Many years on the HAMB and I still don't know better than to ask for opinions... :D

Wheels are a big thing for me. I think because I was always so limited on choices for the 41 due to a wide subframe and empty pocket book.

SO I have the Greenbrier van that I am really excited about. Actually so excited about it that even I am wondering just what it is about the thing.

Not in a huge hurry on acquiring wheels but I would like to get decided on a path to take so I can focus and watch for a deal..

When I first got the hankering for the van it was tripped off by an A100 by my house. I immediately thought of putting aluminum 5 slots on it and slamming it. That van didn't pan out. The Corvair had two whipped Appliance five spokes that are vaguely similar to Cragars. I kinda dug that look also. Out of need I painted some S10 wheels white and put some tires on them thinking maybe that was the way. Maybe spiders. Maybe beauty rings. Maybe not.

SO I come to you all for guidance. I definitely want it to look late 60's and somewhat custom...

Anyone who could photoshop some idears on the beast would sure be my friend!

    Thanks! RASHY

Oh yeah, I'm sticking with 14's, probably 7" wide...

okay, i voted for five spokes. i was thinking hurst type wheels but honestly looking at the picture, i'd stick with painted steels. It looks good man.

Cragar ss.... but then again, that's my default answer for rims:D

Really it depends on the direction you go in with the paint, if any.... Wheels to me are one of the last things I worry about. Thats just me though....

I've been wondering the same thing. I picked this one up a few months ago. Someone had put S10 wheels on it before I got it. I am thinking painted with baby moons or chrome reverse.

I had several 'Vairs, not vans, back in the day, and thought they looked best with chrome steel ("chrome reverse") rims with baby moons. "Period correct" for late '60's/early '70's.

  10. Ron, Nothing screams 60's class like torque thrust americans.

There are so many 60's wheels in chevy pattern, hit some swaps.

    No daiseys or astros, though.

American as cast 5 spokes with polished rim or early chevy rally wheels with caps. American 5 spokes are what I've hade on every one of my 'vair's

I dare you...16X11 ETIII's on the rear with 15X4 ETIII gassers on the front. Leave the nose down stance.

There was a Greenbriar like yours in Lakeland Florida a few years ago--it had 5-spoke Americans with gray centers, and looked awesome. It looked like someone's old shop truck, if I remember right. It was pleasantly worn.
They completely "made" the van, and after seeing one with them, I can't think anything else would look as good.

I'm a huge fan of chrome wheels with spider caps ( timeless ) and I think they would look good on your Greenbriar, but heres a picture of another idea I really like that I think would also look good on your van.
Reverse wheels and mini trim rings from Rally America ( Wheel Kid ) Cal-Custom spider caps, Custom paint by Jeff Meyers ( fink'd ). Love this look. The first set I seen was on McPhails 56 these are on my 64 chevy wagon. Gary

Well, hell, lets see what we can do here.

    First, how 'bout cragers:

Or spiders and rings (sounds like an order at Sonic) on red wheels:

Hmmm.... No? Well how about cast Ansen sprints?

Closer? Need a little more shine on your dime? Polished slots (ala halibrand):

Maybe you need something a little more exotic! 1943 Soviet T-34 Tank wheels (you can find these all over ebay for a song! ;) )

Of course, you could always take the easy way out and follow the trend. Don't be trippin' when you could be staight up pimpin', yo!

Cragar SS, big and littles with tall skinnys and as wide & tall out back as it'll physically fit. It's got the old school street/strip stance, embrace it and the wheelstanding heritage of old flat front trucks.

BTW, the chrome 5 spokes HAVE to be cragar SSs. No phonies.

Oddly enough, if you could find em, I think it might even get away with KEYSTONE CLASSICS:eek:

is it gonna get painted or will it stay like it is? if it's staying, get some crusty old raders. they're usually not worth the $ to have 'em redone, so you oughta be able to scrounge up a set that'll match the van's 'character'...

    Anything but Cragars...please!
I can see polished slots, or as cast 5-spokes with a polished or machined rim.
Spiders and rings would be cool, but the wheels need to be a dark color.
    OR...how about some Turbine/Vectors:cool:
