blktopbandit, Brian, has been one of my long standing HAMB buds. We always have a good time together at shows and partying in parking lots :D So when he mentioned he was having a Memorial Day show at his house I didn’t think twice about what my plans would be for the holiday weekend. When we talked about it at the Autorama in March I set a goal for my ’53 Chevy to be roadworthy by then to take to the BBQ. Well, after a bunch of work and some local test drives I decided ‘Black Beauty’ was ready.

Saturday morning was an absolutely gorgeous day in Ohio. The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing , a perfect day for travel. After I packed the car with everything I would need ‘just in case’ plus my camping supplies I was on the road. I stopped to pick up Whiskeyrunner (Matt) who volunteered to go along again this weekend since he had so much fun last week at the Showdown.

Packing was a lot easier this weekend. LOTS more room than in the ’32! Loaded down and ready to go…
    [IMG]

First stop, gas. If I had a dollar for every person who made a gas related comment about my three carbs over the weekend I would have enough money to buy gas the rest of the summer! The car did great on gas, $50 down and $50 home with some left over. Not too shabby for about 220 miles each way.

The going rate in Ohio for regular gas, $3.99 a gallon…
    [IMG]

A full tank helps my stance :D
    [IMG]

Per usual I chose to take 2 lane roads pretty much the whole way there—62 to 36 to 55. We passed thru a lot of small towns that weren’t much more than a dot on the map. By the time we got to Urbana I was ready for a stretch and I heard about a candy store I needed to check out. Anyone that knows me knows I love my candy!

There is a place called Carmazzi’s right on the square in Urbana. The same family has run the teeny tiny store since 1893!
Black Beauty in front of Carmazzi’s
    [IMG]

They have all types candy plus lots of other stuff too! All in two itsy-bitsy aisles!
Lucky kids to live close! Or should I say lucky dentist?:D
    [IMG]

For more on Carmazzi’s visit there website:

After purchasing a few choice items we were on the road again. We were almost to Brian’s!

In the meantime, in Detroit, Saturday morning dawned bright and beautiful. The most perfect topless cruzn weather one could want. Buckle, his wife and Aaron51Chevy showed up at my place right on time. Of course they insisted on checking out Rusty Olds before we took off.

Before hitting the highway south we decided to head to breakfast. Anyone who been to my place knows about this place. A full breakfast including, eggs, meat, potatoes, toast, etc for less then $4.00 on the weekends. Thanks to Buckle for treating, it was very sweet of you….and thanks to Aaron for selling me his trailer for my go-cart over breakfast. Will come in handy for B’ville.

We hit the road heading south on our way to Brian AKA: BlkTopBandit’s place for his annual Hot Rod Get Together.

    Buckle in his Nova
    [IMG]

Aaron51Chevy in his Wagon (wonder if he’s going to change his screen name now that he doesn’t have his ‘51 any longer?)

Greg AKA: Buckle’s lovey wife was following in her minivan as she was continuing south alittle past Dayton to her sister-in-law’s to visit.

Since Aaron didn’t have a fuel gauge we stopped for fuel about half way down
    [IMG]

This was the wagon first major road trip and it not give Aaron one bit of trouble. It had plenty of room for their two mini bikes but not enough for my go-cart which had to stay at home cuz I had no way of getting it there.

Arriving at Brian’s you’re up by the house which is on a hill. He’s got 11 acres and at the tree line in the background is a little river and he’s got more property on the other side.

Once at Brian’s we parked along the tree line and Megan and Matt arrived about 5 minutes after we did after about the same distance of a drive as us. Didn’t take long for folks to stop by and say “hi”. Megan showing HulaZombie her Chevy
    [IMG]

The guys unloaded their mini bikes and Brian rode his over
    [IMG]

    Buckle
    [IMG]

I must add at this point that Buckle’s “Slingshot” has no brakes and the throttle is jockey style.

The guys decide to ride for a bit. I was sure hoping that Buckle would wipe out and give me something really funny to send into that funniest video show.

Megan and I decide to go for a walk, check out the cars and talk to people about the Hot Rod Cinematic and the Rock-n-Race events.

There was a striper there laying lines
    [IMG]

And Brian’s wife cool wagon with Scotty trailer. They really need to attend the Jalopy Showdown with this setup next year.

HulaZombie had is bitchen wagon there as well
    [IMG]

..and he had a booth set up selling his DaddyKatz.com stuff.

Bill AKA: HulaZombie, wonderful seeing you again bud and having the opportunity to hang out and chat. Thanks so much for the t-shirt bud. I’ll wear it with pride
    [IMG]

Since we were all staying overnight, Aaron brought a cook stove and we grilled lunch
    [IMG]

It was tough getting Buckle off the Slingshot even for food
    [IMG]

If folks didn’t bring their own food, Brian had that covered with hamburgers, dogs, steak on a stick, corn, etc. No one went hungry.

Folks mingling, great hanging out with you guys!

Vance’s Van’s….please make sure you thank your wife for the yummy cookies.

Megan fires up her Chevy and takes folks for a beer run
    [IMG]

Any guesses on who’s pocket this is?

A few of us sitting around up on the hill chatting away under the large shade tree
    [IMG]

Caught a glimpse of RandyD’s cuff
    [IMG]

Megan, Randy, Shoe, Me, Brian, and Brian’s lovely wife
    [IMG]

We all got a kick outta Shoe’s pink camera. He bought it especially to take to Stugis for Bike Week. His mother’s so proud I’m sure.:D
    [IMG]

While we were up on the hill we watched BlkTopBandit and SinglePaul,NoDudes pass out “trophies. They were a hoot

Once back at Big Olds ran into Hollywood423. Nice to finally meet you.

Checked out a few more cars
    [IMG]

and then when I turned around I caught Aaron molesting my trophy
    [IMG]

I had to rescue it from his clutches. I feel honored to have received this one. This was the first time a steering wheel actually LEFT Brian’s house.

Checked out the bikes on our way up the hill to watch some burnouts
    [IMG]

    I spliced them all together.

Swung back over and chatted with Bill and his wife Rosie
    [IMG]

Hard to imagine with Squiggy around that this bottle of Jack was still full.

Even late in the day folks still arriving
    [IMG]

And Buckle still riding his “SlingShot”

But not to worry, Stephen saved the day….and the trophy he striped
    [IMG]

Spoons stopped to say bye. Wonderful seeing you again sweetie. See ya at the Hot Rod Cinematic next month.

So now we’re all kinda sitting around deciding what were doing for dinner and Aaron is firing up the grill once again
    [IMG]

Squiggy and his long lost son stop by to serenade us over dinner.

After dinner we decide to build a campfire and everyone helped steel wood from Brian’s house. Seems like the smallest carried the most
    [IMG]

Took five people and a blow up pump to get the sucker started
    [IMG]

But once it took it was great

Alittle bit of drinking going on…..most stayed the night either in tents or in the house
    [IMG]

    Alittle flashlight fun
    [IMG]

    (photo taken out upon request):D

    I haven’t a clue as to what Aaron’s doing…
    [IMG]

….but I do know what Buckle’s up to
    [IMG]

Folks started slowing making their way to their tents and once everything wound down I headed inside to use the inside bathroom and found Shoe and his floormate getting snuggled in for the evening.

By this time I knew Roby and AJ were upstairs snoozing but I didn’t have the heart to tiptoe up there and snap a photo. He wasn’t feeling good and if he was asleep I didn’t want to wake him.:D

The next morning was absolutely perfect. Most slept in and Matt cooked breakfast…..pancakes to order….where’s Megan’s “pancake shirt”?

    Aaron wasn’t moving too quickly
    [IMG]

We started taking down the tents and packing up……
    [IMG]

Made sure the trophy wasn’t going to harm my Fat Lucky interior
    [IMG]

But the fun wasn’t done yet. Everyone wanted to play on the mini bikes some more
    [IMG]

After riding we took a few shots of Big Olds and Black Beauty together. This is their first “event” together but certainly won’t be their last.

Wasn’t someone on the HAMB just talking about knitted beer hats?

Once back outside the hill was just too tempting not to. Watching Buckle try to stand afterwards was just hilarious. I learned from watching him and just laid there afterwards till my head cleared. Complete headrush for sure.

Once everyone was back down the hill we help push the project back in the corner of the property then bid our farwells and so-longs
    [IMG]

Thanks so much to Brian and his lovely wife for throwing such a great holiday weekend Hot Rod Get-Together. Everyone had a BLAST and I’m so looking forward to next years already. To be honest, I was kinda thinking about not posting anything cuz the size and intimacy of the event is perfect and I hate to see it get huge in the years to come.

Pulling up the hill and outta his driveway

Fueled up and waiting just a couple of minutes for Buckles lovely wife Kristy to meet up with us for the cruz back home

I’d also like to thank Buckle and Aaron for the fun time on the road. You two are always a pleasure to do a road trip with and I look forward to many more years of hanging out with the “Usual Suspects”.

    Shout out to JERRY! ;):D

For those who have already PM'd me wondering, YES, the Chevy made it there and back trouble free. I went right to the local cruise night from Brian's for Black Beauty's debut. It was well received and most people had no idea it was the same car I had there one time at the end of last season!

Stay tuned for coverage from the second annual Rust Revival aka 'Breederfest' :D

Man, I'm soooo bummed to have missed this for the second straight year. GREAT PEOPLE and close by! I've got a good buddy that was expected to pass this weekend so we all hung close by but he's still hangin tough for the moment. Looks like everything was great...good weather, good food, good cars, Shoe's supple lips, Brian's basement....

    Etc...

Brian, I'm sorry I wasn't there man. Thanks for the invite. I WILL make it next year.

HUGE thanks to Brian for the hospitality and to Denise for the ride in Big Olds. A much awaited event that was. Wonderful to meet Megan, too. Your car is spot on, girl! Good meeting the other attendees whose names escape me cuz of my chronic CRS. Already looking forward to next years event. We should probably leave the oil burnouts alone, ya think?

    Denise,

Well, that answers two of the questions I asked. What a cool gathering last weekend was and I'm sure RR will be just as cool in it's own way.
