Look for chevygirlrox post on detailing her motor ( am I a rockstar now, was the title ) She did a killer job and it might give you some ideas. Fenton exhast manifolds are a must. I like mine with straight pipes. And you can never go wrong with a multi carb intake, and finned vavle cover. The biggist thing is to build it the way you want it, don't let someone talk you into something you don't like.

See how cool this web site is women building hotrods, and at least two of them with chevy sixes.

You might try the inliners website

Make sure it is in fact a 235 as intake manifolds for 216 s are a bit different. Also is it a full pressure oiler ? the old babbit motors are not the best to hot rod.

Speedway sells dual/triple carb intakes, langdon's sells kits to use multiple carter/webers, and Patrick's sells good stuff as well. You may look into uprading brakes, too. Buffalo enterprises has trans adapters, but the first thing you need to do is determine whether you have a stock 216 or a later 235 swapped in. The parts you get depend on that.

I just picked up a Rare Nicson triple side draft intake off Xderelict. He seems to be very knowledgeable in early inline intakes and speed equipment. Hopefully he will chime in and give you a bit of insight. Way to go on the '51!!!!

Just tried it and it works for me. You might also look into Inliners International. They have a nice news letter with some good ads and a web site with all kinds of info.

John Evans speaks the truth. Your '51 does not have a full pressure oiling system. Your first purchase for speed equipment should probably be the tried & true engine swap. A '55 & newer 235 or 261 will have more power and provide full pressure.

If you do the math, a $500-$700 engine swap would give you more power and cost about the same as a 2 or 3 pot intake w/carbs & linkage, split manifolds, etc.

    Good foundation first, then modify.

Good luck and keep us posted.

and if you wanna stick w/ a straight 6 , i've learned (the expensive way) that 59 and younger bolt up to 350 turbos, the 58 and older need adaptors,, and the offer still stands lolita ;]

62 was the last year of Stovebolts.

  26. At the risk of making an OT post, if you moved away from the pre-'63 motors...250 and 292 (ok, even the 230's and 194's) inlines are lotsa fun, too!

The 250's and 292's will not bolt directly up to the motor mounts in her '51 though. It all depends on how much work you are willing to do to accomplish your goal.

As mentioned earlier, first off you need to figure out what you've got there. A 51 Chevy is going to have a 216 babbitt-bearing engine (unless someone swapped a 235 in there later). And building a 216 to run is kinda like training an asthmatic to run. You would definitely want to swap in a later chevy or GMC inline if you're looking for "six appeal". :D

    Here's what you really want:
