    Any longbox truck.

When I see that, makes me say WTF no matter what it is. Pretty rare to pull off a post 55 truck chop with a shortbox, but NEVER with a longbox.

my 54 chevy truck is chopped way more than the average. i have had people tell me that they hate these trucks chopped and i would show them pics and they would always end up saying it does look pretty good. i know there are a lot of people that dont like the look of a radically chopped car. thats cool. to each there own. i like stuff that says that its chopped. i also like stuff that is stock. it all depends on the crastsmanship. i know that there is going to be a lot of fixing needed to be worked out on my 54 now that i have more experiance. but like i said, to each there own.

There's a chopped 65 Mustang coupe in this area that you have to see to believe! It's got a big huffer sticking up through the hood too! Wrong, wrong, wrong!

I would normally agree on the 40 Ford thing, but one of my old rides (since sold) was done right...Rod & Custom Top Ten in 2001. I never liked chopped 40 coupes until this one...

I agree with those on this thread who emphasize QUALITY....its like getting married....try to get one that gets through the test of time!!!!

    Damn I am prophetic!!!!

The only prewar car I absolutley hate to see chopped is the 39-40 Lincoln Zephyr, the look great just the way they are. I would have added a 40 Ford coupe to the list, but the one above looks really good.

Don't mutilate anything that's not cheap. I did both a '57 Ranchero and a '57 Chevy sedan delivery when they were cheap cars (only 2 inches on the Chevy-just enough to make people wonder). I wouldn't have the guts to buy one at today's prices and chop it up.

Then I dont think you've seen a 49-51 Ford Coupe nicely chopped then, I totally disagree with that and have good reason to.

    35 & 36 5w Fords
    50's Pick-ups
    Shoebox Coupes
    Panels(except Ragdolls!)
    39 to 48 Ford Sedans
    55-57 Chevys

And even though I love them chopped...I would find it hard to chop a nice 32 3w!

  20. Anything can be chopped and done right, too bad there is probably 3 or 4 people in the world that can do it. Its all about proportion, get that right and bobs your uncle!

Anyway, dont all 32 3 windows come out of the fibreglass mould chopped?

Anybody should be able to chop whatever they want with out getting "flamed" on the HAMB. It's their car, and I don't think anyone has the right to claim rights of preservation on it. Whether or not it "looks" cool is going to be debated. But we all change, and our ideas of what looks cool change. So to criticize someone harshly because they are not up to our stage of design or esthetics, may be over looking our own learning process, or stifling those that have already surpassed us.

  25. John Wayne had a Pontiac station wagon with the roof raised a few inches for more headroom, about a '68 model. Otherwise it was pretty much stock, green, woodgrain, all the accessories you could get on one. I'm not sure if it's just because he was that tall, or because he wanted to drive with a cowboy hat on, but afterwards?

It looked like it could use to be chopped.

Some things I think shouldn't be chopped:

    Refrigerators

    Tool Boxes

    Mobile Homes

    any Chimney

Bathtubs - the ones you bathe in, not the Nash - also swimming pools, aboveground or below -

I'd also suggest not chopping a Yugo, but mostly because it's hard to weld the cardboard back together again. I actually saw one of those today in drivable shape - who knew one would last 20 years?

Okay, been drinkin and didn't read the whole thread, but...

Take a look at Jimmy Vaughan's Riviera. They took 2 inches out of the top, but you couldn't tell. After staring at it for a while, and then looking at another mid 60's Rivi, the stock top is just too tall.

35 and 36 3-window Fords look funny chopped, until you see one with about 2.5 inches taken out, and then they simply look right.

On the other hand, I love a Model A coupe, or 32-34 3-window whacked 5 or 6 inches. It gives them a mean, take-no-prisoners look that can't be beat.

Everyone say's nothing newer that 57! Please tell that to John D'agnostino. He keeps making them look so good.

I agree with my 57JoeFoMopar (Thanks again for putting a mopar motor in a Ford) it's only bad chops that people get work up over. Rightfully so. No one wants to see a car ruined. That being said I think it speak volumes to the ability of the car builder when someone can take a car normally not chopped and make it look 100% better with a nice subtle chop or any mod for example.

For example. I hate mustangs, always have always will. I was looking through a portfolio at Ethers. I saw a picture of 65-ish shitstang. It stopped me in my tracks and I couldn't figure out why. I ask what was done. I don't remember the exct numbers but it was sectioned by something like 1.5 inches and maybe a minor chop too. My point being is that it all depends on the builder.
