Well, I guess thats what's become of our Hobby. Ridiculous. But, A checkbook Guy will buy it. And HE CAN HAVE IT! Funny, from the pics, It dosen't look "Excellent" to me. Needs massaging for sure. Just my 2cnt.

  3. Randy,

If I were you, at these prices, I think I'd run a big chain through the front few vents & around the motor mounts.

These SOBs will be disappearing off cars in motel parking lots before long.

Could be a record. Supply and demand. How bad someone wants something will forever dictate the end price.
A year ago, I saw one guy pay $5,000 for a 1967 GT500 Shelby steering wheel. My Dad paid $4700 for the whole car when it was new...

It's springtime and we all wanna accelerate progress on our not-finished rides. Some have more means to do that than others........either that or it's a scam. I bought a 4 speed once on ebay, it was 20 miles up the road. Went to look at the trans with a handful of cash and brought it home, 3 days left in the auction. Seller had his bro-in-law enter a stupid bid to push out any other buyers. I'm sure somewhere another M22 seller got all excited as he saw this one "sell" for $1900

Rootlieb has said they would tool up to replicate the stock '32 25 louver hood sides as their current panels are not accurate. I call every couple of months to check on the status but no delivery date as of yet. I've also talked to Kenny at Brookville, he has considered duplicating the side panels but is very busy with the 3W project. With the popularity of the original style panels someone could do alright with a correct reproduction. The FOGGER

  8. And....

If there is this much demand for 25 vent hoods, why doesn't Rootleib offer an exact reproduction? Why even offer a 25 vent hood if it isn't correct?

I'm betting that a lot of Joe Average "checkbook" rodders who want a '32 have never paid attention to the number of vents in a Deuce hood. As coveted as these have become though, they are going to.

Thanks for the info Fogger. Wonder what the hood sides will sell for?

  11. I was watching those too. The last one I saw on Ebay went for $3000+ and this one really blows me away......but it makes me smile too!! I found these at an auction in Wagner, SD for $6.00!!!! They aren't perfect but I'd rather be lucky than good any day! It had been run over and the tops were flattened, torn and ruined but the sides survived. They have some pitting from laying on the ground all those years, but I cleaned them and straightened them up and they look pretty good for the price. I'm planning on using them on my next roadster project. I might need a .357, an alarm system and a pit bull chained to it when I get it done and driving to keep them though.

Five years ago when I first talked to Rootlieb about an accurate copy of the 25 louver panels they told me that they couldn't open the louvers far enough because the sheet metal would tear at the top and bottom of the louver. They were not using the correct alloy. Kenny at Brookville says that they have the correct sheetmetal alloy to eliminate that problem. With the amount of money that the original panels are selling for it sounds like Rootlieb just doesn't want to retool. I'll be talking to Kenny at to LA Roadster show in June and see if he is considering this as a product to add to their line. If anyone can create a duplicate it's Brookville. The FOGGER

Silly. Prices will probably never stop climbing, and people who are preoccupied with this aspect of things will probably never stop bringing it up or complaining about it. (depending on which side you are sitting on)

The thing I think is strange is that for something to be so rare and desired, you still see a lot of them for sale.

The economy is effecting 'some of us' with buying parts but god damn.....some people are out of control...Must be nice!

  15. I think it's the fascination that those of us who been chasing Deuce stuff for awhile is how this old junk that no one wanted that badly 20-30 years ago is now in the stratosphere in price. I just think its very interesting to watch.

  16. I know a fellow that paid a few hundred dollars for a 25 vent hood quite a few years ago and most of the guys that knew him thought he was nuts!!!

    Who's laughing now?

I am in that group also. This has actually gotten way out of hand $$$ wise. I really feel sorry for the new guys just getting in the sport and seeing themselves priced out of the market. Like these 32 Ford arm rests ...

$722 and NOT made the reserve ... I would have to use repros before I paid that.

    Yeah ... I know that guy ... :)
Everyone said he was NUTS ... and then he bought a few more sets @ 5 hundred.

Sort of like a fellow I know with way too many JBL speakers and Crown amps. :D

you can always find some example of extra ordinary behavior to hold up for shock value

personally I don't see the point.

unless you are telling me I should contact this man to sell my stuff to.
    then it makes sense.

A pointless Post on a Pointless Thread...

Im not in the market for a $6000 Hood, so somebody else spending THEIR Money on one doesnt affect me.

    Besides...

Thats a lot of Hammering to turn them into a set of those nice Smoothy Hoods...

I for one don't see this as a pointless post. I'm planning to build a '32 roadster for myself, and I had no idea how out of hand hood prices were getting. Now I know that the next time I see a NOS 25 louver hood for $400 ( I did a year ago at a swap meet), I should probably grab it.

Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't make it a pointless post or pointless thread. I suppose your getting ready to close the thread now?

A little research would tell you what they go for.

Wanting to beat somebody up because of their spendiing Habits might not be Piontless.

You are right... Its probably a lot worse.

I hated paying $250 for my Pontiac hood. Certianly though, one should be able to spend their own money as they see fit.

Ebay is bad for the local shopper. Few years ago i bought a gear box for one of my stangs hit $100 plus shipping week later one went out at $10 no one bid should have waited but you never know when and where it will come up . Funny if something harder to get comes up and enough people are looking the prices soar .

  28. I sold Deuce Roadster one of my two 25 louver hood a few years ago at the going price at that time,,,not for the money but to help a friend score a needed part,,

I knew it wasn't gonna be on E-bay the next week but was the part to make his 3 window the car he wanted and didn't have.

    These things have gone insane,,,

And I honestly don't see this as a pointless thread,,,,I think it helps anyone that is looking for deuce part or not,,,you might run up on something that you might be able to make a few bucks on or buy a running car in the want ads,,,,I've seen several drivers for that kinda cash. HRP

Maybe it`s just me, but I prefer the 20 louvre sides better....proportions are better to me...the 25`s seem to be too much louvre and not enough panel..jmo.

$6k to some people is just pocket change really...it just seems that genuine 32`s are on the list of toys too have these days in certain circles.
