Its been in the family since new. Been painted once and has 68000 miles or so.

This will be the "father / son project" for my 14 year old :D

he is stoked. He's telling me what he wants to do to it. I just want to get it mechanicly safe and then let em have at it. Last time it was registered was 1975!

I plan on keeping it all original... just going through the brakes and fuel system, replacing the hoses and go.

  7. Well, If you keep it original it will be neither a hotrod or custom. The point of this board. So I guess that will be the last we see of that great old 40 Ford on this board won't it? Good luck with your restoration and I hope your son enjoys it.

Way to shit on someones parade. No wonder no one shares anything around here anymore.

I for one think it looks killer the way it sits. Enjoy the time spent with your son, he will remember it forever!

What a killjoy you are...the reason this board is around is to chat about hot rods and traditional stuff- which being pre 62, this car will still fall into that category.
I think its great he is buidling it himself with his kid :).

Bet since your car is sooooooo traditional (the 'required' black primer/satin and retro stuff) you even dress like you were back in the 50's in that Hot rod pipe dream (nice side burns and pompador . lol)
I agree - no wonder people dont post as much here anymore- Lighten up for chrissakes.[/SIZE]

I like it. The car is good as is. Why change it for the sake of change? Get it safe and roadworthy and enjoy.

this thread makes this old gearhead smile.when we used to find these old jewels;first job was to get the old girl ready for the road ,then drive it as it was.if and when it needed exhaust;it got duels.then ,when it needed tires it got wide whites.proably fender skirts came next.I`m sure ,the first time your son hears a flatmotor with duels,he will be hooked too.let us not forget our roots.welcome,i for one would like to follow your build.

  18. hey man i know i'm just a FNG but lets be greatful the kids gonna be wrenchin on something cool. we live in an age where most kids would rather have a ipod compatible honda with a coffee can exhaust tip.in my book anything with a flathead V8 is kool!good luck, have fun with it, and screw the critics.

Kool car, your son should think himself lucky. Can't wait until I can work on cars with my boy. If you get it roadworthy then let your son take over, with a little Parental and HAMB guidence the car might still end up a bitch'n rod or custom.

Just pop on an old-timey chrome-dome style air cleaner and..... Whalla! in minutes time you made it into an acceptable genuine "traditional" Hot Rod '40. :D

I wanted a 40 ford since the 40 issue of street rodder came out in 1980.
I bought an NOS pair of tail lights at a swap meet when I was 11
I was 12 when I got my 1st 40 coupe(really rough). My Dad and I spent another year chasing down leads on nicer 40's to build. I ended up buying a coupe that came with a 4 door parts car. We scavenged a few parts off the 4 door, then sent it down the road with the 1st coupe. The sad part was, the 4 door was really nice, only I wanted a coupe at the time. Now with 2 small kids, I wonder if I'd have been better off with the sedan!?:)
It was a GREAT way for my Dad and I to spend time together. Plus it was a great way for me to stay out of trouble, as I started working when I was 14 so I could buy parts! Just be carefull you don't push him too hard to work on it, or build it the way YOU want or he may quickly loose interest. Just give him guidance and help with the build, and make it a FUN experience, and maybe he'll still have the car and enjoy it as much 25 years later like I do

40 ford's are my favorite and to start your son out with a classic is outstanding. Hope it brings great pleasure to both of you. Keeping the flathead is great.

Boo! You suck! Don't listen to me, Im just jealous. That's a nice score. I'm sure you and you're son will have a blast working on it and driving it. It's nice to know that the father son tradition is still alive.
