Lexan is a brand name polycarbonate. You need polycarbonate with a hard coating. And it won't be happy bending around the front corners.

If the angle of the pillars hasn't changed, why can't you cut the top off the windscreen? It will be wide enough.

    BTW. It looks pretty stupid.

I knew a kid in college that chopped a 63, it looked horrible, like a truck ran it over. so when I saw the listing for this I was horrifide to see it. But to my surprise, you pulled it off. looks great....he was an idiot.

im always impressed to see someone chop a top (other than simple stuff like my 24 dodge, all pillars are straight,i would hope a trained chimp could do that.).the metalwork looks pretty darned ok.however,i have to agree with many on this board.you are obviously a dedicated "car guy" and the mods ive performed on my junk havent always worked out like i wanted.but since you posted not once but twice on a worldwide forum,i gotta tell ya-that car is ruined and looks like hell.take the guy that offered you a roof up on it!sorry dude, when you post asking for opinions, youre gonna get 'em.

Now all you got to do is this, and I think its not to late. Get the top raised back up, paint it red and put on some 8 in.Chevy rallye wheels, with flat centers of course, and try to find a numbers matching driveline for it! And when you start going to shows , get a crybaby doll for the fun of it! I'm just kidding.:D

  8. i think the car is a little bit over choped , less is more sometimes . But i also had to learn that the hard way, i chopped my typ 3 a lil toooo much .-(

So I wonder if Richard Zoccchi would get just as much crap if he posted a pic of his pontiac?

i think the other guy managed the glass a little better doesnt look as squashed. we can beat this dead impala (horse) all day long. and your buddy posting for ya that his work is top notch show us the metal work and why is it in black primer if it is top notch and for some reason. i dont think it will be getting that fade type paint job after seeing the lancer caps and red wheels. plastic windshield not top notch i would bee seen caught dead with one in my pontiac.

al sc poser dont come on like a know it all . its not the chopping of the car its the style in which it was done .

    continue.....

  12. I like it. Looks very cool & different. "No I don't know the guy". Yes...I've seen a ton of chopped cars where the whole project fell apart once the builder realized how hard putting glass in the car would be after the chop. I'm just now getting windows in the doors of my chopped A. "Yes....it does have some Lexan, but I'm converting."

Post like this probly scare a lot of people away from posting pic's, asking questions for fear of being rubbed into the ground.

Sad part, is sometimes people do jack stuff up & when they build up the courage to ask questions, people make them feel like a heal.

Then the HAMB has less build pics.

Now guys....feel free to pic apart the spelling I used in this pm to make me feel stupid.

Did anyone even offer a remidy of putting glass in this Impala or is the guy still at a standstill on the build.

Maybe you can use a factory windshield and just hack out the bottom of the windshield channel to allow the bottom of the windshield to fall down lower behind the dash....then refab the lower channel to fit the bottom of the glass.

Good luck & keep your chin up. Carl Hagan

  14. i admire the effort but i still think its ugly. and the coment about r.z.'s pontiac it looks to me that it has a bout 2" less of a chop and not quite 4" more wind sheild

i honestly don't know how i feel about the car. i think it's chopped a bit too much, but i don't hate on the idea of the chop all together. the over all look of the car is not what i would call horrible.

if anyone has any material to rag on this kid about... it's his spelling and grammar. Jesus dude, maybe a little less fab work and a few more days in your remedial English class.

LOL.... Buddies.... thats funny, never talked to this guy in my life... If you'd like to think we are thats fine.

Why paint bare metal with primer? great question!

Don't give a sh*t what you would be caught dead in.

I don't know much of anything unlike like the rest of you who seem to know how other people should build their project, I know what I like and what I don't. I don't like the "style" of this car but I didn't think that was in question here. I'm sure he doesn't give a f*ck what I think of his "style"

Nope, but he should pay me for it. I only take cash!:D

    Don't get all bent.

That looked like a nice car to start with , thats a nice grille i would imagine the car was nice to begin with baced on how it looks other then the chop. That said i see no poor workmenship but in black primer its tough , i like the hubcaps better. Now i think its been stated make the chop fit the glass not the other way around. Lexan is going to suck for a windshield [ well depending on your neighbor hood it could be a plus]. If you post here like it or not your going to hear it. That year Impala is a good looking car to start with . For me that chop looks wayyy to much and i would never hack up a nice car [ if it was nice to start with ]

On a side note the people here are pretty hard on newbies in general add to that your nick SC poser and your bound to catch some. Dont ask me how i know about the newbie thing 8).

Now when it comes to my list of things to do to my Impala , chopping it has never made the list.

can't decide about the chop, i think it might be too much, but there is a certain "presence" about the car.
Flop's right, flat black and lexan just say "shortcut" to me, get some decent paint on it and go looking for a real windscreen for it.
also, lose the lancer caps, look all wrong on a '60's car.

On the outside chance you happen to be Dr. Chucky's attorney or doctor, I really feel for him...

  25. The '62 Impala sport coupe was proportioned well from the factory. Any amount of cutting tends to mess it all up; especially when done to this degree. These cars aren't '50 Mercurys; they can't handle that much chop and still look good. Pancakes are meant to be eaten, not driven.

If you guys will calm down a bit there isn't anything wrong with this car that can't be fixed by putting the top off of another "rusted halfway up the doors" '62 Impala and forgetting anyone ever thought about doing what's been done to this car. You would have to be careful to not leave any reminders of the carnage that's been visited on this innocent victim and treat it with respect for the remainder of its life. Tall order I know, but a caring person who loves this style of car could pull it off. Otherwise with the current price of scrap the crusher would put it out of it's misery and hopefully "out of sight, out of mind"
