ray thinks its just some jackass so he mats it and hits both units simultaneously which causes the Nova to boogey like a raped ape while its hazing the rear tires like an old fueler and he just "box cars" the cop a bunch. We're thinking oh crap he's done. The cop takes off
after him "Boooaagh!'", get over in the other lane, catches up to Ray
and turns his side spot light on. We can see his head jerking all over the place as he cuses Ray out and waving arm and finger. Then he turns off the side spot changes lanes all the way over and gets off the next off ramp. Guess he was ending his watch or jones'n for some dougnuts. Ray was as suprised as us. It was funny as hell watching him spray rubber dust all over that cops windshield only to not get busted for it.

  6. When I saw you, you were slammed with people to talk to. So, I figured we'd talk another time. You were so busy, I'm surprised you saw me.

I worked at a dealership called Guy Moothart Chysler Plymouth, at the corner of Long Beach Blvd. and Rosecrans, from 1968/1971 and Big Willie and his buddies would come in for "warranty work" on their Mopars. We used to take dealer domos to the Lions Drag Strip and race on Weds. nites and Saturdays. That was the Good Ole Days.

Well last nights meet up was good. Small but was good. About 20 total. Two seperate tables. Some nice rides in the lot from the usual group that meets there on the 1st & 3rd Weds of each month. Then about 10 of theold group showed. So it was good. Bringin up all the old scenes, and trying to recollect what everyone was talkin about. Gary Guerrero showed, don't think he heard from this blog. I think he just shows there regularily.
I think we need to get cars again guys.

Gary and I have been friends for quite a few years and he heard about it from me. He was going to bring his old white Camaro, but had a prior engagement. I think next time we should all wear pictures of the car we used to take to the races. Funny, can't remember a name, but could always put a face with a car. Nice to meet you, Scott and "Cyclone" Kevin. If you all want to do it again, pick a day. Talked some guys who just couldn't make it last night, but would like to meet up.

That don't mean it doesn't happen! I worked for a used car dealer last year and anytime we'd get a reasonably quick car into inventory one of the techs I worked with would need to take a D tag and the car home overnight on Friday night for an "extended road test" to track down the source of a noise or something. We had a lot of fun at the local 1/8 mile with a Magnum R/T.

Great thread - needs more pics!

If Tark is still out there, - Is that the Tarkus Mustang that appeared in Mustang magazine in about 1980? There were a few black & white snaps of it.
Always liked the look of that thing, had a tough stance. Still got the mag had since high school, like to see some pix of it in colour. (We could never get our old Ford Anglias and Zephyrs looking that cool down here in NZ, hahaha).

PS. Pretty sure was looking at that black Vega in an old HR mag a few posts back just the other night, trippy.
